The Shipwrecked Ruins Of The Spanish Armada | Time Team | Absolute History

20 years ago a teenage boy discovered a 400-year-old bronze cannon in water close to the south Devon coast. Nobody has yet identified the ship it belonged to. As usual, Time Team have only three days to figure out who it belonged to. Tony is looking forward to getting into his diving suit but the team cannot dive until the wreck's archaeological supervisor arrives. Meanwhile the wreck's finder, Simon Burton, tells his story. Undeterred by disappointing geophysics results, the divers go ahead with their search in murky water.

I am also from the States, I commented above how when I found this show I binge watched everything I could find on it! I , as many others I'm sure , would love something like this to happen NOW. Oh how amazing this show was from 1994 until season 20ish or so (20 yrs). All I want for Christmas is such a show like this NOW , current in 2020 (almost 2021)! I found this show about 4 years ago. I binge watched everything I could find on videos, episodes of Time Team. Do you know how hard it is to find any new, recent archeology now a days ??? Can you imagine with the techology we have today put to use in something simliar as all these Greats have done in this old show. I'm from the States. I could never get enough, I watch them over and over. If I win the lottery we all will have a new vamped up 'Time Team". If you are reading this Merry Christmas to you and your family and stay safe. A bad storm combined with treacherous currents and, if Robin is right, at night when they wouldn't have been able to see exactly where they were all would have almost guaranteed the ship would go down.

@@auntiejen5376 Keep in mind in the 16th century there were no street lamps or anything. In a storm (at night!) bad enough to crack a ship in half there would have been no visible indication of which way land WAS. And as they showed, the shoreline itself is an evolving thing, it may not have been quite so close hundreds of years ago.

Also you’ve got to keep in mind that not everyone who worked on a ship could swim or were strong enough swimmers.

I don't know if it's true, but I've heard somewhere that sailors of that age deliberately did not learn how to swim, so if they fell in they would "be able to drown quickly". Besides, at night in a storm, who know how far off the coast of an un-lit town without a lighthouse? You try surviving that. Even if you could swim, which direction do you think is up when the waves are high? Let alone which direction is land... Obviously in a storm, you wouldn't even have the light of the moon. Complete blackness and no sense of direction in completely frigid water being body-slammed by wave after wave after wave... RIP guys.

If you keep watching the videos you'll find they do uncover quite a lot of history and resolve questions surrounding the sites they dig.

To be fair, a television broadcast of this program would have about 15 minutes of advertising, so the fact that it's free to watch with mostly skip-able ads is pretty good. Also, I'm sure that the channel sets the ads on this content, not KZfaq.

@@bradenconrad8208 Okay, I never thought about the possibility that the channel might be the party that chooses the amount of ads. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm actually okay with quite a lot of time being allotted to ads; what annoys me is the number of interruptions. In some videos it feels like there's an ad every two minutes or so, many of them cutting the video off mid-sentence. It's stressful to me. I'd rather the ads be shown in fewer, longer sequences.
