I switched from using 4 lb to 6 lb when I fish Rivers. for that reason, when you do finally hook into a big one you risk it breaking. Great video and pretty cool stuff.

I enjoyed your video, but I have one suggestion: When you know that you will have to release under-length fish, consider using a barb-less hook and carry a pair of surgical forceps or hemostats with you. That way you can un-hook small fish right under the water with out ever touching them by just grabbing with the hook the forceps and giving it quick twist. Many trout die after being handled and released.
@WarbirdShooter
@WarbirdShooter 4 жыл бұрын
Cary Michaels Exactly. Also, you should always wet your hands if you are going to have to handle a fish. That first fish he caught definitely did not make it as it was bleeding from the gills.

Tips: wet your hands before touching the trout and don’t drag them on rocks this will help keep them alive after you release them, your handling skills are to bad though better than most
@Eli-dd5jc
@Eli-dd5jc 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I definitely agree. The slime on fish is there for a reason. Its basically their immune system, protecting them from parasites and illness. Wetting your hands significantly decreases the amount of slime that comes off. And dragging them on rocks is just silly if you're going to release the fish.

Hey Micah....I totally agree on crawdads being awesome bait and one that I think not a lot of people try very often. I find the tail meat to work for MANY species actually, especially catfish. I never have liked using really smelly, nasty baits for catfish and honestly, when I do, I rarely catch many catfish. I have always done extremely well with crawdad tails for catfish but even for Crappie, Bluegill etc. as well. I think part of the reason it does so well is that there are not very many people presenting as their bait unlike worms etc. that I am sure they get bored with seeing all the time. One thing you may want to try that has worked well for me to keep the bait on the hook after catching a fish is to tie a little bit of red colored sewing thread around the meat and hook. Not too much but just enough to help keep it secured to the shank of the hook.

Ok, nice vid.... but other then the squirrels tied to bricks, the thing bothering me is that this guy doesn't seem to get that a length limit helps an area hold larger fish, and with spawning in some cases, so that there is more trout in the river period.... If it doesn't matter then why are you fishing on that side if you wanna keep some? ....and you found large trout on that side while snorkeling. Connect the dots bro :) ...And alert the authorities that some psycho is tying squirrels to bricks and throwing them in the river. Just giving you a hard time.... but seriously call the authorities about the wacko :)
