installed an extra 8gb of ram today - took all of about 5 seconds to do and now my upgrading project is cpmplete. My cheap little Acer now boots up and connects to the internet in 9 seconds - unbelievable. The new ips panel and 500 gb ssd were also totally worth doing. Thanks again for your guidance on all these pieces GT.

Really appreciate your videos. I bought the E15 E5-575G-57D4 in part because of your reviews. It's a wolf in sheep's clothing and I am super happy with it. Foolishly, I ordered the RAM you had linked before I had the laptop in hand. My unit came with Hynix 8GB 1Rx8 PC4 PC4-2400T DDR4 model number: HMA81GS6AFR8N-UH instead. So at least some units are shipping with 2400mhz. Just a word to the wise if anyone else is going to pull the trigger on a RAM upgrade before you put eyes inside the computer.

Hello John, I own my Acer E5-575G-53U1 which has same specification of memory module as you described in comment. I would like to also upgrade my memory to 16GB unfortunately I am wordering about speed (MHz) as Task Manager is showing that my SK Hyinx memory module is running at 2133 MHz but I checked with CPU-Z & RAMMon software and there is DDR4-2400 displayed in both apps. Additionaly is showing RAMMon that DDR4-2400 has PC4-19200 bandwith. So if you can write me which memory module you bought and works with Hyinx module it would be highly appreciated. I've had this laptop for 2 years now and I have many customizations to it and spec wise it is a really good computer. Only thing is a few of the screw holes in the bottom of my laptop have stripped from slight cracks in the housing. Plus, I have chewed through two screens because the display it came with got a little damaged so I upgraded to the IPS one you recommended last year and started to backlight bleed in parts of the center of it. Other those issues, this computer has made a nice hackintosh computer after switching out the wifi/bluetooth card for a brcm one.

I had upgraded my screen to the same IPS as well and had it fail after a year. At first I thought it was a fault with the screen or the computer and ordered another, but the same issue happened. It just blacked out one day after a month or two of minor flickering here and there and I spoke to a friend of mine that works in computer repair and he mentioned that it's difficult to upgrade a low gamut TN panel to a high gamut IPS screen because they consume more power and can conflict with other hardware and that shortens the life of the screen. I don't know how accurate that information is, but with what I experienced and what I'm reading from yours that seems at least a possibility, which is very disappointing because the replacement screen was so much better than the default screen.

Ever thought about "under-volting" the cpu and replacing the thermal compound for lower cpu/gpu temperatures? Dave Lee just posted a great video showing the benefits of doing this. Showing a pretty dramatic drop in cpu temps and about 3 more fps in Overwatch. It's kinda a nick pick of mine, but on this machine I can definitely see the benefits. I'm receiving this computer tomorrow and I'm interested to see how accessible the cpu is. I'm a big nerd on keeping things cool along with increasing performance and I'm sure there's others like me. (Given the popularity of this computer) I think it would make a cool video, but it might be too difficult and risky to do. Thanks for the videos dude and reading this long comment.

+Joseph Baitz I would say that that is a cool idea but fairly risky to do. As you will have to pretty much open up the entire laptop to get to the motherboard that means taking out all the screws off the bottom making sure you know how to get into it and more importantly making sure that you know how to put it all back together. It would be a cool project but I can live with the fact that I don't get that extra three frames per second in OverWatch or any game for that matter. This laptop has done a great job for the price point and there is no need in my opinion to do anything that in depth for the risk of screwing up the laptop. I'm sure there might be others out there that would love to tear it up and do a video on it. But so far this laptop is a solid performer and I personally wouldn't want to risk it. I hope you enjoy your laptop I have other videos coming up as in how to install and configure an extra hard drive and also add a third hard drive in place of the DVD drive.

+Joseph Baitz sure you could probably undervolt the CPU and the ram with external programs such as MSI afterburner and such that might be something to test with but as far as the thermal paste on the CPU that would be a bit tricky to do.

Hello! I installed a new ram last night. My laptop’s mobo runs at 2133 mhz, I installed a 2400mhz ram alongside the old 2133mhz as I I heard that it will run fine since it will run at lowest speed it can run. It was all working perfectly last night but now I’m experiencing crashes and BSOD’s occasionally and I dont know whats causing it.

easiest way to figure out if it is the new stick of ram is to remove the old one and just run it if you continue to get errors with just the new stick of ram that is the culprit. if you do not then running the two together is the culprit. Let me know what happens.

+Frank Sinatra it is possible but you would have to remove the entire back panel to get to the battery. Then it should just be a matter of unplugging the battery from the mainboard and installing a new battery.

+Jay Hummer 32GB of RAM is a lot of RAM most gaming computers only really need 8 gigabytes of RAM 16GB is a comfortable number for gaming and even possibly for rendering and AutoCAD programs stuff like that. What RAM does is it acts as a buffer between the hard drive and the CPU and stores information so that it can pass it along quicker. So what more RAM will translate into is your computer will do things quicker with more RAM in general it has nothing to do with space but just performance-wise

Yes just buy a set of 2 , 16gb sticks and pop them in should be fine. Although it would be costly as 32GB sets of DDr4 are like 200 bucks or so.

Whenever possible I try not to mix different speeds of ram. That is not to say it will not work it will of course default to the lowest speed of the 2. You can use different companys that shouldn't be a problem.

Just curious, as this set up is so spec loaded, why not max out the 32 gbs DDR4 sodimms, why do you say it's overkill? With a kaby lake i7 it would be interesting to put in dual 16 ripjaw sticks. Also with the GeForce 940mx is the AU OPTRONICS B156HAN01.1 LAPTOP LCD SCREEN 15.6" Full-HD DIODE the highest resolution display upgrade or is there something more robust? -- I'm trying to beat the performance of an XPS 9560 just to see how close I can on a unit that cost almost 1/3 the price.

As far as the RAM goes : 98% of people will never come close to using 32GB of RAM in a system (especially if your just gaming). That's why I say it's overkill. You can of course do it, but in my opinion it is a waste of money... lol For the screen, that screen is the best option I could come up with as a high quality replacement yes.

+Indus Man can't tell you that as I have a different model. If you have the model number of the original 720p panel you can look it up and see how much power it draws and then compare it to the 1080p and see if it draws more power. If it does then it's going to affect battery power if it doesn't then it won't.

+Indus Man battery is internal as far as I know there is no upgrade for it. As far as the screen download hwinfo64 and run it. Go to display tab and tell me the model of the display screen installed.

it will help give games the extra "overhead" which "can" help with loading screens ect... As for FPS increase that is almost totally on the GPU.

Interesting concept for people that have traditional HDDs BUT if you have an SSD you will not see much difference. In the future you will see Optane SSD drives, at that time it will be worth it. Annnd not to mention you will need an Intel 7th gen processor to make it all work to begin with. so all you folks still with a 6th gen Intel processor can't even use it.

You won't void the warranty, there are no stickers (except a piece of tape) to replace the screen. As long as you don;t break anything you can always swap the original screen back if you ever need your warranty. Watch my video.

Hey great video I have a question. I'm getting this laptop soon and plan on upgrading the ram to 24GB total. I'm looking at this one m.newegg.com/products/N82E16820232149 Is it compatible? If so does it matter that one stick would be 16gb and the other 8gb? Would it cause any problems, interference of any sort? I've read somewhere that having one of higher gb would result in one working more than the other? I'm new to laptops so advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

That particular model should fit and work yes, my advice is to do 2 sticks of the same size and speed for dual channel operation though.
