Hello NittPicc and welcome to Voice of Baceprot! This band's importance cannot be overstated, not because of any landmark musical compositions, but because of who they are as people. They provide a critical counterpoint to many Westerners' toxic perceptions of Muslims, using their, now global, platform as activists who fight for equality, safety, and opportunity for ALL people! Imagine the courage it took, as devoutly religious teenage girls growing up in a small rural village, to stand up for themselves against the pressures all around them (they have said in interviews that they literally had no friends for quite a while). They are pure inspiration and are providing hope for all our futures! ♥

I am a 56 year old American man with what might be considered a stereotypical musical palette based in western rock/pop music. In recent times however, I tired of new music in this realm, and have primarily listened to Latin music of many genres, and more recently, music from the eastern hemisphere mostly performed by women. THIS HAS BEEN SO RE-INVIGORATING!!! I love not only the immense talent, but the very diverse presentation of so many of my NEW favorite rock/metal/pop/funk/jazz-fusion acts. I also love that these ladies don't feel the need to promote themselves in a hyper-sexualized manner! Their true beauty shines through in many other ways!

Hello from Germany, really nice reaction to my favorite metal band. I am an old Hardrock Lady and these three ladies just reached my heart with their music. Perhaps it is because they really have something to say! So I think that their music is needed today - against all stereotypes!

Back in their village, they were getting a lot of pushback, and even hate, for playing rock music. For a follow-up I would recommend *_Not Public Property_* - a rejection of male 'handsiness' (and worse) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sMBog7SD3dSXoY0.html . My personal favorite. Their Story: Marcia's mother hated their music and told her to 'stop that foolishness and prepare yourself for marriage'. At one point during an argument at a gig Marcia was actually punched in the face! They went to their local religious leader and told him that there was nothing in the Koran that prohibited women from playing music - "What can we do?" He told them to write a song to God and ask him for permission. Marcia wrote that song: *_God, Allow Me Please to Play Music_* . They recorded the video . . it went viral, and their career began. I LOVE them!

I went to see them on their only U.S. tour. It was a tiny place in Chicago, but they rocked it and seemed so happy to be there. I talked to their merch guy for a little bit, mentioning I drove over 5 hours to get there, hoping to get brownie points to meet the band. Lol. Didn't happen, but it was a great show.

my first introduction to VOB was the music video PMS. it has one of my all time favorite lines. "you're loud dogma is just a ruse, to shackle all the fools!" these young ladies do not waste lyrics. check it out . peace!!

Great point about what it takes to work as a trio. That is one reason some of these young trios (The Warning, Asterism, Trident, VOB) are so damned impressive. They all have a huge sound that is also beautiful.

I'm not crazy about some of their other stuff, but this song is a gut-wrenching plea, in a very real sense, that just always hurts me that they even have to ask. This song is so great. So great.

'School Revolution' is their OG song when they were still in highschool. If you are going to keep reacting to VoB I suggest starting at the beginning of their musical career.

Let me just say that I fell in love with this band through this particular video. Such a strong message, and such brave young women cannot be ignored. And when I started exploring their catalogue it only got better and better. Even their earliest videos as a band in high school are great. Since then they've been on tour in Europe and the US, appearing at major festivals in those regions. Recently they broke with their management company, which I think may have set their career back a bit, but they seem happy with the direction they're forging, so I'm very happy for them. But they do deserve a tonne of respect for their hard work and dedication in the face of some very difficult opposition to their career by the more conservative elements of their community, and even their own families. But they didn't let that deter them one bit, which is just incredible.

It has been difficult for them as they struggle for acceptance in their home market. The one thing making it at least a little easier is that their president is a metal head. The country is also predominantly Muslim which comes with its own set of challenges for a female rock band. They visited the US last year and I was privileged enough to see them live ... unfortunately they have separated from their label, 12 Wired who enabled the tour. I am not sure when they may be back ... but these girls have a lot of fight in them. Widi won my heart live. She is really talented. Marsya is the obvious leader ... but I think Sitti and her show collection would be your favorite ;) .

What these three ladies are achieving is something tremendously commendable.

It is nice to know you react to VOB. Three tough young girls from Indonesia. They know nothing about playing music before 2013. Live far away in the suburb, 2 hours from the small city. They got many obstacles from the people arround them, because rock music is identified as a satan music. But They still went forward, and in 2021 they start went aboard. Tour in France, Netherland, Cheko and German. Their music stories is very awesome, and their talent is so big. Have a nice time with VOB!

VOB are a “Power Trio.” That part was definitely a Reggae break. I admire these ladies especially because, while some bands in the West might fancy themselves to be (or have been) Punk “rebels,” VOB are walking the walking as they quite visibly, and loudly, challenge social norms, and “rage against the machine,” which makes their cover of KILLING IN THE NAME OF all the more compelling. Their song (Our Bodies Are) NOT PUBLIC PROPERTY, delivers another urgent message. Imagine a group of teenaged girls in a conservative Muslim village in Indonesia, starting a heavy-metal rock group in the face of a societal resistance, including opposition by some of their parents. That is Voice of Baceprot. They started off posting covers of big-name western metal bands, before starting to release their own music. They consider themselves faithful Muslims, and wear hijab on stage (with some enhancements, hence “the costumes”), but they still get opposition and even threats from people who are opposed to girls behaving this way (“baceprot” means “noisy” or “loud”). “School Revolution”, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aseKi5B0na6vepc.html their breakout song, is about having the right to have ones’ own thoughts, free of judgement from society. “God Allow me (Please) to Play Music” is about people who use religion as an excuse to persecute artists. My understanding of VOB’s situation is Muslims don’t approve of women pursuing a career playing rock/metal music. I think it has to do with modesty within their religion. The root of this song came from the members asking their religious leader if he would accept their chosen path. He told them to write a song to God. The community still felt it wasn’t right but the band decided to keep playing their style of music. Hence the description of not being the enemy and pleading to God to allow them to play music. In the live shows I’ve seen this is the last song in the set. VOB’s courage to stay the course is nothing short of amazing. They are great musicians who are getting accustomed to the attention of people who enjoy their music and want them to succeed.

I was delighted when this popped up recently on my youtube feed. You've given the music, the lyrics and the visual elements the joyful appreciation and serious respect they deserve. This is the type of reaction VOB deserve and seldom receive not out of malice but out of laziness or lack of musical sophistication. These women remind me of Rage Against the Machine re: challenging injustice and ignorance. They do a hellavu cover of Killing in the Name of at a concert in France.
