great video. My interest in the Rice video is I thought Freezing the Rice was the best way to keep bugs from infesting my Rice. I got about 20 lbs in my Freezer. Now i have to worry about drying the rice after i take it out of the freezer. P.P. i think your idea is best 5 years and rotate.

You are totally correct on this subject. I use a lot of rice everyday and do the long term storage like you described, Some rice can be ground for flour. I use mostly parboil rice and i always rinse several times until the water is almost clear and then I soak it either overnight or in the morning if I am going to cook it at night. I soak it with an acid like apple cider vinegar, kombucha etc and when i am ready to cook i add salt and olive oil. It comes out not sticky and nice and fluffy. I also cook it on a wood stove which seems to cook it better than a regular stove. Thanks for the video

If you use half gallon or gallon size glass jars you can vacuum seal them and have no oxygen and safe dry goods. No refrigerator or oxygen absorber needed. Saves money. Cost of permanent vacuum sealer machine with additional lid adapter is a one time purchase for the cost of a 1 time purchase of absorbers that need to bought every time you run out. Not with the vacuum sealer. Sealers are very affordable, some about the same as an order of absorbers and we haven't even mentioned mylar bags. Also there's the punctuation issues not mentioned. Not a problem with glass jars that are vacuum sealed. You're now good for the long term.

I bought a good used food saver off Ebay like the one Alaska Granny used and it works great for $40! I have lots of cooked rice then dehydrated and I place in my half gallon jars. I use it quite often when I need just a little bit or to hydrate to add to our pet’s food. Also have lots of rice that I place in paper lunch bags at 4 c servings and then place in food saver bags. These are in buckets too.

Way underrated video. I was really thinking the entire time "why not just have rice and store it normally, and use it before it goes bad." And we were on the same page there.

I like what you said about storing for 5 years & rotating through your supply. So many sites forget that some of us (seniors) won't live long enough to eat our way through 30 year storage items/recommended amounts. Family sizes & pantry needs change as we go through life, the kids move away or dietary needs change due to health issues. I'm working on a maximum 5 year pantry, with the option to extend/adjust after that, since Prince Charming is 81 (I ain't telling my age 😂) This should do us fine & the kids won't have too much to take home with them when they put me in the nursing home.

I have rice stored in 1/2 gallon glass jars, clear vacuum seal bags, and I've just thrown the whole 25 lb bag in a 5 gallon bucket with a gamma seal lid. I also have stored many varieties of white rice but no brown rice. My pantry is in the house. To hot and humid here to store outside.

Thank you for your video. Well shoot, ... I was setting myself up not to like that Parboiled Rice and now I can't do it. I might even have to buy some more. I wasn't impressed with the way it cooked up, ... Imagine, being so rich I can afford to be fussy. I picked up an extra bag of Oyster shell for the Chickens and may start picking up an extra bag every couple of months. I make sure there's always some available for the Hens to use as grit and as calcium for the eggshells. There's all kinds of chicks and fertile eggs advertised here on the local websites. You know, I might just buy some laying chicks to replenish the flock with and forget about incubating eggs this year. If the broody Hen I bought last fall goes broody again, bonus. I was looking at a five month old steer being sold for $350 and thinking it could put on four to six hundred pounds on the grass this summer and give me some affordable beef come fall. Goats are looking interesting too. As long as I could get the feed needed to keep a couple of them alive over winter, I'd keep a couple, maybe more. I'd raise them on tethers screwed into the ground and move them along as they clean up the area. Just keep them watered and you don't have to tether the kids because they will not leave the Mum. I'm covering all my bases, ... I have lots of Rice, AND! Wheat, the rice of the North. How many calories are in wheat grains? 340 Examples of the nutritional value of whole grains Nutritional Value (/100 g raw) Unit Whole grain wheat flour1 Energy kcal 340 Protein g 13.2 Total fat g 2.5 Carbohydrates g 61.3a You know you "puffed rice" you did the other day? I'd like to try Puffed Wheat. I'm pretty sure we were raised on those big bags of Puffed Wheat but it's not so. We had lots of Oatmeal, Corn Flakes and Rice Krispies too. Boy, (IMHO) you need one of those straight irons for hair to seal your Mylar with. They are a joy to use. Just don't let them get too hot. I got mine at the Thrift Store for $5. Oops! You mentioned that. The easiest way to cook rice is in a thermos of course. Make it with left over coffee water in the morning. It will be hot come lunch and still warm come supper. Lots can be added to it too. Like dried veggies, and Bouillon cubes. Extra boiling water and it's soup. Good luck.
