25:00 That's the reason Toothless is really scary. For some reason, many people pay attention to his cute appearance, but completely forget his description from the book of dragons. He dropped to the ground a dragon that was 15-20 times bigger and heavier than him, who also stood firmly on all four legs, with one shot. If you start to look into the details, then you realize that Toothless is a damn scary combat unit.

So when Hiccup was in training, stopping all those dragons, all people would see was Hiccup throwing his arm out and the dragons falling over, or some similar thing that could be mistaken for intimidation or violence, especially when the viewer is predisposed to those being the only possibilities. That's why Stoick called it "A trick?! A lie?!".

Hiccup learning to fly reminds me of the Wright brothers. He had to invent and troubleshoot so many things from scratch, and he had his technical background to help him (Wright bros were bike mechanics). Also, some of the aerodynamics actually make sense. In the test flight scene, he speeds up as he dives (less lift but more airspeed), and he stalls out as he loses speed in a high angle of attack ("stooop!"... genius), the dragon goes into a tailspin, and he recovers him by the book - level wings, then pull up, then maneuver (looks hella cartoonish and the g-loads would quash them like a fig, but it's cooler when they don't die lol)

Well the animators actually took aerodynamics lessons to make the flying feel as real as possible

If you want to see even more cool dragons, I highly recommend you watch the series. The show take place between 1 & 2. The show is just amazing. I really think you will like it. There are 2 series: 1. Dreamworks Dragons: Riders/Defenders of Berk 2. Dreamworks Dragon: Race to the Edge

Ok, as usual there's a lot of misunderstandings here: they totally accept him being good at creating stuff, just that, if you look clearly at the example they gave us, he invents things that hurt the others because he doesn't know how to use it properly ( like the small war machine), or because he doesn't do his part of the job ( which was here to create and repair objects like swords). His father knew he wasn't a dragon killer so he put him at that place for him to learn something fitting his personality, and as you could see it was a success as he created the tail prosthetis and saddle. What his father and the other kids didn't like was him messing around because Hiccup instead of wanting to succeed in his domain did all the opposite and created problems for the tribe. Just like Gobber told him, it's not the fact he's not build like a muscular and tall warrior the problem, it's his actual attitude, his tries for being somebody he isn't. He is also known for lying about his dragons kills, which doesn't help. And after being a litteral annoyance to everyone, when his father finally give up and let him join the dragon classes, he suddenly doesn't want. It's not that Stoick doesn't listen to him, it's that Hiccup never did any effort to act well. Hiccup may have a way with dragons but at the start he's an unsufferable brat and a nuisance for his father who has a whole tribe under his responsibility. Also if Hiccup didn't hurt and trap the dragon, he'd never be able to befriend him, it was because he was in a weaker position and depended on him that he tolerated him ( just like the little dragons after, they were happy because he was with a bigger one, and fed them). Other than that, dragons just randomly attack the villagers and their animals. Which is the damn reason why they keep killing them and only have this image of dragons.

The first film is cool. The second film is great. The last film is epic. The Xmas film is cute and touching. The OLD tv series is great to fill in the gaps. The new series is total trash.

This sounds random, and is unrelated but Whisper of the Heart is on of my favorite films…. Ever, nice choice.

You’ve gotta watch the shows first before the second movie, they’re chronologically set between them and explain quite a few things. And tgey’re honestly better than the movies imo.

For a first time watch, I honestly would watch all the movies first before watching the shows. I know its not chronological that way but the movies set a base structure that makes the series make more sense
