Today in the Catholic Church mental illness has to be ruled out as an explanation for the problem before a major exorcism can be performed. But even a few hundred years ago it was definitely understood by good clergy that there are physically-based mental illnesses, for instance Saint John of the Cross a great teacher on the spiritual life and an exorcist clearly discusses mental health issues such as depression, and how they differ from spiritual issues. I think it says in canon law that a person needs a mental health exam to rule out mental illness before a major exorcism can be performed. It is common today for clergy and mental health professionals to work together in cases where someone needs spiritual care such as exorcism or spiritual direction, as well as mental health care.

yep while this is also true, take into account some diseases or disorders that weren't discovered yet during that time. Their lack of knowledge of human anatomy and physiology does not help them identify certain problems like example nervous system disorders such as ALS, Epilepsy, etc. And during that time, such disorders weren't identified yet so they would be linked to demonic possessions.

That's an interesting theory that fairy changeling myths were inspired by autism. As an autistic person myself, I'm not surprised, because we do often seem a bit alien to people who expect us to be typical. It can be hard to communicate before you get to know me. And we look quite typical, not like aliens; so people see our unusual body language and speech, and they're quite confused. The autistic baby does seem typical at first; but by the first year, they start to miss milestones, to display atypical behavior, to communicate differently, leading people around instead of making eye contact, or lining things up instead of playing pretend. Sure, we grow and learn like any child does--but it can be really confusing for parents who expect a typical child and get this odd, routine-dependent, detail-focused child who loves them just as deeply but doesn't understand how to communicate it. These days, we'd want to get the child some occupational and speech therapy, teach them to communicate, to cope with the world. Back then, they might have thought the child wasn't even human. I'm so very glad I was born in modern times. At least now they only make up stupid ideas about vaccines. I mean, granted, it's pretty insulting that people don't get their kid vaccinated because they'd rather want them dead of measles than to turn out like me; but at least they acknowledge I'm a human, not a fairy changeling.

There are still plenty of autistic children who are traumatized by ABA and other such "conforming-to-society" therapies, so we do still have a long way to go. But yeah, as a female and likely autistic person, I most likely would've had people trying to hold me over a fire. Or exorcise me at some point; as I watched the section of this video with the actress, all I could think of is, after all of that struggling, I would've just passed out exhausted, and then they would've thought that the exorcism worked simply because I'd lost all my energy to fight back. And thereafter, I expect I'd work very hard to mask my symptoms to avoid going through that again, which could have furthered their idea that the exorcism worked.

Not to mention an early sign of autism in infant children is non-typical behavior such as a lack of crying, cooing, or laughing. This likely added to the fairy lore

I had an extremely religious great grandmother. I suffer with epilepsy. I was a preemi and wasn't expecting to live. Obviously i did. Anyway from the day i was born i had seizures and you can imagine what was going through her head at the time. She tried to convince my parents that i needed to have an exorcism done. My parents told to go get one herself. From that day on till the day she died i wasn't allowed in her home as i was the devil child. She called me an abomination 😂 depending on how bad my seizures are i can hust be out of it for a few hours or a day ive ended up not being able to talk. For 8weeks. That was a bad one. Or just jumbled words. Religious beliefs can be good and bad depending on the mental state of a person. I certainly would be some who got exorcised or even killed back then. Scary stuff. Thank goodness i live in this time period.

Some of these “possessions” may have been due to Ergot poisoning, from tainted rye grain. It is from this, that LSD was first distilled. While under it’s influence, seizure type events can occur and people could speak unintelligibly while in a hallucination. They could also complain of ailments affecting their body under the skin. Sometimes, one could be infected by a fungal infection causing Ascending Lymphangitis where a spreading inflammation of the lymph system becomes evident through the skin along with the area being hot from the body’s white blood cells trying to fight the infection, such infections can arise from a small thorn prick. In this condition, one can also feel as though something is crawling under the skin.

Psychics and ghosts do exist, but not what you think. I am an empath and pick up feelings and can read people real well. I don't make predictions. I do however have psychic dreams. The Ghosts are just spirits that don't go to the light when they leave a body. I do hypnosis and work with them through the clients. I cleaned 5 out of my childhood home. The lady that sold the house to my father, her spirit and her husbands was there. He had cancer and she helped him die by poisoning him. They loved each other very much. He died in the house. When she died, she joined him. Now they are in the light. I have a painting left in the house by another spirit that lived there when in a human body. The main spirit was White Cloud who spoke Native American Navajo. I have the recording of Arch Angel Michael speaking Navajo to him in order to get him to leave the place. Earth bound spirits stay there because they are afraid of being punished, religion messes with a lot of people. There are many who stay by their graves waiting for God to come and get them. You never use a body again once you leave it. I was told there is a judgement day. That day all those spirits/ghosts earth bound will have to be round up that haven't gone to the light and taken home to Source energy. That is where your soul/spirit comes from.

Of course her death was horrid, but when you have these thousands of years of belief to back up your conviction that she was an imposter, it's hard to judge him. Moreover the account of him then going to the fairy fort to wait for her just about made me cry. I can't even imagine the soul crushing feeling that must have come when he eventually realized that the thing he killed was actually still his wife.

Ran out one night to get some medicine for the house. , Flu was hitting everyone. The store was only a couple blocks away and i really wasn't on top of my game for driving. My town was notorious for 'quaint' lighting as in bad lighting. The night was very foggy. Usually this doesn't happen at night in my area. I became so disoriented. I became frightened. that day i understood some of the challenges our ancestors could deal with.

All this talk of "our ancestors" All you need to do is head to a local evangelical fundamentalist "church" to see all this alive and flourishing, and making tons of tax free cash.

She likely cut it that way on purpose, you can see her showing the star inside. Apples are used in magic, and when they are, they are sliced thyt way to reveal the star shape made by the seed casings, the symbolic union of the elements and the spirit.

Pagans...Priests, I still see the bell, book and candle, herbs in a cauldron, and potions. Interestingly the only difference is theology and/or agenda. Perfect! As always, we redheaded women are reminded of how we were treated. Always a good show, tho...

People eat pigeons so it’s quite possibly a real pigeon, I really doubt it’s real dog skin though because unless it’s donated by someone after their dog passed it would be illegal to kill a dog for such a reason

Being American I know our folklore pretty well. My ancestry says I'm from British isles eastern European. So thankfully I'm learning a lot of British history through this channel Being a lover of all history this is like all I watch lately some of these I've heard the last one with the women I know of this story. It's crazy if you're being thrown into a fire 🔥 your going to be scared and in those times that lady knew her life was in danger. Sad killed by her own family

Necromancy is not conjuring demons. Necromancy is defined as: "the supposed practice of communicating with the dead, especially in order to predict the future." The "act of evoking, calling upon, or summoning a spirit, demon, deity or other supernatural agents, in the Western mystery tradition" is Evocation.

So...they were rooting out kids with obvious genetic accidents and severe psychological issues.... some sort of natural selection based on folklore? (Animals will also abandon offspring that is not quite right and unlikely to survive to adulthood/ as an adult, thus preventing more suffering.)
