Today I''m going to create some fun artworks using Schmincke watercolors and Jasart fineliner pens. As I filmed this out at my dad's place, I thought I'd do something "easy" and make some abstract art. Some of them I turned into reverse colouring, and I'll explain it all in my video if you're unsure what that is. If you want to paint along, feel free to use any paints, paper and pens you like; it's a good way to use up your supplies. 😊
If you don't feel like painting your own designs as I did today, here's a Reverse Coloring book which is popular on KZfaq (Amazon affiliate links are included). The book is by Kendra Norton and I think she coined the phrase Reverse Coloring.

Someone snagged that term and has trademarked it, which I think is hilarious but there we go! It's a bit like the whole Zentangle craze, which was basically copyrighted doodles - the world is a strange place, lol.

Becky. thank you for a refreshing, inspiring video! My favourite is the reverse painting, and it's woken me up to know how to play with Miranda's Da Vinci set. I've not done a lot since Christmas (!!!! 😮 ) Not sure why, but time just disappeared, I saw fish and undersea stuff, too, and the idea of 'deep ocean'' was great to allow your imagination to run happily and unrestrained.. Now the plein air season's here, I've mostly been drawing and getting irritated because I really do want to add paint to them, but the drawings have taken far too long.. Anyway, I've made a note to do some abstract - my favourite way of finding out more about new equipment - with the Da Vinci set tomorrow, in between feeding the washing machine, hanging it out (actually a sunny day tomorrow!) and as it should dry quickly, ironing some of it... I liked the bubbles painting best before you added the outside background, because the flat, dark black inside the white outline made the bubbles become truly three dimensional, BTW, I really liked that dot painting in your sketchbook, and the faces, too. It's interesting that my favourites are the reverse of yours - possibly because I saw grass and flowers from the beginning of those two pieces? But this is what makes art so special, and one of many reasons why I enjoy watching your videos; Another, as I've said before, is that you show us the 'real' and not just the perfect piece of work. Thank you! 🤗

Thank you! I think doing some abstracts is a great idea if you're feeling a bit stuck at the moment. I think it's pretty normal to have times of low creativity, and it'll come back when the time is right to do so. 😊

Fascinating illustrations and a wonderful thing to do when you just can't think of anything to paint! I really liked the leaky round one where they bleed into each other, that would be great for mixing colours and see what you get, I really enjoyed this, hope your Dad is doing better too :D

There's a rabbit and an elephant in the sky, but they're not sea creatures! That last painting, in particular, was great fun. It reminded me of finding creatures in the clouds while riding shotgun with my husband on a trip. Does anyone else still do this?

I definitely feel like there is pressure to always create planned pieces and sometimes loose, imaginative pieces like this can be so much fun! They all came together a lot, I think the one with the circles (I see them as bubbles) was my favorite up until you reverse-colored the sea creatures piece, now that one is my favorite! You discovered some new deep sea creatures with that one😂 Everything looks better with fineliners/pens, that’s just the rule of course!!😅 watercolor is the most fun to just watch the paint flow, it has a mind of its own and it’s beautiful to watch the paints blend together or create textures/patterns. For that same reason it can be hard to learn cuz you never have full control over it!!

I was having problems coming up with something to paint, today, and ended up just drawing lines, with paint, on my paper. Like you, I used a variety of media. It isn't great art, but I got in practice trying to draw lines without a lot of squiggles. That led to another picture drawing circles, which led to me drawing my shoe, and then a cartoon sea scene. Sometimes, just putting pen or paint, or crayon to paper is all it takes to get going.

I've often thought of doing the same as you and make my own reverse colouring page. Sometimes as a viewer I'll see a really obvious things in the blobs and it's so frustrating when the artist doesn't see what I see 🤣 The blue and red piece actually looks really awesome once finished. The chaos if it, makes it really unique. Clumes keeps making the news lately. I was trying to remember where I had last heard the town name as it was really familiar and then realised it was your previous video. It's been a really bad few months for the greater Ballarat area.
@BeckyTregear
@BeckyTregear 4 ай бұрын
Haha I'm sure there are plenty of other images in these which I didn't see at all! 😂 OMG I can't believe how insane it was out at Clunes with not one but TWO tragedies happening! In such a small town that most people have never heard of. I walked past that red and grey building every day, and I even showed it in my video. For about three days, there were multiple news crews in the street, taking turns to stand in front of it. It was crazy. The pub also had a huge bunch of flowers piled out the front for a week or so. So very sad. 😢 (I got back to Melbourne yesterday - totally wrecked after all the stress of the last month).

Hi Becky, I like the flowers, both kinds, the sea creatures, and the teething ring that looked like marbles until you connected them altogether, lol. Well, on the 14th i went into the hospital. I was intubated after i came close to dying. Two days later, the doctors removed the breathing tube. I was taken out of ICU and put on a regular unit. On the 19th i was discharged to go home. I am on oxygen and i am not permitted to drive until i see someone (OT) does a driving evaluation with me. That totally sucks.
