Tremendous chat, chaps. Almost made me forget the rugby, JG ;-) The 62MAS plagerised the earlier (late '50s) Blancpain Bathyscaphe. That's the archetype of the skin-diver form factor to me. I've not seen any other '50s divers that share that (Squale?) case shape, which as you say was popularised in the '60s most famously by Seiko - to the extent that B'pain has had to abandon its distinctive design for the slightly awkward modern Bathy. I'm a huge fan of the GO - it's design (and movement) influenced by a GUB one from '69. The green: pure DDR!

I actually quite enjoyed the rugby over the weekend :-) Outstanding performance from France, the back row in particular, and Dupont literally walking on water. England is in a real spot of bother, but France was there too a few years ago, and given their resources, they should be able to turn it around. But first the RFU needs a complete overhaul, the way they administer the game is completely unfit for purpose (old boys' club, etc.).

I think the zodiacs from the 50s/60s also share a similar style to that skin diver look. The GO is really beautiful, along with the Polaris it offers a haute horology take on the dive watch whilst still feeling like a dive watch. The BB58 would be my less adventurous choice for the next dive watch I think though. Thanks for the video- have missed you guys 👍🏼

True, the Sea Wolf is one of the first divers, coming out in 1953, the same year as the Submariner and the Fifty Fathoms. I forgot to mention it. But it has a more traditional case design, and it's not until the 60's you find Zodiac's with (more or less, not exactly) the same type of case as the Aquastar. Also, I really like the JLC Polaris line. My concern is that JLC's cases seem to be made of a metal that scratches very easily.

@@johnnyguitar6697 yeah it’s what appealed to me with Tudor and Rolex, the more scratched and worn they look, the better. I’m not sure I’d be so laid back about scratches on dressier diver but as you say, they’re made to be worn!

This would be my grail watch if it didn't have those big numbers on the dial. They are too big and there are too many of them. I know it is a reissue of the original 1960s watch. They should've used four smaller numbers like Omega Heritage is using and maybe even completely omit the date window or make a dial that looks similar to my Seiko SPB053. Seiko SPB053 (with blue dial and blue bezel) or Seiko SPB051 (with black dial and black bezel) are slightly bigger watches but they look very similar to Sea Q. There are no numbers on the dial and the hour hand comes with an arrow instead of the minute hand. I love everything else about that watch.

Another great video, Uptick and Johnny. Thx. Question for both of you, what are your thoughts on the Cermit/Starbucks? Would you take the Cermit over the no date Submariner if given the opportunity?

I would definitely take the No Date Submariner over the Starbucks any day of the week, as I find this particular hue of green a bit garish, and would tire of it pretty quickly. The No Date is a really classic design that will stand the test of time like e.g. an Omega Speedmaster.

It’s only compressor cases that were more vulnerable in shallow waters but true compressor cases are not made anymore

Un bracelet Artem, que j'aime beaucoup. Belle qualite, un look et une construction tres similaires aux bracelets qu'on peut trouver sur les Blancpain Fifty Fathoms / Bathyscaphe. Tres adapte aux pays tropicaux.

I will have to disagree with you on the see through case back - GO makes wondeful looking movements. To hide them from view is a shame even if that comes with a smidge of extra 'height' in the case of the base SeaQ its not thich enough to matter if you added half a millimeter. But if they had see through case backs, I would wager the SeaQ's would be much more marketable - for myself, it is the one thing that is holding me back from getting one for the wife. They do it for the red gold variant so maybe with luck this works its way down to the other models.

You can’t excuse Tudor and Omega charging premium prices but shortcutting on quality testing a new movement. Such a thing would NEVER NEVER happen from Grand Seiko.

Except that it does. There are a number of people reporting issues with the new 9SA5 hi-beat movement, that was issued on the "White Birch", which is running out of specs (too fast, generally). If those people want to get it regulated under the GS warranty, they have to be sent back to Japan for 3-6 months. I am a big fan of GS, have owned my first watch from them in 2008, a long time before the watch community at large recognized their quality. But to think they never get anything wrong is simply not true. They get the same teething issues on new movements as the rest of the industry.

@@johnnyguitar6697unfortunately I have heard of similar issues on that 9SA5 movement (running faster like +30s / day) as well but thankfully my SLGH013 runs perfectly within +2s or less per day since I got it late last year.
