When reports emerged that AC Milan was the subject of a takeover back in 2016, it appeared that the Rossoneri was just the latest (and biggest) acquisition in a slew of big money club purchases emanating from China.

I think what Elliot is trying to do is economically stabelize AC Milan, make the most out the club and then sell it for profit. This means getting the club back to the CL and building a competitive team that can, at least, compete in the league.

the downfall of italy was cemented with the Calciopoli scandal. A Scandal that big destroys anything and everything and everybody. funny is that Juve ( the main culprit) where the first to rise from the ashes the fastest and comeback the strongest.
@andrew7taylor
@andrew7taylor 5 жыл бұрын
Calciopoli was one of the symptoms of the disfunctions in Italian football indeed. But the reasons of it were the culprits of the downfall of Serie A. 1, At the time, they didn't a collective tv contract, each team sold their own matches, so there was a wide inequality. Even mid-table teams barely got by, so players had to do "a little extra" to get paid themselves. 2, Even to this day, Italian clubs don't own the stadiums, city councils do. So they can't maintain them to prevent them to fall into disuse, can't hold concerts, can't hold stadium tours, can't sell naming rights, can't build VIP seats and sell skyboxes. All those things that all other continental clubs do, they can't, and that's a very big competitive disadvantage. This way, relagating Juve to Serie B may have been a blessing in disguise for them, for it allowed them to put their money into their own stadium without the fans pressuring the club for instant results. And that allowed them to financially dominate the league while all their rivals were left behind.

With EMC, things are out in the open, we give you money but expect repayment. You agree to the terms, you sign the dotted line, by now you know who you're getting in bed with. This is the opposite of shady. Shady is when people funnel money through countless shells and off-shores, shady is when owners lease empty spaces for astronomical amounts to the teams, not when a guy comes with the terms out in the open and you literally give him consent to financially ravage you a couple of months later. As for buying the sovreign debt: if you have a welfare state so expensive you go broke, perhaps it's time to rethink, not just crank up the ol' printing press

He will own Milan long enough to stabilize the club, generate positive cash flow and increase its resale value. This could take anywhere between 1 to 5 years, who knows. The controversy aside, Paul Singer and company are determined to bring Milan back up to top flight, starting from executive and directorial appointees all the way to field personnel. As a Milan fan, I'm stoked!
@craigseddon4884
@craigseddon4884 5 жыл бұрын
Paul Singer was painted in a very bad light in this video, demanding government bonds are paid in full isn't immoral, it is the specific purpose of them and what should happen in the first place. He just capitalises on other institutional investors panic selling their bonds, he has the balls to challenge those countries and he is rewarded with huge returns. Why should investors concede and lose $60 billion because Argentina borrowed $100 billion it can no longer afford to pay back?
@DirkAndDestroy
@DirkAndDestroy 5 жыл бұрын
Blatant predatory tactic manipulating desperate economies. Immoral.
@craigseddon4884
@craigseddon4884 5 жыл бұрын
You think a government being able to borrow $100 billion, piss it up the wall and into their personal accounts, then default on thousands of people devastating their pensions or ISAs is moral? Paul Singer may not be perfect but having him around protects millions of peoples finances from being stolen by corrupt nation states. It is no surprise the countries Singer has chased for money rank amongst the most corrupt in the world.
@timothystamm3200
@timothystamm3200 5 жыл бұрын
@@craigseddon4884 the administration who made that default was not the administration that ran up the debt nor the administration that had made most of the decisions that led to them deciding to peg Argentina's currency to the U.S. Dollar (the decision blamed for the ultimate 2001 default). Peronists like Kuchner in Argentina usually take rather nasty actions like convincing the rather large Peronist unions to go on a general strike when a politician they disagree with is doing well. The more honest politicians then usually end up in positions where they have to deal with the mess. On the other hand the Peronists can then benefit from the bad appearance of an American hedge fund trying to reposses against them which fuels their narrative that the global elite and especially the Americans are out to get them. Yes it's bad that Argentina takes stupid debts and then under better management they can't repay them, but trying to improve them or just give them just deserts by blatantly profit focused outside interference will just feed into the corrupt politicians game plan. I am suprised the U.S. State Department didn't try and stop Elliot considering how bad it made the U.S. look.

I'm from Argentina, and the only irregularity I can see in the video is the "savings were wiped out part". The Argentine government at the time decided to seize the citizens savings to stabilize the country (known as "el corralito"). Although arguments can be made about why the Argentine government did what it did, the hedge/vulture funds operating at the country weren't responsible for that

Being offered Equity in the club and when sold off to another bidder will garner him Huge profits on his shares in a small amount of time. He is earning around 1.75 m Pounds a year , he will make 5-10x that if he sells off his shares. Makes total sense for him. As an AC Milan ultra, I am happy that Elliot Management has acquired the club. There is talk (particularly in the comment section) that this will result in lower wages, selling big-name players and exploiting the club's foundation for financial gain; I DO NOT believe so. I believe that the purpose of the deal is definitely financially motivated, however, their approach will be to stabilise the club, re-establish its globally renowned reputation and sell it off to another, more wealthier owner who is looking for Champions League glory. My question to the doubters or those who disagree is "Why would Elliot abuse the club and tarnish its reputation if it does not even allow its employees to have a social media presence?" This would only force them into the limelight and tarnish their already degrading, yet silent reputation. I believe that the purpose of the deal is to re-establish their reputation in the process which will result in more reliability and thus attraction for the company in the future.

5:23 The acquiring of the debt is fair by Elliot as is the demand of full repayment. Argentina borrowed money, and because of huge mismanagement by the country itself is unable to pay back that debt. That debt was sold off by investors (because they needed the liquidity or cut their losses) and bought fairly by Elliot who demanded full payment. The moment he bought the bond, he took full risk of the potential lost non payment. So this video insistence of Argentina being a victim is pure BS, especially by a channel who clearly knows how finance works, just letting their morals clouding their objective judgment. The reason why you have bonds be sellable and buyable in the first place is so investors can quickly trade between a slow long term paying asset and liquidity based on the situation. Without second hand bond markets, interest rates demanded on the original bond will be far higher - so good luck trying get anyone to lend you money in the first place. Try building schools with no financing and see where that gets you. There's a very good reason why Argentina, a rich country 80-100 years ago,has been in economic crisis for decades, it is because of reckless policy of paying off citizens with pork barraling during elections. Yes, government needs to spend money to keep the country living healthily but spend it wrongly or badly and you will have the effects going on for generstiins afterwards. As such balancing between comfort and reality is key.

I don't think so. Even Elliott said that they don't want to own the club, it was just forced onto them. If history has taught us anything is that they're going to do the usual thing with them. Gut the team, sell the best players (Bonucci), lower their wage budget and when they reach profitability on the basis of brand loyalty, sell the team to someone else who will maybe build the club up again.

Stan Dando they were praying on corrupt politicians that were draining the public funds...? Not saying it's just or anything, but they knew the consequences of selling debt etc (P.s. I don't know how all that international debt politics works, just a fan of football)

If they wanted to do that, they wouldn't have signed Higuain or renewed a bunch of other players' contracts like Kessie. They only spend around €350m on a property worth over €700m. The plan they submitted to TAS and UEFA is a 3-year one. They'll spend early and make the club competitive again before selling at close to €1bn.

It will be interesting to see how he's going to make a profit out of a football club where everyone knows that it's impossible as all the money you get (sponsorships and tv rights) need to be reinvested in order to stay competitive.

Milan's condition was so miserable. Long gone are the glory days of dominating Europe.

Sad to see one of the greatest clubs in Europe in the hands of such a leech. Hope they find a better owner and return to its glory days

"Big spending" or shielding some of their wealth from the Chinese authorities. Some use shell companies and Carribean tax havens whilst some are using sport teams.

So to make profit Paul singer will most likely spend some to bring A.c. Milan to top European clubs before selling it for $1billion+
