I revisited 2pacalypse Now today and was pleasantly surprised. I think it gets overlooked. But it perfectly embodies who he is. It has more jams than people realize and it’s so amazingly political, social, spiritual, timeless, interesting. Powerful.

Technical is not limited to one approach. Rakim, Treach, Twista, and yes Pac are all technical but all expressed and prioritized it in different ways. Pac had mad different flows - check the diversity: Same Ol Song, I Get Around, If I Die Tonight, How Do U Want It, Holla At Me, Hit Em Up, just to name a few. I could literally go on all night.

I must be in the minority. I always preferred Biggie's verse on Dead Wrong. Em overdid it to me. When it comes to Tupac, maybe Jay-Z was behind how he was discredited. That man does all kinds of dirt and pulls all kinds of strings behind the scenes. Just a thought 🤷♀

When people talk about being lyrical in hip hop it often frustrates me. Too often people define being lyrical to how many multis and double entendres one can squeeze out in one breath. I define it as to how soulful and compelling an MC is in delivering their thoughts in rap form whether thru complex cadences and huge words or more simple and straightforward means. By that rubic, I consider a Pac, a Scarface, or an Ice Cube every bit as much of a lyricist as more technically complex artists like Nas or a Rakim or a Black Thought.

I dont know for the life of me know how people cant see that lyricism should mean the topics that you are talking about and the meaning behind it. Not these thesaurus rappers like Jay Electronica who trick people into thinking theyre better than they are coz they decided to rhyme prayer with onomatopoeia. People mix up flow and lyricism too.

Biggie lost points with me talking reckless about children, and other vulgar, suspect lyrics. Biggie was an excellent lyricist, but he’s overrated overall. Small body of work. Tupac and Nas over him all day.

For example when I think about the best freestyle and punch lines artist Jadakiss big L Lloyd bank$ &cassidy come into my mind then lyrical capability kool g rap Eminem and definitely the best Nas!
