Finally got the red wire in. The white was so short from NV Power company talking my husband into a new programmable when the original basic one was just fine. A series of power outages caused it to break. I insisted that he paid for the new one which was the same as our original one. Wow did NV Power cut the white wire short! My husband's flashlight holding skills are sub par. With your very detailed instructions I hot it done & it works great, an extra 40mins added because of the shadows & flashlight in my eyes constantly. Thank you so much!

It's a good idea for us amateurs to tag each wire with where they came from on the old thermostat, so that they can be put in the proper place on the new thermostat.

On your instructional video, thank you for uploading, you didn't mention if the electricity has to be turned off to the house or if there's any kind of switches on the furnace that needs to be turned off first. This would be very helpful for people like myself that are forcing in a position in life due to finances to DIY.

No you don't have to turn off the electric in the house. You should turn off the switch that is on the side of the furnace.

Thank you for your Speedy reply I've been living in 57 degree temperatures for a week because I've been trying to look at videos to figure out how to safely do this and me and my animals have been very cold I need to do this today

I have 2 story house and there's 2 independent thermostats on each floor. The thermostat on my first floor seems working properly but heating on 2nd floor is not automatically running on and off but keep burning the oil....:(:( I changed thermostat just now but it still the same...:(:(

Sometimes, we try to adjust the temperature on the thermostat for the heat and it does not come on right away. Does this have to do with the cycles/hour feature?

Do you have to turn off the breaker to the room before doing the swap?

I would turn off the power to your furnace. Usually a switch on the side of the unit. Or you might have a breaker in your breaker or fuse box.

My air and heat are running at the same time in the cool position. Heat runs fine, but in hot weather both are running at same time? What could be wrong.

Many possibilities. I would look to disconnect the low voltage wire from the furnace to the thermestat. It is a small white wire marked W on the computer board.

I installed the same thermostat, my question is why does it turn on and off every 5 to 10 minutes?? did I do something wrong, ideas , please. thank you for sharing your knowledge you have helped me many times!!

If it did not do this with the old thermestat it might be an adjustment on the back of the thermestat. They are little dip switches that set anticipation.

Is there a reason why a company could not install this thermostat so the heat pump will come on? Only works on AC.

I have a question. I live in a home that has one of these thermostat. Is it normal that it takes long to heat up the apartment? It’s heated floors only. We don’t have vents. I have it on high and nothing for 3 hours. PLZ HELP!!!!!

make sure you mark them as you take them off the thermostat. there will be a R W Y G marked on the thermostat. mark the wires as you take them off. sounds like telephone line was used.

I think you only needed to figure out how to reprogram it so your heat settings would be acceptable. If I was landlord and saw you took out my expensive digital programable thermostat and put in this I would be hot.

Yes I pull these out all the time in appts. The problem is in an apartment you don't want maintenance calls. Dead batteries, cant figure out how to program the ts or how to get all the settings right. Tenants now don't know what a shut off valve is or a dryer lint screen. Parents are not sending their kids into the world with basic knowledge. The thermostat is an item that needs to be kept super simple.

LOL! Great response Mr. Helper Guy! Your video about extending knob & tube using Romex was the ONLY one that handled it as per requirements/code. Some didn't even address it at all! Said to replace the wiring in the entire house. Ummmm...not this week mate.
