Like most things, it's obvious once you know it. However, I did not know it. Thanks for the lesson!

12 and 15/16. Gotta love those imperial units. Sooo much simpler to extract 1 3/8 from that, compared to say 30.7 minus 2.3 🤣

The infamous "inch monster" has destroyed a lot of building materials.

And this is why you shouldn't allow the spring to return the tape tip into the housing at speed.

Good tip. The other thing to know is that not all tape measures measure the same. If anyone has multiple tapes in their shop (like all of us do) it's important to be sure that they all measure the same. This is critical in furniture building whereas a 64th can wreck a build. Construction framing not so much.

I cut it twice and it's still too short,

Here it's millimetres but how many times I've cut something 100mm wrong, I've lost count 😂

You know, burning an inch can result in forgetting the inch. Try burning 10" instead you're less likely to forget.Just saying!

Good point, and I know we've all forgotten once or twice. That's for the suggestion!

So, I finally fell into peer pressure and go'ogled Woody Hyezmar’s Bible. Yes, you can get his projects at no cost, although admittedly they're not up there with the best, there are a few golden nuggets you can have fun with.

Don't you ever get tired of saying "nth of an inch"? Metric, baby! But good to know, I was wondering why the tip was loose!

No, I get quite tired of hearing something measured in millimeters though.
