Inspired by a song that combines bittersweet lyrics with uplifting electronic melodies, the video for Above & Beyond's 'Sun & Moon' focuses on the pain and release of a couple's break-up; showing that relationships live on forever in the memory.
With the video drawing its aesthetic cues from the legendary Northern Soul era, the lead male is seen re-living the relationship and the final breakdown through a series of emotive flash back scenes and some lonesome, drink and music fuelled longing.
Just as 'Sun & Moon' finds its release through its emphatic, riff-based breakdown, the lead recognises the song and finds his own peace of mind the only way he knows - by dancing. Through a set of skilfully twisted and visually arresting dance moves straight out of the Northern soul era - where sad love songs like 'Sun & Moon' fuelled a generation of late night dancers lost in lyrics. In doing so, he finds his freedom... in the moment.

This song was mine and my highschool sweetheart's. It was our song. We broke up 5 years ago. I had another 3 year relationship and many meaningless monthly relationships but when I hear this song it brings me to tears. I remember how much fun we had those times not a worry in the world. He doesnt dance because he wants to, but because he is in a whirlwind of frustration and emotions. When you are that stressed and emotional, your body goes into a state of impulsive behavior as your mind just goes blank. Its beautiful because for that one moment you are careless and carefree. After five yrs of being alone, I fell madly in love with a much younger lady. She was everything I ever wished for, and my two kids loved her. After a while she told me that the feeling isn't mutual. This song is my whole relationship. My boyfriend and I are having a very slow breakup. We both love each other. But he still carries the shadow of his ex. This song gave me the courage to ask out my wife. I see all the breakup stories, but the whole point of "if you don't play, you'll never win" is the key point of this song. Years back I broke up with someone, had a few dates with other girls, and then met my wife. She was dating someone else but was not serious. I liked her, and finally felt "what the hell, if I don't play, I won't win." 8 years later we're still together.

10 years ago I had discovered this song through a friend who was going through a rough break up. At that time I used to play piano, and he asked me if I could play it for him. I accepted his request, and when I played it for him he broke down. I had completely forgotten about this until today, when the song was reintroduced to me from a different close friend. Apparently I had introduced it to her, and as soon as I heard the first bar, all the memories started flooding back into me about that first friend that showed me this song. 🥲 truly an amazing song!
