In this video I make an abstract painting based on vertical stripes. To make these stripes I used masking tape. The paint used is acrylic paint.

Thank You John. I learned so much to look at you .I’m almost 80 and didn’t do anything for 2 years. Yesterday i took my pencils and was for about 3,5 hour in heaven. Its beautiful to do things I saw you doing. But I needed more time than in the video’s..hahahaha. I life in the Netherlands so we have quarantaine to.I’m folling you about 1’5 year and I love your stile. It looks so easy, but it isn’t. Thanks for teaching I hope you stay well. Love you!!

It said ... vertical stripes ... and the opening was/is so much better, such variety, so much skill, it's artistic, just watching the tape go down. Lovely music choice too. Excellently done.

Thank you for sharing John, you are a true inspiration, I signed up to your course a few weeks ago. I only started painting 7 months ago, I was not sure where I wanted to be as to style, (I can't draw to save my life) stared acrylic pouring, but not really my thing!! since have been painting flowers and tree scenes, mainly around water. then I found your youtube, a few weeks ago, WOW abstract is where I wanted to be. First time viewing one of your videos. I wasn't sure about it when I first saw you put all the tape down then paint and pull up the tape afterward. Nothing against realism, but what I love about abstract and why I prefer it is there isn't an obvious subject to look at and immediately know what it is. That's not appealing to me. I think abstract art isn't so much about identifying what it is, but more importantly, how it makes you feel. The work you share with so many is not only inspiring, but important as well. Thank you..

Hey John, so glad I found your site. As an absolute beginner in acrylic painting I tried the method of this Video. And what can I say? Astonishing, maybe I will get the confidence to go on. The result of my ‚stripes‘ painting is really not bad, I‘m more than happy 😀. I really like your style! Easy and fun watching your work. When pulling off the masking tapes , and you dont really know whats coming out, (you know!), in the moment, it‘s exciting like striptease, I‘ve got the impression (as a woman) and enjoy 😀

To be honest I never cared for abstract art and have always stuck to painting realism art but when I saw your art it was just so beautiful and has really changed my opinion on abstract art. I guess I just had to find the right abstract art lol anyways you are very talented and I love watching your videos in quarantine it's very relaxing.
