‘Absolute calamity’: Perth Lord Mayor blows up over Labor’s detainee bungle

Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas has blown up at Anthony Albanese and Labor’s missing ministers after a
released detainee allegedly assaulted a grandmother in her home.
“They can’t be found - there is no answers from them,” Mr Zempilas told Sky News host Danica Di Giorgio.
“And then, given the opportunity to say something strong be a bit positive, perhaps even admit that they haven’t quite got it right - the Prime Minister decides to deflect.
“When they duck and dive and dodge and don’t front up, what are we supposed to think?
“It has been an absolute calamity and a grandmother where I live in this city in this state has copped the absolute pounding that we have seen, allegedly by one of these people.”

I think that Basil has his sights on the top job with the Liberals. Considering the current Premier, substandard Labor Mr. Cook, that might not be a bad idea. When I was in Perth last I didn't much like a lot of the street people. Someone told me they have homeless housing near the city, along with drug safe spaces. Basil was trying to intervene to stop further developments. The indifferent, slum mentally of the WA Labor party is like the Victorian Labor party... It is a race to the bottom.

Weren't these people put into detention under rules designed and enacted by Peter Dutton and the LNP? Surely, if Dutton had got the laws right in the first place and hadn't locked these people up unlawfully, the courts couldn't have ordered their release into the community.
