If anyone in those comments actually played AC1 (not even to a point where they can play well, just played it normally) then they would realize that AC1 is already far faster in terms of horizontal movement because AC1 has very little recovery between jumps. Mirage’s recovery between jumps is absolutely fucked because there’s an obvious pause between every jump. This is bad because Mirage is trying to incorporate Classic AC level design, which focused heavily on chains of constant jumping between beams and ledges. It was great in Classic AC because: a) you had the control and responsiveness to decide how you wanted to move around b) Altaïr and Ezio had low jump recoveries, meaning that they don’t slow down or lose momentum There are two possible problems with this approach in Mirage: a) the constant jumps reveal how awful it feels and looks to jump in Mirage and the RPG engine b) you will lose momentum with literally every jump as Basim pauses on every landing This means that parkour in Mirage will either be inoffensive, or depending on the person, absolute torture as they have to not only wrangle Basim but they also have to contend with constantly losing momentum and floaty, sluggish movement. The only reason people actually think AC1 is slower is because people who didn’t actually play the game saw complaints about Altaïr’s climbing being slow and extrapolated that to mean everything about AC1 is slow. Mirage’s climbing isn’t even the original complaint you made, it was the jump recoveries, and anyone who actually PLAYED AC1 knows they are far faster than Mirage’s, easily.

I absolutely HATE how ppl can't formulate their own opinions and just instead be lazy or delusional and just take in the public opinion instead of looking into it first hand.... imagine if ppl took the time to research about comparing AC1 to Mirage of how it plays with its parkour and its speed.... they'd find ppl like 'Leo K [Rogue]' or 'Jcers' that talk and showcase the parkour of the classic ac games

just a side note Altair's climbing is purposely slow the game is designed in a way that if you just head in a straight line you will climb much slower than if you are constantly going for the smaller climbs Altair's initial boost on the wall is much faster than his climbing and you are meant to use this boost to climb the smaller ledges and have an overall faster parkour
@kinography9085
@kinography9085 Жыл бұрын
@@solace2731 yup, that’s how the game is meant to be played. I was just saying that even if you don’t play the game in such a way, it’s still obvious that AC1’s jumps and jump recoveries are significantly faster and smoother than Basim’s, which was Crossfeet’s original critique

I decided to go back and play ac1 after origins dissapointed me and man it's anything but. Climbing is slow, yes, but I felt like I had complete control over every action I performed and there wasn't any of that delay in movement at all. This new parkour system for mirage looks like they put no effort into not only making it feel like a return to roots but to actually make it a decent parkour system at all. Most of it I feel comes from the simplified map design. The newer games of course have far more detail, thus the detection system used to detect where to go, how to interpolate your movement and fit in an animation to boot is what could be making that pause so large. in AC1 there were set locations you could grab that were obvious, so the system just jumps and can make a quick and obvious distinction between what you could and couldn't grab.

Even the die-hards don't deny that the mission structure is repetitive and basic. As for everything else, AC1 is basically a prototype, a proof of concept; there is not much meat on that bone. the thing i love most about AC1 - Revelations' parkour was that it wasn't just a traversal system; it was a part of the gameplay. the movement needed to be deliberate because your character wouldn't just magnetically snap to the ledges. you NEEDED to press the grab button. you NEEDED to properly align your characters. you needed to actually calculate the distance between you and the ledge to know if you'll make the jump it made the parkour satisfying because you were a part of the decision-making process, and most importantly, it added TENSION. i still remember the prince of persia-style crypts from AC2, you feel genuine fear and adrenaline rush from climbing because one wrong move means either dying or having to restart a large chunk of the platforming section again.

AC1 has by far the most complex parkour in the series and its sad because its not a complex system at all It should have been the base that they expanded upon in future games, like how DMC1 has a very solid combat system that still holds up to this day but got iterated on in its sequels and successors to become even better and more complex the Ezio games are a sidegrade and everything post Rev is a downgrade This would be like if DMC3's combat was just DMC1's combat but quicker and then DMC4 and 5 had dogshit combat

i agree that ac1 is jank but part of my point was that ac2 having faster climbing isnt necessarily better. part of what made ac1's parkour good was how you had a choice to make: either go fast (parkour) or go easy (climbing) ac2 adding climb leaps and fast climbing makes the dichotomy between speeds in direct climbing vs parkour much smaller. you can go easy and fast at the same time. there's less extrinsic reason to do parkour. this isnt even mentioning how rev makes running forward optimal due to map design, making cool parkour in that game essentially only motivated intrinsically if at all ac1's slower climbing, map design, and vaulting mechanic all make its parkour more complex than the ezio games and everything after the ezio games is abysmal and not even worth talking about i dont even find ac1 the most fun. i would play ac2 10/10 times over ac1 but i would take the ideas behind the balance in ac1's parkour over some corner swing interactables.
