I don’t ever comment on things but I must for this. I have struggled with intense depression; even diagnosed with “treatment resistant” depression. I have been on so many medications and have been going to counseling for years. I recently shucked it all. I knew deep down my depression was not from some mysterious chemical imbalance but a deep hatred for myself that came from the potential I know I have that I feel I have wasted away. I quit meds, I quit counseling, I am chasing myself. I am judged by my own courts now. I am now on the hard road of real self actualization. Now my depression seems, though still there, somehow separate; weakening. I quit relying on a counselor to fix me, praying for God to make it easier, or waiting on medicine to cure me. While all those things are good I am sure now that I am my own cure. AOL has been helping me along toward this new flashpoint. Thank you for the videos. It indeed is never too late.

Self actualisation is being actually what one could be potentially. It brings more frequent peak experiences and makes one more resistant to social comparison hence anxiety. However, self actualisation is hard because most tend to choose the path of easy pleasure. When we succumbed to this tendency, guilt arises. However, this guilt needs not be seen as just a sign of mental weakness, but a call from our inner desire to self actualisation.

I'd say it was when I accidentally stumbled across Maslow and his work some 4 years ago that I began on my "journey." Comparing myself now to myself then shows me how far I've come, and kinda brings me a kind of peace. Good luck, mates.

Wow. This was a very insightful explanation of why self actualisation is important. I agree with this theory because it is the experience in my own life. I’m not happy unless I know I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing and improving my gifts and talents. When I answer that tearing and that cry to be better, I find myself overwhelmed sometimes but then peace comes and assured me to keep going.

I REALLY needed to hear this type of information during my years as a pre-teen and teenager. It wasn't until college that I discovered these psychology concepts by roaming the aisles of the campus library, randomly looking at books. My curriculum didn't include intro to psych. The internet and videos such as this have fine tuned my understanding. Thank you Academy of Ideas.

"People achieve things without having achieved these. " It can be used as a standard of metric I suppose. I came across such comments in here. I think the point of this hierarchy is to achieve success in your life in a healthy way. People achieve without even having sanity. Simple eg: I have amazing cgpa in my undergrad but I still feel anxiety and depression and lack of self esteem. I compensate for the lack of reliable friendship with over achieving so that maybe someone may become my friend if they start to admire me. At the end of it, i want as stress free and peaceful life as possible to me through me...
