few things :) love the vid - Zinq fork, dont tight the bolts to hard.... because they go from both sides.... my fork (got the same one) the carbon cracked a bit under the presure from the bolts.... (also my bike came with all the bolts, even some spares) - got also same multitool..... get rid of the chainbreaker now you have a belt .... its one of the heavyest items on the tool. - rol of tape.... good way to store it to wind it around the base of your mini pump. saves a bit of room - the ajustible wrenge its a very heavy tool to take with you dunno where you use it for but there is problerly a lighter alternative for it, that tool alone is proberly the wight difference between the P12 and P18 gearbox :XD - I also picked up 2 swalbe aerothan innertubes for spare on my next adventure (the reseseller told me there not realy reliable he had few bikes in his store with the inner tubes.... 2 deflaited in a week time while the rest had no problems) groeten uit NL!

I just mentioned on previous video in this channel, that carbon fork isn't suitable for hanging front panniers, And you just justify my claim. This carbon is suitable only for light bike-packing.

@@Cycle-Tourer I use them with Salsa Anything cages, and a 3Liter bag on it its around 1,3kg each side I dont think thats a heavy load and the Ortlieb front pack isn't that big eather so there wont be a huge load on it, and I used it for around 8k of bickpacking in Iceland/norway/swis/germany on 60% of gravel. my only complain is because the bolts go through the fork and the carbon flexes... when you tighten the bolts there is no stop and you will crush the carbon by just turning the bolts..... and I used a torkwrench.... my opinion the fork is perfect for it :)

@@paulverweij6348 You just emphasis my claim. The carbon is cracked from side impact or side mechanical pressure.

Thanks for the constructive feedback, Paul! Wanted to share some thoughts on what you mentioned: - Yes-the Cinq fork needs to be handled with care, but I’ve now had three different carbon forks and they’ve all held up with whatever amount of weight I carried on them… so I’m not that concerned about these. After a bumpy loop of Ibiza the fork mounts are still tight and in place! - multi tool, great idea! I do still have some bikes with chains at home so I’ll keep the breaker on for convenience. - and thanks for the tape tip! Clever one! - I think I’m going to discard the wrench ;) - yeah, the aerothan is not as resistant as other tubes, but having it as a light spare for emergencies is a good user case for me! Greetings back from Spain!

What pedal is that? Clip on one side but really wide? Do clip pedals help at all? Safety liability in some ways if you have to quickly unclip, no? Plus need to carry/wear a shoes with cleats adds baggage. Thay could be used for P1.18 ;)

Good question! I'm just so comfortable with my tubes, no issues with patching them from time to time. I also like that it's much cleaner and I don't have to worry in remote environments. But coincidence has it that B and I will try tubeless soon, for the first time, on our first 2023 trip. Let's see how it goes...

Never tried handlebars with backsweep? And loop or bull horns for variations?

Yah. broom handle bars are awful for both wrists and your back. I have full 80d sweep bars from the 1970s. They have the original plastic/ vinyl grips that NEVER go mushy like the horrible new style ones made like tires. NUTS. I often have my right hand forward near to the bend.

Hi Tristan great video. I dont know if XL or L is the best for me (I am 188 cm). I saw you bourght a XL Bike. How tall are you?

Yes, that’s right! I’m 1.89 and the XL fits me very well. If you need a second opinion, you can also call up or email Tout Terrain to give exact measurements of your length.

Real nice clear video. Glad your bike is performing great. 33 lbs is a flyweight compared to my overbuilt custom with disc Rohloff14 and SA XL-FDD dyno drum brake front wheel. LOL. No way I would trade it for a Pinion tho. Those top tube slopes more than an 40 mm are a poor design IMO. Couple nitpicks. IMO Always have a lock washer under the bolt head, and or have the bolt go thru and have a nylock nut. For 100% sure it won't come loose and quite a bit stronger support of the frame as well. 6 mm bolts are 1 mm threaded. 8 mm bolts have either 1 mm or 1.5 mm threads. I have those on my DIY steel stem. I stay the hell away from gravel. LOL.

Weer een mooie video! Kun je aub de referenties geven van beide bidonhouders (die voor je trangia en voor die 1.5 liter fles)? Ik wil mijn volgende fietsreis meer water meenemen op mijn Santos Travelmaster 3+ maar ik heb een nieuwe bidonhouder nodig voor mijn nieuwe Nalgene waterfles van 1.5 liter. Die heeft een grotere diameter en past niet in mijn ‘gewone’ bidonhouder. Groetjes en succes met je nieuwe fiets!

Ha Erik, dat is de flessenhouder van Cinq! Super ding. De andere is van een ander merk en helaas niet meer in omloop. Maar je kan makkelijk een soort ‘anything cage’ vinden waar je met behulp van een Voile strap flessen van verschillende maten mee kunt nemen.

Do 29 inch tire and 27.5 inch tire fit on the same wheel? Only difference in thickness/rise radially?

That’s right! It’s the Expedition Cage from Cinq (Tout Terrain) and it’s darn handy for carrying my 1.5L bottle…!

Which exact model is this Tubus Logo(Classic/EVO)? And there exactly to get them in Spain?

This is the Logo Classic! I’d say that purchasing on Bike24 with shipment to Spain is a good option. Otherwise, just contact Hebie Tubus Racktime customer service to ask which Spanish shop stocks this rack.

This is a fantastic video -- thank you ,Tristan! Can you check the thread pitch on the rear through axel of the Outback for me? My wife and I would like to buy a pair of these bikes for cycletouring with our dog. We pull him in a trailer attached to the rear axle, and I just need to make sure we can get a compatible axle. I've emailed TT, but I can't get a response. Would be super grateful if you could check it for me.

Thank you! I’ve checked with TT, they tell me the thread pitch is 1.5mm. I hope that’s enough to pull your dog and trailer, because this bike is such a joy to ride. Any other questions, feel free to email me 👍🏼

@@tristanbogaard Tristan -- you're a legend! This was the one only open question we needed answered to pull the trigger on a pair of Outbacks. Thank you! Once they arrive, we're going to hunt down a bomb proof kickstand. I know there's no mounting plate, so I'll focus on clamp-on versions. If you have any leads, please let me know.

@@tristanbogaard Weird, I don't think so. Normal 6 mm bolts have 1 mm threads. 5 mm have .8 threads.

There is no different between the overall ratio range of 12 or 18 speeds. Both of them slightly above 600%. That's far better than Shimano Alfine 400%. Your decision to use the 12 speeds is clever one. About Smart Sam tire. My opinion: it's not good tire. Very heavy about 1 kg and too wide.. And the advertisement in Schwalbe website about this tire is as it is: Only Advertisement. You will notice all these problems when you will soon start new trip.

Thanks for your feedback! The gearbox has indeed been great so far. Additionally, I’ve just completed a loop of Ibiza on a ton of bumpy, rocky trails and actually really enjoyed the Smart Sam tires. They’re heavy, sure, but they also provided a stable and secure ride whichever surface I was on. Looking forward to riding more routes on them!

Schwalbe Smart Sam are not puncture proof, weak tires. Only Schwalbe Marathon Plus MTB 100% trouble-free.

Perhaps. But we've had just a few flats during the last 9 months, and the Marathon Plus tires wouldn't have been a good fit for our preferred pavement. Hence, we stick with Smart Sam tires!

@@tristanbogaard because i can find a chain for 20 bucks in any country in the world but when the pinion gear box goes down its a 1500 buck flight home and months of waiting. Plus one spare front clog in Canada dollars is $250.00 bucks. 250.00 bucks is enough money to replace a chain in almost ever country from Seattle Washington to Ushuaia. Let’s not forget at least one spare 135.00 buck spare belt. I guess that’s one of the reasons Rohloff and chain is still KING! You will never see a gates and pinion on a Tumbleweed bike. Try find spare parts for gates and pinion in Colombia or Ecuador. 7 pounds for a 18 speed pinion gear box and a frame that has to be built around that boat anchor.
