Accused Killer Begs for ‘Lethal Injection’ After Murdering Mom, 4-Year-Old Daughter: Police

Daniel Callihan is accused of killing Callie Brunett in Louisiana before abducting her 4-year-old and 6-year-old daughters and taking them to Mississippi. Authorities tracked down Callihan in Jackson and found a gruesome scene. Law&Crime’s Sierra Gillespie breaks it down.

Louisiana State Police issued an amber alert for the two children after the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office discovered Brunett dead in her home. Authorities said Callihan was in an "on-and-off relationship" with Brunett. When detectives tracked Callihan down in Jackson, Brunett’s 4-year-old was found murdered. Callihan confessed to the crimes, stating “I have no reason for what I did. All I want to say is that I was sober.”

I have BPD as well, and this is exactly why it is so stigmatized. I would never even have a nightmare about doing something like this, let alone actually do it. Mental illness doesn’t make you an evil monster. You either are or you aren’t, regardless of whether or not you have a mental illness. Rhetoric like this makes people who are uneducated think that everyone with BPD is a monster. That’s not true.. We are not these evil manipulators that people make us out to be. If you’re evil, you’re evil, mental illness does not make you a horrible person.

Mike King was a fantastic guest and he is obviously great at what he does. His messages of not buying into conspiracies and remaining patient despite our brains demand for quick answers is not only deeply important for crime, but also media literacy, all of our personal relationships, and most certainly around election time when narratives are being spun in every direction. His ability to be grounded in facts in logic while also remaining warm and compassionate is commendable.

Even if someone doesn't resist, mandatory appeals, legal reviews, and bureaucratic delays mean it usually takes much longer than 3 years. The system is designed to ensure that every aspect of the case is thoroughly examined, which adds significant time.

I kind of wish the gentleman you were speaking with about the case wasn't creepily smiling as he spoke. People who have BPD are not human traffickers. They don't sell their girlfriends or their kids. People with BPD have a lot of love for children and care more for people who are more vulnerable than themselves.
