You are spot on the Elayne chapters are torture I just finished it a few weeks ago and this book was a total snoozefest. I also like Balmer what his agenda will truly be. The Dark hound stuff sounded interesting and then ended up going nowhere for the rest of the book.

Cuendillar is introduced in EotW in the form of the Seals on the Dark One's prison. We're given the rules for how they function and their rarity (and thus value) in TDR and TSR. Since strength in Earth is uncommon among female channelers the practice for creating new cuendillar has been long since lost amongst the Aes Sedai, but the raw strength and her aptitude with earth makes Egwene ideally positioned to re-discover this process. You can think of it basically as manipulating the molecular structure of iron in order to create a stronger structure, but this clearly isn't all of it since we know even balefire can't destroy cuendillar. Most likely the power itself is infused in the iron in some fashion, which is why the Dark One's touch is able to weaken them over time by eating away at the One Power with his True Power.

But my complaint is that she said it was because of hints from Moghedien which unless I’m forgetting a scene is just BS.

It's an allusion to the plan and the need for Aes Sedai who can work with metals. It doesn't answer your question of when she learned of it from Moghedien, but we know it has to have been before the events of aCoS.

@@johanjarvinen Hm thanks for reminding me of this moment. Still feels contrived to me for cuendillar to be used to solve both the money issue and the Harbor issue though. Especially considering we haven’t actually gotten any hint at that being a possibility. Imo there’s too many times in this series where Egwene succeeds with or uses something that hasn’t actually been alluded to before the moment.

@@Smycoo I do generally agree that Egwene has some too easy wins given how costly most things are for the other characters. For me it's always been the declaration of war that rubbed me the wrong way. It feels like she gets ta'veren luck at times, but there's as many as 3 ta'veren spotters in Salidar at one time so we know for a fact she's not ta'veren. However I've never taken much issue with the cuendillar discovery. It makes sense that it'd be related to earth, and we've had a slew of people rediscovering things related to their strengths. Since it's established in TGH that Egwene is strong in earth, it feels like paying that off in a way. If everything forgotten will be rediscovered as it seems, it makes sense that it'd be Egwene figuring this out.

Whoa making that connection between Davram Basheer and Perrin. Gotta wonder if Jordan wanted to kill Perrin off. It probably would've been a better arc than Egwene senselessly dying.

The Aes Sedai have been the hegemonic superpower of the continent for a very long time. It's been centuries since they've had a competent opponent and they have become complacent. The only reason they have survived this long is the fact they can channel.

I just finished stormlight and book three was my fave cos of dalinar. Look foward to the next one, even from the prologue its breakneck

10 is slightly better on rereads because you know where the various middle-arc things start morphing into end-book things. It's only slightly better, tho. IIRC there's actually a scene where Egwene sits through a meeting naming a committee to investigate Rand at Shadar Logoth. I've heard people reccomend skipping it completely, I don't. partly it's because the Mat/Tuon romance is magic, and partly it's because without the middle-arc-stuff the end-arc-stuff you get in 11-13 is not nearly as good.

I wouldn’t say the book is fully skippable, but I would say you could just read the plot summary off the wiki and save yourself the time and boredom.

Egwene and Elayne are both so stupid, I wish Bael and Bashere would just crush the Camelyn siege so I could stop reading about it, and why did the rebel Aes Sedai spend months prepping to invade tar valon and end up with literally no plan as to how to actually do anything other than sit around? As usual great review

Haha yeah both their arcs in the second half of the series are serious tedious snooze fest for me personally 🤷🏽‍♂️ Would help if either had redeeming qualities that appeal to me but it is what it is…
