Dr. James Tour of Rice University emphasizes that scientists haven't been able to create a living cell in a lab or gain even partial understanding of how it naturally occurred. His ideas have ignited debates and demonization, including unfounded attacks from KZfaqr Professor Dave. This has prompted people to contemplate the origins of life and brought the issue to the forefront. Many have tried to use his faith to discredit him and dismiss his evidence challenging incorrect claims made by origin of life researchers.

Not true. They altered the DNA in the already living, created cell. They did not create the entire organism from scratch. Altering the DNA is easy to do: The redesigned genetic code was then chemically synthesized and, piece by piece, added to E coli where it replaced the organism’s natural genome. The result, reported in Nature, is a microbe with a completely synthetic and radically altered DNA code.

I have been a science teacher for about 15 years and have been the lone creationist in my department every year. Most of the teachers claim to be Christians, but when they teach evolution, they make it a creator. Making change over time a creator is a religion. It's still a form of creationism but it lacks that label and is called science. They dismiss all of the intelligent design aspects as a result of random mutations. I'd love to have a discussion like this with you to expose your work to our humble population of creationists. I have done some work on the missing links and most of the fraudulent work produced by evolutionists, but your challenges are on a different level. Thanks for your work!
@Finraen
@Finraen 8 ай бұрын
Have you ever asked them about the absence of any observation of positive, beneficial mutations drastic enough to produce an entirely new genus and that can also be passed down to multiple generations sufficiently to sustain a population of said new genus? I mean, the idea that mutations - the overwhelming majority of which are detrimental - are responsible for the present biodiversity is just intuitively preposterous. Claiming that "billions of years of randomness" fixes it is more of an exercise of faith than any religious explanation I've ever heard. It is not observable, testable, verifiable, etc. therefore it is not science. The gaps between the different genus's in an evolutionary system are larger than the gap between "everything is complicated" and "it must come from the mind of an intelligent being". It has become a religion of its own. Intelligent design isn't provable in a scientific institution either, but as secular institutions can't we just admit we cannot prove anything and that there are multiple conflicting theories that all make great leaps of faith?

@forrest7050
@forrest7050 7 ай бұрын
@@stevemitz4740 You haven't given me enough information here to be able to answer your question. Can you be more specific in which protein building blocks you are referring to. Proteins are functional proteins, they are not building blocks per se. Once formed, they will bind to other molecules joined by weak covalent bonds. Is that what you mean regarding your 17 molecules? can you be a bit more precise in your question The actual building blocks of proteins are amino acids which are small organic molecules that consist of an alpha carbon atom linked to an amino group, a carboxyl group, a hydrogen atom, and a variable component called a side chain. The simplest amino acid is Glycine, which has the chemical formula C2H5NO2, the side chain in this case being a single hydrogen atom. A single molecule of Glycine therefore has 10 atoms, somewhat less than the 34 you are talking about. £4 atoms would be a pretty complex amino acid. Most known amino acids have around 20 to 230 atoms I believe. Just to clarify, the alignment of atoms and molecules which allows them to bond together happens pretty automatically depending on whether the end points are hydrophilic or hydrophobic, and on the valency of the electrons in the molecules to form the covalent bonds between the atoms.. It can be imagined as the way two magnets align themselves automatically depending on the attraction or repulsion of their poles. They have no choice. They can only align in a certain way when they meet., and if they are facing the wrong way they turn to link together.

The odds are 10^164 - which is more atoms than there are in the observable universe - to randomly generate a single protein of 150 parts. Versus 10^350,000,000 to get from that to life. They know the odds. They know there isn't enough time. They know the chemical composition doesn't favour the argument. But they believe it anyway. The true God of the gaps is a string of 10 with 350 M zeroes after it. But, somehow, it is.

Back in my college days, I remember my calculus professor teaching limits. One in particular sticks in my memory: the limit of 1/x as x approaches infinity = 0. Now, this is just me here, but I'd say that 1/(1×10^121) [or any other absurd denominator one could input] looks alot like 0 to me. The faith required to believe in the intelligence and benevolence of randomness is astonishing, to put it mildly. A God of the gaps argument isn't sufficient to fill the gaps they (origin of life scientists and evolutionary biologists) leave. However, the biggest question of all remains unanswered: From what source do the evolutionary pressures which cause life to spontaneously erupt from disorganized matter emanate? Materialism presents no viable answer to this question. Why would elemental material seek to become more complex? Not how. Why?
@Finraen
@Finraen 8 ай бұрын
This is a good line of reasoning. Who cares if we can't prove God did it? There is no other stronger explanation, even based on scientific evidence. I hope the scientific community will one day recognize the importance of being honest and having enough integrity to admit they don't know, and that many of them rely on faith in the unknown to underpin their belief in evolutionary biology or natural selection or any other explanation for the origins of life and the development of complex organisms. And then to stop mistreating and denigrating creationists and intelligent design proponents for relying on faith for certain parts of their explanation to work. Debate is fine. Gaslighting and gatekeeping is disingenuous. Claiming we lay people can't understand it anyways is lazy.
@GRAYgauss
@GRAYgauss 7 ай бұрын
It doesn't need a why or rather we don't need to be able to access the why..if it's material, how is the why and that's it for us boxed agents. Self organizing systems driven by traversing energy gradients don't need a why, so why do you need an answer for a material why? Now I believe in God but your last question is not sensible. Conceivably gravity, theories of open and closed systems, entropy all could provide viable force gradients to explain how, but we can never reason about why. Consider these cases: why does fission work? why are triangles the strongest shape? Why do classical orbital systems become planar only in 3d space? Not how, why? Doesn't make sense, does it? We can answer how, but attempting to solve a natural mechanism's why is an impossible philosophical quip to march from..it doesn't mean the mechanism doesn't exist because we can't perceive the why. I'm not arguing to say life can spontaneously form. Since the how is so far fetched, and i'd try to argue impossible, I'm not disagreeing with you. It just seems that you're not being quite accurate or thorough...there are many thousands of incredible examples of mechanistic self organization. Personally I think it took intelligent design, because if you've actually spent time fine tuning simulations and exploring the emergent phenomena you'd know nothing really works for what can work, but it's not so simple as saying there is no explanation because there is so much out there. Even Tour isn't so confident.
@Freeman3692
@Freeman3692 7 ай бұрын
@GRAYgoose124 I never inferred that I was more intelligent than Dr. Tour. And you can dispense with the snarkiness. Talking down to me only makes me doubt the validity of any of your arguments. When you write of self-organizing systems and the "how" being more important than the "why" it limits the field of study of the origin of life to materialistic phenomena. Mechanistic self organization occurs within comparatively simplistic systems. Shaking marbles in a box does not a cell make. Now, if you want to address me like an equal, then we can have a dialog. But being talked down to by a random dude on the internet does nothing for me.

The only examples of beneficial mutations are on a very small scale, within species and not even changing the species much less the genus. Billions of years of gradual changes is no more verifiable than a benevolent sky Daddy designing things. Perhaps less verifiable because mutations result from a loss of genetic information, not more information being added. Natural selection is as much a religious idea as any form of theism.

Materialists are the equivalent of flat earthers. They cannot offer a coherent, persuasive argument for their belief, and they dismiss any honest disagreement as bad faith.

100% the same way you have to actually study flat earth arguments to refute flat earthers because of how intricate their arguments are gives the impression they are correct to one who hasnt studied both sides

@@sciencerules8525 It really is not about materialism...because God made everything that was made. It is about the worldview we use to interpret what we examine in God's creation. For instance, atheist geologists see the global layers of strata filled with fossils, coal, oil and gas spanning continents as having occurred over millions or billions of years. Creationists however see those layers being laid down quickly during the Noahic flood which covered the globe,..... burying creatures big and small, burying biomass in massive quantities (later turning to coal, oil and gas from pressures building from subsequent layers laid on top, creating continents and mountain chains as the fountains of the deep opened up releasing magma flows. Materialism can be studied from the point of view of slow uniformitarianism processes or very fast catastrophism events. Mt. St Helens is the best recent example of catastrophism in the modern era creating quickly formed canyons, layers of rock strata, tree trunks penetrating dozens of layers laid down quickly, the quick formation formation of peat at the bottom of lakes etc.

@@sciencerules8525 I have an explanation for creation...you have excuses and pseudoscience...like everything came from nothing and evolution created news species when all creatures are losing genetic information ...not getting it. I have nothing to prove ...it is all on you science deniers.

Few men have the intellect to throw down such an eloquent challenge for academia. Fewer men have the qualifications to state such a challenge. Kudos to the interviewer to have Dr Tour, however my only critique, ( and perhaps this is just my ADHD) I felt that each question was asked multiple ways which seemed verbose, and I was anxious to hear Dr. Tour's answer.

Been following Dr. Tour since 2017. Massive respect for this man of God. The devil is a liar and will refute Truth no matter what and affirm their fiction instead.

Thank you, @cindypope4238, for that reminder. I think supporters of Dr. Tour (myself included ) get so angry and combative against his detractors...but in fact we should pity them. They are being fooled and deceived by "the ruler of the kingdom of the air". Blessings to you!

@@adamschaafsma5839 1/ Not sure why you are not sure, given his statements in the video. 2/ In the video, Tour literally speaks about the 'god' thing he believes in, as though it actually exists. If I am not mistaken, the book his 'god' thing supposedly 'inspired' about itself claims that it actually made human beings out of dust and a rib. 3/ I may have missed Tour saying that he doesn't believe that claim in the book that supposedly informs him about his 'god' thing. Has he ever done so? 4/ Given that he is obviously devoted to that 'god' thing, in the video, it is fairly silly to try and claim that he does not believe his 'god' thing did it, when that is exactly what that 'god' thing supposedly claims. 5/ I think a better effort is needed to try and justify Tour's absurd claims.

@@niblick616 the problem is you're mixing his beliefs into his science. You are saying because he believes these things he isn't allowed to analyze only the chemistry on its own merit. That is unfair and intellectually dishonest. If he says the chemistry doesn't work, he has the credentials and has earned the right to say so. God has nothing to do with his claims that the chemistry proposed to create life doesn't work. His personal beliefs should not be what he is judged on here.
