So ironic that the Academy facilitate this talk and yet, Carol wasn't even nominated for Best Picture, and in fact, didn't win ANY of the categories it was nominated for. It's 2018 and I am still salty.

it's a shame already that it wasn't nominated, but when you look at the best picture nominees of that year it's so absurd that it's almost funny.

This movie is such a masterpiece! Nothing is made randomly, every detail, music, color, look, smile, touch, word and silence, every take is so meaningful! You can watch it 20 times and each time you will find a new meaning to every thing! The LGBTQ+ community really needs a film like this to be truly recognize! ♥

I have seen this beautiful film three times so far. Cannot describe how wonderful it is. Todd Haynes has delivered us a magnificent film and everyone connected with it should be commended, especially Cate & Rooney who were magical in it! Why wasn't the film and Todd given Oscar nominations? It certainly was as good, if not better then any of the other nominations! How very sad.

+Elaine Lotcpeich its heaven..i felt that..i want to be in love again..this movie really moves me..the soundtrack..brilliant..:)
@rhyfeddu8 жыл бұрын
+Elaine Lotcpeich Agreed, but I'd put it even more strongly than "sad", I'd say it was appalling. How embarrassing for the Academy that the best reviewed movie of the year didn't make their cut, when they had nomination room to spare. But we have this movie forever and that can't be taken away from us. The Academy sure is stepping in it lately, overall, and are courting obsolescence.
@juliok89238 жыл бұрын
+Elaine Lotcpeich Sad and unexpected indeed. I didn't expect the Academy to not recognize at least the director if not the film itself. I guess 'noisy, aggressive, blood-driven' is the way to go for them. Subtlety not so much....

A MASTERPIECE in every sense of the word : the PERFORMANCES, the direction, the photography, the soundtrack.....Everyhting, just everything was FLAWLESS! Shame on the Academy for not having given any acknowledment to this film. They should be ashamed of themselves for having ignored and put such a beautiful piece of art in the corner.

I can imagine Rooney would feel quite intimidated around Cate, I mean, who wouldn’t be? But that’s how they make such great chemistry, because when you meet someone who makes you feel so nervous and anxious but want to just be with them, that’s really loving someone. I really think this is Rooney and Cate in a nutshell.

Carol is an immediate classic, carrying old hollywood glory in our cynical times, for a various of important reasons. I have to say right away that Haynes wrote history with the last scene. Its kind of provinsional (although understandable because of its and their excuisite beaty) most of the viewers to talk about the sex scene, when the last scene proves that nudity has not to do with taking your clothes off. It has to do with the bold share of deep feelings and in such rare and magic moments camera, too clever and too magic not too, captures them. Welldone mr Haynes! Apart from that it was said that without preaching this movie broadens the percpective of what means to be a human despite, beyond and due to your otherness,a kind of "Unheimlich" that functions as a perpetual Messiah for Humanity. To be able to Accept and to Resist Commonsensicals broaden our perspectives and our Horizons in such conservative times that at least in some parts of the world there is an urge to fight backwithout preaching. Although not directly related as a combination of good literature and cinema it reminds us in such a powerfull way that the 'power' of art is to keep the "bet" of human nature alive. So it doesnt matter (well it does...) if in real life Antigone will be caged in the cave again and again all over the world,what it matters is that in pages and in stages she will stand up and fight Back Creo,the Cynical Power, carrying the message of another example, It doesnt matter if Hamlett has a tragic end it matters that he dares to hold his scull and set the important questions. Even if Trojan Women, the Different Women or Human Beings, in the wars will be raped inprisoned or killed,there will be a Euripides to transcend his national religious or gender limits and give voice tothe voiceless.This function, in different Qualities and Quantities, its still out there in some pieces of Art. Carol is not Citizen Kane or Dogville but in its own path is one of them. They made History. Academy should make History too.Give them the Oscar(s)

That last scene was so breathtaking but, really the merit belongs to Patricia Highsmith, Phyllis Nagy wisely kept it in her script and Todd Haynes followed through. It ' s one of those moments in cinema that makes you grateful to be able to witness- and Cate ability to deliver exactly. Yet I know somebody- a young thing-I wish it had another ending. I told her That was perfection! Sad that many many people skip on the lesbian and don' t appreciate a human story maybe even more than a love story, because who knows, ten years from that end may be over between them, but their humanity, the pain they suffered because they assumed who they are and who they love is Universal.

I want to support this film in theatres but it's R21 and I'm a couple years too young. BUT I WILL BUY THE DVD! such films really deserve more recognition. In my country I have seen ZERO promotion for this film because of the homosexual content. There isn't even a poster for it in the cinemas here even though it is currently showing.

+Linds Tee same from where I'm from. it's a pity - there was a furore within the community here over Carol and The Danish Girl being shown in the local theatres and this even after having most of the scenes that seemed too vulgar for the minute minds of the people here being cut. I just felt sorry and still am for those of them who have yet to watch this beautiful film... it's unfortunate
