I don't think the "heavy" spenders are mad at all. This isn't about them, they were getting those characters at those star levels anyhow. This has always been about the medium tier like Boomer (or myself for that matter). We get the passes, we get the lowest unlock offer for a new character, and while that certainly is likely in the neighborhood of $200/month, and while that certainly can be seen as a heavy spend, in the context of real whaling, it's barely a drop in the ocean. Now, of course I recognize and appreciate that from a F2P's perspective, that is heavy spender behaviour - and in practice as I mentioned, there's a pretty big jump up in cost between unlocking characters at the lowest offer, vs. getting them to 5, 6 or 7 star right off the hop. So in the spending universe and world view, it's low tier. Us low tier spenders matters as little as F2P in the grand scheme of things from a power curve perspective, even if we are spending more than a thousand dollars a year on this game. Sure, we get to build characters a bit faster than F2P, but not to the extreme the real spenders can. Now Scopely of course has always been about the squeeze, it's a business after all. However, we do seem to fail to recognize that the model Scopely has right now, is actually beneficial for us lower tier spenders, and F2P for that matter. Why? Because 2* characters can still hold great value and be useful. If you look at other similar type games, it's very often 7* or bust. The prime example is the one from Boomers past; SWGOH, and the now cancelled LOTR:HoME. So I understand the conflict, and I actually felt it too. On one hand I do not give one iota about this increase in cost, I've done more in other games - on the other hand, for the first time that I recall in this game's history, Scopely went past the $99 top offer cost for a single offer. That to me holds significance, and gave me pause because it crosses that mental barrier most of us have. $99 is fine, $101 is too expensive. On top of it, the $125 offer is actually a trap as Boomer mentioned in this video, which makes it even worse. The second aspect is the vault. A lot of the content creators discussions that I've watched has been around the cost, and how that is bad - however, the real problem for F2P and lower tiered spenders is the vault aspect. If this was treated like GCC, Nova or Black Cat, we would have shrugged our shoulders and not worried about it. But instead Scopely applied the stick instead of a carrot. That to me also holds significance. So to sum it up, black is the new black, and the squeeze is still on. Scopely is just moving down in the spender stack.

I agree. Everyone just needs to play at their own pace I spent close to $1000 last year for Apoc, haven’t spent since. And I still compete. Just need a good alliance that participates in the events because they’ve made it vital if you’re F2P.

I was/am too a strike/battle pass buyer. But started F2P since the last ones that are out now. I still have the urge to buy them, I'm so tempted... it actually shined a light that I am some kind of addicted. I still resist the urge, because I know I'm in a peccary economical situation and 50$ per month is a lot for me right now. (That's almost the full value of a video game, per month, wasted on a mobile games pixels.) I keep thinking, if Scopely decides to close the game tomorrow, I'd be so pissed. I guess the only true solution would be for me to fully quit it, but I enjoy the game enven as F2P now... just gotta resist.

@shadinz it made me realize the same thing. I have this urge to purchase the battle passes. I've been through addiction before with opiates. The best option is to quit the game completely, but I will try this f2p and see if I still enjoy playing the game.

He bought the offer because he can make money off it. I would assume if you could buy something and make money off it you would to. a business expense may not be a good answer but it is accurate showing he will make money and a guy did send him money to buy the pack.

The look on his face, and long rambling justification video on why he bought it.... Tells a story. Gamer usually supports the player base, but in this instance a stance against buying would have sent a strong message. Instead he caved to the FOMO pressure and bought, giving credence the Scopley will continue such predatory tactics over not.

Completely agree. And it's been ongoing for a few years now, I think it kicked into gear during covid. This is their end game, and they're going to squeeze as much money out of the players as they can. The prices have been increasing silly amounts for at least 2 years, and yes I know there's a crisis in the world and whatnot. But people don't have that sort of money to spend on a game, not the average player anyway. They are going to kill this game before long, even big spenders to stop once there's less and less players involved. Everyone will just move onto another game, and the spenders will follow.
