The standup comic chatted with Access Daily's Mario Lopez and Kit Hoover about how he found breakout success over social media last year after nearly considering a new career path. He also reflected on the first onstage moment of his that went viral and the gift he gave to his mom after making it big. Yea, crowd work is great. But many newer/younger comedians have trash writing with solid crowd work. Definitely not gonna cut it. I could do woth zero crowd work. I can't do bad writing.

@@sunshinetx36 50%. Crowdwork is only halfway. Most comics don't need to lean on the audience for material. Rife isn't even the best at crowdwork. Oakerson, Dave Attell, Stavros and many others do it better.

Finally someone who acknowledged that even though he’s having a meteoric rise to fame, he’s been at it for over a decade. So many people keep saying he’s blew up so fast, and while he ultimately has, he’s also been at it since he was 15. So in reality it took him 12 years to get this type of exposure. He deserves all of it, and I hope he keeps climbing. As for that 70s show, I’m right there with him, I grew up. With it and I’m the same age as the cast is, so that show will always be special

He's like a younger Bill Burr in that aspect. Burr's been doing it for 25 years or more and took a long time to get huge. This kid is god tier at crowd work, makes it even funnier than actual material comedians have. He'll go down a legend and be placed with the greats.

It’s because his improv is absolutely hilarious. I can’t come up with jokes that quick. Matt has the best responses and comes up with them so quick. He’s never mean, just poking fun and the crowds love it. My husband and I love this type of humor he has so I hope we get to see a show live! Congrats of the new found fame!

8/26/23 I'm 61 yrs old and first saw one of Matt Rife videos on KZfaq earlier this year. So So FUNNY, Hilarious, and I instantly thought of the great comedians from when I was his age. Not fair to him to say he's like this one or that one, he simply and easily fits into the group of great comedians no matter the generation. He belongs on the best of the best list for comedians. This "kid" is one of the greats with hopefully many decades to come yet.
