In this Chemistry / Physics video in Hindi we explained the absorption spectra and emission spectra for class 11. These are also called atomic spectra. Emission spectrum is often called as line emission spectrum.
When white light is passed through a prism it splits into its constituent colours and on the screen we get bands of colour, which are called spectra. As one colour band merges into another, it is called a continuous spectrum.
When white light passes through a gas or a transparent material, light with some specific wavelength are being absorbed and we get some dark lines on the screen. it is called an absorption spectrum.
When the material is made excited by heating or otherwise, it emits light of specific wavelength and on the screen we get some coloured lines. This spectrum is known as emission spectrum.
These spectra are often called atomic spectra.
