NOTIFICATION SQUAD: 2 videos in 1 weeks! What a madman. It's great to finally be back in Hiroshima for the first time in 6 years since the original chaotic Journey Across Japan. This time with an extra day to spare it was awesome to explore the castle, stay on Miyajima island and absolutely fail at cooking an Okonomiyaki pancake along the way. While the weather was certainly against us and I was disappointed at first, it ultimately ended up giving Miyajima a mysterious, ethereal misty mountain vibe that looked pretty cool. Hope to return again and explore more of Japan's inland sea later this year!

Chris, your storytelling, videography, narration, and topic choices keep (unbelievably) improving with each passing episode. Having lived in Hiroshima city for nearly a decade I would like to share a few things: 1) the city has been through a recent modernization of public spaces (parks, stadiums, train station) so please check out the newest parks and maybe pick up a snack to enjoy by one of the many the rivers. 2 )if given the chance go to Saijo outside of Hiroshima city make sure to explore all of the sake breweries in the town and taste some of the best sake in the country. 3) go to kinkoinari shrine Okumiya to get a good climb in and see the city from an amazing high point. Hiroshima is an amazing place, not because it has history or the latest attractions, but it’s a city that prides itself on being open and friendly. While also giving you the opportunity to never be too far from the stunning surrounding nature.

Hiroshima was my last stop on a 10-day Japan trip right as the pandemic started. After having such a great time there, walking through the memorial and sitting beside the dome just left me in a profound state of sadness. The idea that something could wipe out such a wonderful thing so quickly. I felt such a deep appreciation for everything I had seen along the way as I realized how fragile it all really is. The entire 36 hours I spent there were memorable down to the minute.

I was fortunate enough to visit the Peace Memorial Park and I witnessed an elderly gentleman approaching to pay his respects and he started playing a musical instrument. I had the chance to visit Hiroshima last year and combine it with several surrounding areas such as Onomichi, the Seto Inland Sea and doing the Shimanami Kaido. I liked it so much that I returned this year and visited it again for a few days during my second Japan trip in May. There's something about this area, not only Hiroshima, that is special and unique. Beside the beautiful landscape it has a special charme, the people seem to be more relaxed while in my experience also speaking english better than the rest of the country. It was and is my favourite spot in Japan and, maybe with the exception of the outskirts /suburbs of Kyoto, came closest to the "magical" picture I had in my head of this country before coming to Japan for the first time. I highly recommend to visit it.

I’m happy to see these views again. I visited Hiroshima and Miyajima last September 2023. It had been my childhood dream to see where the atomic bomb landed, and I shed tears at the Peace Park. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to check the view deck because I was heading to Miyajima. When I arrived there at sundown, it was almost dark, but I managed to take good photos and videos since most of the tourists had already left. I also visited Nagasaki and Fukuoka. I love Japan, and this was my third visit. Thanks for featuring it.

Nice itinerary! And you hit the nail on the head when you said Hiroshima is inspiring. I dare anyone to stand at the foot of the dome, look around at the lovely modern city, and not be moved at how life perseveres. A few other places I'd suggest hitting while there: climb Mt. Misen on Miyajima Island to get one of the "top three" views in Japan; it really is lovely. Mizutaki Temple is a gorgeous hillside temple on the west side of the city. And if you have more room for okonomiyaki, head to Okonomiyaki-mura for a wealth of choices. And lastly, Shukkeien Garden, which is a short walk from the station. Also, for train enthusiasts, the trams are a fun ride.

Orizuru Tower is a must see. The views from up there was so beautiful. We stayed at the Iroha hotel on Miyajima. It was the most spectacular hotel we've ever stayed at. I love Hiroshima so much. It's probably my favorite city in Japan!

Ah man this has me feeling so nostalgic. I visited Hiroshima back in 2019. I was genuinely surprised how pleasant and scenic the city was. Also got the best Okonomiyaki I've ever had.

I have only watched the first 5mins so far but must say, this is Broadcast Television standard production in every respect 👌 I feel as though I am watching an episode of Joanna Lumley travelling the world on ABC. Camera, script, presenting, VO, the works. Excellent content. Great work team 😊

I found the Peace Park museum one of if not the most confronting place I have ever visited. But the people of Hiroshima are some of the friendliest nicest people in Japan, and like you I adore Hiroshima okonomiyaki.

I remember when I finally visited Hiroshima in spring of 2019, my breath was completely taken away by how lush and green the city was. I put the bomb dome in Google Maps, ready to make a beeline to all of the memorials that I didn't begin to imagine how the city's landscaping would look like. Hiroshima is a testament to how life can recover in a land so heavily traumatized by war--- honestly other cities in Japan don't compare, it is truly a gem. I hope to return one day to explore more of it.

Visited Japan for the very first time in October 2023, and while I only spent 1 whole day in Hiroshima, it left a huge impression on me. While visiting the Peace Memorial Park I witnessed several groups of school children being told the story of Sadako Sasaki, and leaving several origami figures in the memorial (I also got an origami crane as a gift from some of the children!). It was sad and beautiful at the same time. The museum was brutal, and I will never forget it for as long as I live. Just a gigantic message on what humanity at it's worst can achieve. Also visited Miyajima Island and had the chance to eat some delicious Okonomiyaki! Hopefully I can explore more of the city in a future trip. Thanks for this amazing video!

I watched your original Hiroshima video 4 years ago, when traveling to Japan felt unthinkable not just because it was unaffordable but because the pandemic made even leaving my house feel unthinkable. It was a dark time for me like it was for everyone and your videos helped me get through it. This January, I visited Japan for the first time and before I spent a couple days in Hiroshima I made sure to watch that original video again. Your videos have brought and continue to bring a lot of joy to a lot of people Chris, thank you

Absolutely love Hiroshima - this was a fantastic video. Wish I had this last month when I was out there! If you have the chance check out Fukuyama, a city in the prefecture of Hiroshima. Really nice there and there's a local karaoke bar (ニュージルバ) that I can 1000% recommend. Hiroshima ken might be one of my favourite places in Japan. Great choices Chris as always!

Hiroshima was my favorite city when I visited it! The people were very friendly. The okonomiyaki was 11/10. Plus Miyajima is the most scenic place I’ve ever visited so far in my life!

Having visited Hiroshima city and the surrounding area in November last year, I have to say you have truly managed to strike the perfect balance between the historic horrors and the beauty of the area. Be it interview partners, or fun bits focusing on local specialties, it all felt very much on point! I have to honestly say that the people in Hiroshima were the friendliest we encountered during our entire month traveling the country. From café owners stopping at nothing to share their recommendations for things to see, and connecting us with other locals (all the while using an old school translation device), to strangers running up to us to give us directions and hand-made paper cranes out of the blue. It was a truly wholesome experience.

A very important place to remind us all of 3 things. 1 to never allow ego/power to corrupt those we trust to lead us. 2 to never use atomic weapons ever again. 3 humanities endurance to rebuild beauty from the ashes of tragedy. Hiroshima/Nagasaki are scars on American history that are important to remember, and never repeat.

I was in Hiroshima in 2019. I walked through the peace park, and along the bridge, and before the a-bomb dome building and never said a word. There was no need. Some things do not require words to convey their meaning. Sometimes, words fall short.

For me, the main highlight in the Hiroshima area (besides seeing the horrors of the atomic bomb, and hoping that it will never happen again), is staying on Miyajima Island. Before the day visitors arrives, and after they leave, the island is so peaceful and beautiful. I suggest that you stay there for 2 nights, to fully enjoy it. Choose a place with an onsen, and with halfboard (unless you dont like oysters, seafood and fish) and japanese rooms with tatami mats and futon. Myself, I am a big fan of Kokuminshukusha Miyajima Morinoyado which is right next to the aquarium and offers really amazing food (from the sea) and great value for money.
