Dawn of Ragnarok, the latest expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, is a colossal waste of money, time and (most of all) potential.

In Dawn of Ragnarok, you play as a literal God with magical powers in a mythological dwarven setting with gorgeous visuals. And somehow Ubisoft turned this incredible concept into a grindy, boring, soulless cash grab in a way that’s frankly kind of impressive in a strange way. Like you’d really have to go out of your way to make this concept suck. I can’t say I’m surprised that Ubisoft went this route, but I am nonetheless disappointed.

If this past trilogy is gonna remain as woke nonsense with female odin and an unfinished story, then anything good or bad that follows will remain in its shadow. It will be like new star wars. Nothing that follows will ever feel the same. I bring up female odin because one that's what it is, and the poor attempts to say otherwise are hurting the lore and integrity of the lore... by removing rules for a sage and twisting what thay are, we open the doors to this attitude to anything and everything in AC lore. We also lose and or re frame the story. All the story of valhalla is without the isu part is nonsense misadventures with basim wanting to kill us for no reason. The isu part is integral because it informs us on basim/lokis drive and anger at odin/eivor. Now the ending when basim says he doesn't know that we were his target... but apon replaying I think he's talking about not knowing who out of tyr and odin were more responsible for Lokis son and what happened along with the punishment for him and his son. My point here is that the lore can and dose work perfectly well with the male lead... so the excuse the youtubers give for why it doesn't either don't add up or thay are disingenuous. The game is trying so hard to push you to play a way most don't want to that thay have the let the animus decide option (something that only serves an agenda and contradicts the concept of the choice in the begging) and the new game option has female eivor plastered across the screen... yet the advertising was almost all male eivor..... this is a symbol of the true motivation at ubisoft and it puts far far more people off playing at all then you might think. I don't believe it was planned and I don't think that the ending in modern day with basim was either... if he was meant to see female eivor then why use old odins model and just change the face? My point is that we as fans arnt complaining about the right things or pushing for the right things... we are just ditching this and begging for the next, that's a fast way to lose a franchise to a new crowd. The start for layla is good, origins is a good assassin's creed but not perfect.... valhalla at its core is a good AC game.... so while odyssey my be a bit crap the trilogy wasn't lost until valhalla... and I truly think that valhalla would have done better with fans if it was forced male lead... not because female leads don't work but because this just isn't the game and story to do that. It's just odin returning as a women... same features and everything just gender swapped... tyr and loki make no comments even when thay can remember enough about the past that finding the isu site in a blizzard is nothing to sigurd and basim can use an animus just fine.... that also is another reason it makes no sense basim didn't know who odin was.... he'd recognise tyr so that leaves eivor. My point is that instead of youtubers getting exclusive interviews and defending ubi, we should push for the cannon eivor to be changed, choice in the choice games to be respected, no let the animus decide and no charicter on the main menus.... not just female eivor on the shop if accessed from the main menu. By changing this one small thing, the story for valhalla is saved from nonsense, the trilogy is saved from a completely woke and overly political agenda as at lest the lead as a man is competent while most other men in odyssey and valhalla arnt... and we can keep the bulk of the player base with us moving forwards into a more old school game. Alexios players outnumbered the kassadnra players by more than dubble, don't just listen to some radom youtubers and screen rant... thay all have agendas... listen fans and stats giving and verified. We lost so meny fans just for a bad cross over with kassandra and some woke points on twitter... and not even for us, it was for ubi! We are the fans and that means we hold the power... by fixing the base problem in valhalla we can make up for the last few games and save even more fans from leaving AC because female eivor shows up in another game.... this is make or brake pepole. You either stand up as a cuminaty or AC go's full disney star wars and you'll never have it back. I know the sisterhood are gonna be talked about, but thay arnt us thay don't like AC like we do.... thay see AC as bad for the lack of women, something we arnt against having.... thay seek to "fix" AC by making it into something thay like.... that's why we have werewolves in dlc... say what you will about base game but its all pritty grounded.... the sisterhoods vision for AC is the druid's dlc... no assassin's no templars.... just magic and strong women with weak and evil men.... Save valhalla and save the future of assassin's creed.... let it die and just as the last skywalker and druid's dlc said.... build the future and destroy the past.... that's not what we want! Don't let it happen.

Given the price not to mention all the BS we've had to deal with, I not only expected this but I called it. Ubisoft's greed is what killed the game, make no mistake about it. I wouldn't hold your breathe on another DLC. I highly doubt Ragnarok is going to sell anywhere close to what they would need to pull a profit on it. Trailers released for this DLC were getting extremely low numbers and the hype was basically non-existent. It's going to be 50% off or more within a month. And if no one is buying the expansion, that means no one is around to purchase MTX's. And that's all they really care about at the end of the day.

@@Entreped I don't know whether or not to feel optimistic about that. On the one hand, the game has a ton of issues from a rushed launch, greed, and laziness all of which couldn't get worse if Ubi$oft stopped dropping DLC. This is why the modern setting in AC was so important!! The story has gotten so far away from its original purpose following the finale of AC3 that each game is now literally a meta-meme from the templar/abstergo sections of AC4/Rogue. The mythical stuff doesn't even make sense, the animus was supposed to be giving access to genetic memories, but since the quirky glitches of AC Origins the mythical side of the games is just way overblown!! AC was at its best when it weaved in historical, mythical and fictional stories together, creating their own narrative, this is just nothing more than cash grab after cash grab and I'm done with A assassins Creed

The peak of old and new ac was honestly unity. Start of Multiplayer idea and limited resources so you could technically have different roles each time you played. If they added a more ingrained multiplayer with a more specific class system it would've been perfect along with the melee system in WDL and ACS. Why not actually go into RP systems instead of pussy footing around the idea, making every game half baked.

I enjoyed the main game a lot. The way they showed how the Norse Isu actually looked like in the unlockable video was a great decision. However, they need to go further with that and show the actuality of how the Isu looked, and the tech they used much more often moving forward. I didn't bother buying this DLC because it should have been in the Season Pass. So I've just checked out spoiler videos. And from now on when it comes to any AC content, I'm taking the wait and examine approach before even making a decision about buying.

Does it have anything to do with the future content, or Eivor themselves? Or is it ALL about the ones who came before? That's the thing that has me not wanting this, if it's just a trip of Eivor's like last time, it's completely worthelss to me. The WORST part of the base game was the Odin stuff, it was needless and padded out and the only thing you needed to take from it could've been shown in a cutscene rather than extended into a bloaty mess. They decided to make an ENTIRE dlc around this? That's preposterous and hard to fathom in my mind.

Compared to the Elysion, Hades & Atlantis, the world just looks bland, like Base Game + a little bit of unique architecture. You took little damage on that flurry of hits from Malvigr, in Aesir you would be dead. Maybe you would have a slightly different opinion then. Also, most of the video is ranting about what you feel they did wrong, but, as every other AC Valhalla rant video, judging the game or dlc for what is not (to you) instead of for what it is. Game design is very difficult, specially at this scale. Im ejnoying it very much for what it is and im not fretting about the 40 dollar price tag.

Valhalla's base game was ok for me, but with the DLC's I literally slept on the couch, when characters talked. Glad I skipped that one

So in short, an already extremely bloated and unfocussed game gets even more bloat, and you even have to pay for it outside of the season pass!? I have always been an apologist for Assassin's Creed, but outside of having played as anything BUT an assassin for several games now, the games have become so big and stuffed with pointless grinds that they are ow both overwhelming with stuff to do, but underwhelming at the same time, since nothing of the stuff you do makes a noticeable difference... Say what you will about Syndicate, but at least some of the collectables and sidequests actually gave you new goodies, like schematics for upgrades, or even a sweet set of threads for Evye... Most of what Valhalla forces you to do is based around upgrading your town, with most of it increasing a foodbuff you don't need and i can't remember ever bothering to use, getting pieces of a new set of armor that you won't be using, since there's no point switching loadouts after finding a set that matches your playstyle, or hundreds of nodes for ressources to get slightly higher numbers for all those weapons and armor pieces you won't be using...

Agreed. AC Odysseys DLC was much better, it was not only rich in area but also story oriented not unnecessary grind like Valhalls DLCs

Not fair to compare this to odyssey dlc as it had only 2, this one is extra. And the odyssey dlc were all very very small maps with very little playtime compared to what we got in at Valhalla. Definitely the richest ax game in areas and content with good story that matters for later games in series

Ubisoft has terrible writers. Every single game has the same dry, boring dialog, and presentation. Coupled with the standard Ubisoft open world filler map icons, and it's just the same game over and over. Be it AC, FC, Division, WD, etc. They're all exactly the same.

the base game itself was pretty decent, i enjoyed the story lines but most of them were overall very weak with no real highlight, other than a few and the end of the game was... pathetic. tried ragnarok and while i like the mythogoly everything else feels so disconnected, i play a whole different character, im just dreaming and on top of that im still in a fucking animus with a character that no one cares, they should just scrap this idea or make a AC game in the modern days were this can come to an end and just continue AC as is, if they want to continue the RPG route they have to do it, just feels like shit and so disconnected

I knew it was guna be a cash grab, I learned ubisoft's way during far cry 4. I'm glad I skipped it. Tired of them. I enjoyed origins and odyssey and lore of the generation of that time period. Idk what they are doing with ac. I guess they ran out of ideas. China or Japan, or Germany or something could be good. Also the fluid of the character movement in origins and odyssey feels good. Valhalla feels sluggish and tank like.

I found Valhalla mediocre at best and once I finished the Ireland dlc I’d had enough, while I could happily go back and play Origins again, I’m happy if I never play this shit again. As a Viking Eivor was a pussy and as an assassin, well he doesn’t want to do that either. He’s like a Jack of all trade while being a master of nothing
