I was in the hospital once cause my sciatica pain was so bad I couldn't walk. I still have trouble with back pain (mainly lower) and constant leg pain/cramps in both legs. When I try to sleep at night the pain is worse. I try to get comfortable, but then I just feel the pain more in my back and legs. I like sleeping on my stomach most. I also sleep on my side most of the time. Rarely on my back. I tried sleeping with a pillow between my knees. It helps sometimes. Not all the time. I've also slept with pillows under my legs and tried sleeping on my back. That lasted maybe a hour of sleep before it felt stiff for sleeping on my back. What bugs me most is my leg pain is always their no matter how much better the support from pillows feel on the pressure from my back. My muscles are tight too in my back which makes it harder to relax at night. I don't know what to do. 😕

Hello, I have spinal arthritis and a messed up back from where I'm mostly blind and have had to lean over to read for about 30 years. I've tried therapy, pain meds, and a lot of pillows. The way I sleep is that I've bought a firm mattress, and a firm body pillow. I sleep with my back to the body pillow, pillow between my legs, shoulder under the top of body pillow (all trying for spinal allignment, and another pillow in front for my arms. I've woken up many times with my spine hurting so much I can't get out of bed. I also have a TENS Pro, soak in as hot of water as I can stand in baths, l weight lift (checked that I'm doing it correctly with my phys therapist), and none of it seems to work. What are your thoughts on spinal injections, and do you have any other ideas that I could try?

Because I herniated two disc in my lower back and one in my neck, the only way I can sleep is on my back with my feet elevated (I own a Craftmatic Bed) and using a wedge pillow for my head. I go to bed with pain and wake up with very little pain! I used to sleep on my left side but can't now because the natural curve in the neck started to straighten out and I have arthritis in my shoulder.

Have you ever tried doing some exercises for the lower back/core? or maybe even stretch? Believe it or not this can help out a lot, and specially strengthening that lower back.
@MrGravloc
@MrGravloc 2 жыл бұрын
@@xSwaii I agree about core work but as somebody with bone on bone L5/S1 L4 herniated 6 other bulgers and herniated disc ( last one in neck , forget what its called , something one I guess) , believe it or not MANY types of stretching can make pain way worse . Strengthing the core MEANING BOTH STOMACH ( ABS) and lower back and the whole core. But I was stretching and getting worse and worse until a women who worked with one of the most famous back guys in the U.S. saw me struggling to walk up 4 stairs to walk into a public place and asked if she could ask some questions and eventually told me to try and STOP STRETCHING for a week or 2 and see . Within a few days I DID feel better and not much longer much better. I will also tell you what a great excercise is for a bad back and this is ALSO counter intuitive until you understand . HIKING on steeps , or something with some decent grade. Also hiking on UNEVEN GROUND with ups and downs . It causes you to use your core over and over to balance and the uneven ground makes you constantly move like a gyroscope so that you hit every muscle in a NATURAL WAY . We are basically designed to walk and hike and not on COMPLETELY flat surfaces. Start off easy and build up. If you dont live in the mountains like I do then it might be not doable but walking in any kind of woods that are not to flat is helpful but the more grade the better . Even if your really messed up big grades are not an issue . If your on a big grade just go as slow as you need to go as far as possible. When going down you may need to go slow and step sideways because going jdown can be rough on knees but the down part works your core differently and if you dont try to be a SHERPA on your first try even your knees will feel better after a while as you build up strength . Wrapping your knees or using braces for knees can also be employed if you have some knee pain or instability but do whatever you can natural to allow your body to build its OWN support. HERE IS THE ULTIMATE , if you go hiking and there is SUPER COLD STREAM WATER wear a bathing suit under your gear and bring a towel and at the end find a pool of the coldest water you woud NEVER WANT TO BE IN and go in it as deep as you can and hopefull sy sit down in the stream so the water covers your legs and lower back and approaches chest if possuble. You may only last 30 seconds and be yelling WTF the first time but when you get out towel off and get clothes back on you will feel so much less pain and it will last for a while , days to a week and then keep going until you can handle a few minutes and try for around 5 . It feels messed up at first but GOOD SCIENCE on why this works and health benefits way beyound joint and back pain . Its basically Polar Bear stuff and can increase longevity and certainly help crush inflammation so IT WILL BE HEALTHY if your already of decent health . Dont go in freezing water if your ticker is bad or whatever and make sure if you do it in winter your near your vehicle or whatever and have a towel and can get into warm gear and all that . MIND BLOWING DIFFERENCE IN PAIN plus good mental benefits and you feel great as you start to train yourself to handle the pain of extreme cold water . 5 minutes of cold shock uncomfortable ( you start to like if your the sort that enjoys excercise and pushing yourself ) to get days or weeks of less pain and better mental is SO WORTH ANY LEVEL OF DISCOMFORT and if you live where you can do it for FREE thats the best part. You can also get a plastic barrel of some type and put water in it during winter to let it get cold and or add ice and step into that and kneel down and stay as long as possible. And I do have stenosis in my neck as well. At my worst I can not stand or sit or do anything and my legs cramp up and my missing disc KILLS , that is when for whatever reason I am unable to excercise ( and slowly build up) and do the rituals I have set forth , but even as MESSED UP as I am amd the severe pain and dissability it causes , doing as the other poster said CORE excercises of which HIKING IS A CORE WORK OUT and easy because everybody knows how to walk and you dont have to remember how many sets of what and all that to be balanced . Doing TOO much AB strengthening without the same for lower back and sides and all the different stuff can CAUSE pain if you over develope or over work one and not the other . You want your ENTIRE CORE EQUALLY TRAINED to keep the mess of a spine we have kept steady without being pulled in one way or the other and not balanced between strong muscles all around. I know this is a book but BACK PAIN is awful if its legit shit from spine degradation and it is MENATLLY tiring , depressing and pain sucks when its at a level you can barely do anything including think so I dont want anybody besides Dictator's , Rapists or Kid Touchers , Politicians and ya know , the really bad sorts to experience it. Give it all a try if possible. DONT TAKE NSAIDS they will cause more pain and degradation of your spine and joints. Look that up for yourself. BEST WISHES for you getting some relief , ANY AMOUNT IS AMAZING when you have serious life changing pain and I know these things to work with much personal experience in the realm of pain . I had hard miles already and then got SMASHED in the rear sitting still minding my buisness by a 7000Lb truck which CHANGED MY LIFE ABOUT 10 YEARS ago so I have tried everything including giant needles in spine and refused pain meds and the morphine pump they wanted to install UNER MY SKIN to inject small amounts of dope directly into spinal cord . FEEL BETTER , its possible and any relief is great and you may find MAJOR relief for a good long while .

I am currently doing better with my neck pain associated with a disc in my neck that has been angry from 2 whiplash incidents in car wrecks. My problem now, Is waking up about 3 hours after initiating sleep with the sciatica from my herniated L5 S1. I was wondering if using my inversion table is going to eventually help bring that pain up the leg just like the Mackenzie methods. My body metastasized 5mm of the herniation in about a year and a half so keeping fingers crossed with all my new habits it continues this trend.
