ACA Cyclone Ambiance Hereford Tx

Күн бұрынFound out that the City of Hereford, TX was doing a siren test. Made a mad dash and arrived 3 minutes till testing. KDK was in school and unable to join me. Up on the roof to hear several as I didn't have time to find one and setup. 30 seconds later and 7 Cyclones and 2 SD-10's came to life. In the video, you can hear the closest that is about 2 blocks away. then 2-3 more. They test for 3 minutes in alert mode. Hopefully we can get back over there to do a better video and not be so rushed. If you can't hear a siren in this town, you need to get your hearing checked! Thanks for watching!

One of the best engineered Omni sirens ever if you ask me. It really sounds like they’re not just screaming, but deeply bellowing that 8/12. That should get all the attention.

Such an incredibly haunting melody. Shame the ones at the infamous Three Mile Island got replaced. They had a nice mix of these, 9/12 P10s, about 5 2001s, and 1 T121.

It does sound great! When the system was first installed in the early 80's they would sound them in attack. Made my hair stand on end. Especially when there really was a tornado and at night. They were phone line activated then. Now they just have the alert signal. We asked them if they do attack and the ems director said when they upgraded to wireless operation they did not purchase software to do that.

Was over there a few days ago. All the Cyclones are still there ready to go. They were installed in 1982. 40 Yrs and still going. Amazing! Great sirens. I'm sure that there will be talk before long of replacing them. Thanks for the comment. Even though I don't record them anymore I still look at the comments.

@@kdksirenI’m glad Hereford has kept them! I don’t live in the panhandle anymore but I know Amarillo got rid of theirs in favor of the 508s. Up here in Wichita we are in the last few years of old t-bolts as the county plans to replace them with either 2001-130s or 508s. Cyclone will always be an awesome siren! Hope all is well with you!

Why cant I find a video of a Cyclone that doesn't have somebody bragging about the Sentry 40v2T? Sentry makes great sirens, please don't say the Cyclone is inferior. After all, it was designed in 1968.

YES! From my hometown right here. Where i lived you could hear about 4 at a time when they tested them. Very ominous sirens indeed!

Would be nice. Probably won't ever do that though. The cost to make a rotor that is dual tone is more than single tone. I think Sentry is the only one that does large dual tone sirens. Could be wrong though.

yes, but both are great sirens. Cyclones have been in service for years, and to this day Cyclones still pack a good punch. I don't know much about Sentrys, but I know that they are some of the best sirens out there. I like both but, prefer the sound of a Cyclone.

They really do. And they penetrate into a house. You can really hear them inside as well.

@kdksiren The Sentry 40v2T-B has TWICE the sound output of the ASC Cyclone and yet it can still run on batteries with 2 20hp motors.

There was talk a while back about producing a T-125. The guy I talked to (Clayt) said it was similar in design to the Banshee series. I imagine it would be a T-135AC/DC turned vertically. That was a few years ago right after the T-135AC/DC came out and I haven't seen or heard anything about it since then.

The only SD-10 I've seen with my own eyes is the siren used in Burlington Northern Santa Fe's "Argentine" switching yard. It's on top of a large pylon underneath the overpass. I've only seen it once, and it was covered in rust, so I'm not sure if it works anymore. The town of Merriam, Kansas has two Thunderbolts.

Positive that all 7 of these in this town are not reversed wired. They are powerful and loud. Lived there many yrs and they can easily be heard anywhere inside or out. Great sirens!!! They were installed in 1981 and have stood the test of time.

I do think people should record distant sirens, they sound a bit less harsh than up close.

thats when a backup generator that powers the cyclone comes in ( only if the city wants backup generator) but they only make parts for them now . but the 40v2t has 5 decibels more than the cyclone, thats not twice the power , of a cyclone . sentry makes good sirens that a Town near me has .

Wow.....That sounds scary. When we had a bed storm and the tornado sirens went off, we didnt do anything. They were 2001s. But if i had these sirens, i would probably hide then shit out my pants. No joke. This is just, scary.

@form109 It may work, but the chopper on a Cyclone is very large and heavy. I wonder if one out of aluminum would work? interesting idea. Not many sirens made anymore have dual tone. Would be nice for them to still be popular. Thanks!!

@Thunderbolt1000T When we lived there years ago, they would sound them in attack for tornados!!! If that didn't make you freak out, nothing would. Especially at night. We want to go back for a test again next month. Hopefully we can talk ems into sounding them in attack too. Don't count on it though.

This is a bit of overkill. These are spaced about a little more than a mile apart. When I lived there, we had one about a block from our house and boy did it make the windows rattle. Great sound when they would test in attack, but they don't do that anymore.

They test the 2nd Wednesday of the month from March through July. Last year everytime we went to get a vid, it rained or was too cloudy. :( 3 unsucessful trips last year.

Also the largest. I seen an old add thats probably from the early 90's and it showed a man actually standing INSIDE OF THE HORN!!!! O_o

@kdksiren im guessing a simple motor swap could make a cyclone battery backup ready...for example put a modern DC Motor from a T-135DC into a Cyclone....given it has enough torque and power to spin a probably heavier stator/chopper....you could make a chopper thats lighter but with the same port ratios.

They haven't produced the Cyclone for a few years now. ASC has yet to update their website to reflect this change.

all a p50 is, is an aca cyclone hull, inside a rotating housing. That's all it is.

@neosho53059 ASC's website shows them still, but was told that they no longer make them. So, So sad. Everyone wants battery backup and there is probably no way to make these power hungry units battery ran. 50 HP motor running on 480V.

Thanks! I figured out that they test on Second Wednesday 9:00AM to Mar-Oct I could be wrong but I do remember seeing the testing date.

Yes they are. Was over there a couple of weeks ago and there are still 7 of them and 1 Model 2. Great sirens. They were installed in 1981.

At .42 seconds when camera turned that siren in 2 blocks away. The next one is about 3/4 mile away or a bit further.
