Lava Canyon Suspension Bridge is a 1.2 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Cougar, Washington that features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is best used from May until October. This turned out to be a true adventure. Originally planned on going to Ape cave. But the Cave is closed until 07/16/2023. So plan B was Lava cave. There is a small rock wash out on the road. My car was too low to cross so I walked an additional .5 miles to the trail head. Overall a super Uhmazing easy day hike. The roaring sounds of the river are hypnotizing. The moss and valles are jaw dropping. From my understanding the second half of the loop after the suspension bridge is a tad harder. Rated as difficult. Cliffs, latters, and steps! But I am a little unclear. So please do your own research. The bridge before the main tail head, you get some great views of Mt St Helens. I will recommend exploring the Muddy River bed under the bridge. So Much fun boulder hopping and exploring. My ideal day I would consider doing both APE cave and Lava Canyon. Remember adventure is always unclear and uncertain. Always have a plan B and always be willing to just explore when the plans don't pan out. Had an accidental, great unplanned video. Cheers, everyone and happy hiking!
