Hi Sandra, what a lovely piece of art. Thank you for showing us your technique. For my own pleasure I enjoy the moment at 7:46. It reminds me of 2 huming birds. The ratio of light and dark contrast at this point seems just right for me. Also the background colour is very yummy.

Thank you, no my brush is never wet, in the strokes I use very little paint and apply without pressure, the color. My canvas is 40 x 60 cm

I don’t understand some thing… I’ve been an artist my whole life and I started canvas painting two years ago and I’ve gotten really good with the use of different mediums. What I don’t understand is how I see people working with Paint directly out of the tube and it does everything they needed to do. They don’t use dry retarders for work time and they don’t use mediums to alter the paints characteristics. I have both thick heavy body and fluid heavy body paints and the biggest problem I have is the canvas beginning to expose itself along the edges if the brush touches it after the first application of paint. Using water never does any good unless you’re doing a touchup for some thing, it’s like you either let the paint fully dry before you come back with something else or you keep working while everything is wet but the paint always ends up being too thick. It’s impossible to keep something wet long enough without the paint being too thick and still have viscosity for coverage.

As you can see in the video, I always paint white paint on the canvas and then spread the other paint over it, so the paint stays wet longer. Retarders I also use, but only when the paint is already dried. Use good quality paint. I always prime the canvas first with quite a lot of primer white, so that the paint is not drawn up so quickly from the canvas.

I prime my canvas 2 x with gesso. Good quality canvas and colors
