@@iwagen3746 I passed the AT-SA exam with no experience or prep but if you can afford to take some basic online tutorial courses its definitely worth it. Research the different components of the test and practice those skills. Best of luck!

Some people say ATC is more stressful than being an airline pilot. Would you agree?

what is the process or steps to train? I heard training takes 3+ years sometimes, and with the shortages happening, I am curious if there are ways to reduce time to certify?

2 to 3 months at academy but then it depends what facility you go to how long it takes to certify there could be 1 to 2 years.

Problem is money, here in the uk anyway you get your training paid for whilst being paid a wage to train as a controller. You end up paying 100k+ to become a commercial pilot

The biggest issue with this idea is that the vast majority of pilots aren't government employees. ATC is a government job, hence the government supplying the training. They also go through one heck of a selection process. Military pilots are also government employees and they too go through a massive selection process. There just isn't enough money budgeted to the FAA to train every pilot out there.

If the FAA was in charge of hiring and training pilots, the pilot shortage would be even worse. Controller staffing is at a literal all time low right now. Many facilities have mandatory OT, shifts running short anyway, etc...

I worked with a woman who was FROM. RUSSIA. No idea how she got through, but this girl grew up in the USSR.

Yeah it kinda sucks for the first month while you’re in basics. But it’s a little better once you go to OKC and receive your per diem for meals and incidentals in addition to your salary.

@@Resiliently20 okay okay, thanks for the reply, can you explain to me in detail how the process works.I thought you were in OKC for the duration of the entire training. Where are you for the first month? How long are you in OKC for, what happens immediately after you've passed. Do you have a choice in where they place you or is it just random. any tips and suggestions? How was the training? Is it extremely stressful and difficult? Ugh, it's so nerve wracking. I'm an A&P and that process was super easy. This seems like I'm training to be an astronaut 😭. My TOL says "NTE 13 months", what does that mean. Sorry for all the questions but there's very limited information on this process. If I do successfully complete it, I'm going make a very detailed video to help others.

@@youngeshmoney so the reason why the offer letter says “NTE 13 months” is because you’re basically a probationary employee for the first year. Which ultimately means your employment is temporary, and the FAA can terminate your employment for a number of things such as failure to pass your basics end of course test, failure to complete training in OKC, or behavioral things such as getting a DUI, etc… essentially you wanna be on your P’s and Q’s for the first year.

@@Resiliently20 oh okay got it, I thought that meant training was 13 months. How about pay, I'm guessing that only goes up from $34k after the 13 months? That's going to be my biggest deciding factor. I know it's only temporary, but idk if I can survive off 30k😭, that's a 60% salary cut🤦‍♂️

@@youngeshmoney also here’s what happens after your accept your TOL, eventually (took about 5 months for me) you will receive a CIL email with instructions on how to complete your medical and security clearance and your psychological evaluation. Once you’ve been cleared on all of that then you will receive a Firm offer letter (FOL) that will have a date of when you start basic training. Basics used to be held at the Academy in OKC but ever since COVID they’ve been doing it in a virtual classroom environment. So you’ll be attending basics online for about 1 month and then take a test that you have to pass in order to move on to initial qualification training at the FAA academy in Oklahoma City.
