Anyone else watch loads of gaming laptop reviews but then not buy anything?

Watching this in July of 2021, I truly appreciate the build quality (& pricing) of the Helios 300. Still, I have to think that in 2017 (i.e. when this video was made), Lenovo also came out with gaming series of notebooks (i.e. Legion series) which probably helped drive down the prices of gaming notebooks from Acer, Dell, Asus, etc.

What happened to the famous thumbs if you liked it, subs if you loved it outro ??

DAVE! Eluktronics in the US sells a Clevo laptop (N850hp6) with a GTX 1060 and a 7700 HQ for $1000 in the same shell as the Sabre 15! I just bought one, put a 120 Hz panel in it, and added another 8GB RAM and my total was $1175. Incredible deal for a power laptop with a 120 Hz screen.

When last year you had to pay $2000 for a GTX 970M (Maxwell version) when now you get GTX 1060M (Pascal version) for ~$1000 and you also get better CPU? Good thing mine was broken so I'm getting my money back 😏

I’m using my Helios 300 for about 1,5 year now and trust me, this is one of the best gaming laptops of them all at that price. The only thing that sucks in this laptop (and probably on most of the gaming laptops) is temperature... But obviously u can buy some cooling mats to help your laptop just a little bit but you’ll still feel some heat on your fingers while playing. (Sometimes u can even use your laptop as a stove and make some good meal, it mostly depends on the owner and how u treat your laptop)

I have the i5 7300hq GTX 1060 variant of this. After 2 years its still a solid choice. Bought a NVME SSD since it only came with a slow HDD now its blazing fast. I enjoy playing with my new 144hz Predator Monitor haha. Tho if I had the budget I would get the 2019 model

Dave Please make a guide video on changing display panels of Laptops and elaborate things like 30 pin and 40 pin connectors, eDP lanes. It will be helpful because sometimes people stuck to a laptop that has bad display as this one has. Your video will help us in replacing panels.

Can't afford squad

I currently have this laptop and for a gtx 1060 its not that bad, however there are a few shortfalls for the laptop: -256 GB storage is small for serious gamers and persons who want to store heavily, but you can easily add a TB or even bigger HDD or SSD if you want. -At 6 pounds, a few might say it is too heavy, but this weight and form factor are crucial to facilitate it's advance cooling system. - Very flashy and gamer looking.. What do we expect from a gaming laptop though ? - It get's smudged easily from finger prints etc. Overall: It is an excellent pick for the money for any one who is into serious gaming, video editing, graphic design, CAD etc and is okay with it's appearance.

Just ordered mine after looking around, the temps should be lower keeping the boost sense on, only downside might be dust cleaning like you said and screen brightness. I think the model is fine for the price point. So we'll find out this weekend.

Watched your review for about 50 times, and finally got this laptop today. It's great, thanks dave.

This is a pretty insane price for a 1060. However, it is important to note the reputation that Acer has with their laptops. I recently bought the Aspire VX and I was playing Overwatch at 40-80 fps on low settings, turns out there was a problem with the hdd and I had to send for repair. I also went to another Store whom claimed that Acer had the most returns due to faulty components. This is from my own personal experiences with Acer, just something to consider before buying at this cheap price.

Why companies can't make an affordable laptop with a GTX 1050ti which is pretty light so that I can carry it to college. XPS 15 and the Razer Balde are way too expensive. Hopefully Dave will make a 2017 version of the back to school guide D:

It is worth it. If you buy this one, first things you gotta do if you love gaming is to download intel extreme tuning utility and undervolt, because you are gonna experience thermal issues ( I got 95 C°). Second thing that has to be done is understanding turbo boosting, have a look at how to manage ghz at different needs so you don't have to experience lag at low battery mode or playing hard games. It took me a while to understand these options, but I'm not regretting having this notebook anymore.

The laptop is now 1250 just when i was about to buy it increases in price

I saw this thing and the Nitro 5 at $905 on Amazon (sale). Both of them were the i7-8750h, gtx 1050ti models with 256 gig ssd's. I got the Nitro 5 one day before the predator dropped down to 900 dollars too! I just decided to keep the Nitro 5 then. I'm loving it so far. A CPU undervolt helped a lot with the thermals.

I've just ordered it on Amazon, but I would really like to know if the brightness is that bad. Under normal indoors lighting is it still comfortablely visible or do you have to get close up and squint. I don't expect it to outshine the sun on a clear summer day, but I usually use my computer in a fairly well lit environment, and having insufficient brightness settings is kind of a bother.

Honestly I just want to see a 7700HQ/1060 laptop that's professional looking and not tiny (Razer Blade). Like an XPS 17 or bigger razer offering. Anyone else here agree?

watching this video on this exact laptop... I highly recommend it if some one wants a good gaming laptop. it is super fast and runs every game on high graphics with no issues... the fans can get loud sometimes when it is running some demanding games but a pair of head phones fixes that. :D

In your Nitro 5 video you said it had bad thermals. The Predator Helios 300 has the same thermal design and while the Nitro 5 had a 1050ti, the same design is this Helios 300 is used to cool and even more powerful 1060. BIASED. You didn't even talk about thermals in this video.

Best thing to do is get this and a 120 hz replacement screen as its fairly easy to replace. Then you can get anywhere from 80-100 fps in most games and sometimes a full 120hz also the brightness and color depth will be better

other players have been stating overheat problem. Do I need a cooling stand? What is the hottest temperature it get playing games? Do you know how to much heat can shorten laptop life expectancy?
