Immediately takes one back to a frightening time in America where so many people were trying to do good and sacrificed everything for their cause

I shook Bobby’s hand many years ago when he was running for the office of president. He was a great leader. He would have been a great president. My generation lost the two brothers and Martin. Our young lives were shattered by their deaths. One death would have been enough to do it but after all three we lost our innocence and vulnerability. We had been working so hard for justice and civil rights. I cry whenever I hear any of these men speak. It’s something we cannot forget.

I think it was written by Dick Holler - in just ten minutes! He'd just heard that Bobby Kennedy was shot. Dick was in the middle of recording the third album for the 'Royal Guardsmen' group in New York. He stopoed recording and wrote it when he got back to Florida. (Yes, I've just found a written interview with Dick, online.) He wanted to find the right person to sing the song and eventually found Dion. I think your version is very beautiful and you should bring it out as a single and, as suggested, without the background. Brings back all those memories of the Sixties. Love and best wishes, Jane Hook, England.

Yes it's a shame that Dion always insinuates that he wrote this great song. He should acknowledge and thank Dick Holler.

Karl, the interview was in The Tennessean newspaper, entitled, 'Story Behind the Song: 'Abraham, Martin and John', from 11 September 2020. I hope you did a remix! Jane Hook, England.

Many try to cover this incredible classic piece, but to little avail. Your rendition Karl, along with Holly, Polly, Jeff, Rob & your percussionist is the best runner up to Dion's original from 1968. May I humbly ask, do you have just the basic vocal & multi-instrumental version, minus the classic speeches & dialog, somewhere here on your channel? BolsaChicaRadio

The speeches were part of the original mix. I might have the file to do a remix. I’d have to find it on an external hard drive … 🤔

OK, thank you, just inquiring. All three of those bits of infamous speeches stand great on their own; an important part of American history, but your song too, towers with it's own incredible, soft & melodic chords & melody. It would be an hour to have that as a good stand-alone. BolsaChicaRadio

A pretty tall order of an iconic song to cover. Props for trying, but respectfully, you're no Dion Dimucci.
