This week we are traveling in Samarkand. Known for its many mosques and mausoleums, the city lies on the Silk Road, the ancient trade route that connected China to the Mediterranean Sea. About half a million people live here. By the way, Samarkand (Самарқанд) means something like stone city. It is also located on a plateau at an altitude of 720 meters. We look at Bibi Khanum Mosque, Den Registan, Chor-Chinor in Urgut, the Historical Old Town and much more.
