I purchased this particular 165hz monitor in November last year...but in your OSD menu Freesync Premium is available but mine shows only Freesync. I registered the product with Acer providing S/N and it's VG240YS..still why this difference?

Superb review mate! One question though- 50% of the websites say that this is an LCD display while the other half say it's an LED display. But LCD can also be an LED as all LEDs are LCDs but this isn't true vice versa. And I received the monitor just today and the retailer's sticker on the box mentions the backlight type to be LED. So can you please tell me whether the backlight is LED(i.e. LCD Display with LED backlight) or CCFL(i.e. LCD display with CFL backlight)?

Hey bro. So it has to be connected to a pc to go upto 165hz. Because 144hz is default and it overclocks to 165hz only on a display port and not HDMI. Since Xbox one X has only HDMI you'll be able to achieve only 144hz. Please do subscribe if you've found this useful. Will be much appreciated.

What’s the difference in 24Y and 24YS? If it support freesync does it mean it support GSYNC too?

It's the same thing. It's doesn't have the gsync feature but it is supported if you turn it on.

It's suitable for everything except highly competitive gaming. Great for single-player games and movies. IPS panel is the better option.

I have a nvidia gpu, so will buying this monitor is a total waste for me? Because the Nvidia G sync monitors available don't have features like this monitor and have a higher price. This is the best monitor in the market as I reviewed under budget and I wanna get it. That's why I was thinking what should I do?

You will be able to minimize the visual tearing in games by just turning on G-sync on your Nvidia control panel. Although it doesn't say it comes with G-sync but it definitely does support it. You can go for it now problems...Pls subscribe if you have found it useful.

I'm planning to buy a budget monitor & was very confused with the monitors available in the market, your review cleared my doubts and information provided are very clear mate. Keep it on the good work, you're doing. :) However, I do have a query regarding the connectivity, since the manufacturer does not provide the HDMI cable including with the box, can we use a standard HDMI cable to achieve the 144hz, or does it require any specific type of version to support the high refresh rate? (I have a spare cable, which was provided with the set-top box connection)

Glad you liked it Praveen. So they only give a display cable with the monitor. And only that will help you go from 144hz to 165hz. Yes you can use a normal HDMI but that will be fixed to 144hz. If you don't have a display port on your graphic card, then HDMI is a good option. Thanks for the sub btw😀

I purchased a ₹150 HDMI cable.. that I don't know whether it's 1.4 or 2.0 but it gives me 165hz while gaming and at normal use ... I cross checked with ufo screen refresh rate test and also with inbuilt screen screen refresh rate number.

Hdmi can only give you 144hz. Amazon basics hdmi cable is good.

I don't think this monitor is needed if you're not going to game. It has a 165hz refresh rate which is wasted as PS4 cannot produce so much FPS. So best thing would be to get a monitor with lower refresh rate or go with the Acer nitro 75hz model. You will be saving money. And about the HDMI splitting thing, I think I saw a video about it on Linus tech tips. I'll see if I can find it and link it here. Also a sub to the channel would be great 😀

Hello, I'm using this monitor with a PS4. How can I change the colour calibration settings on it? Will connecting it to my laptop, changing the settings, and then connecting it to my PS4 work?

Yes that'll work. But theres a chance that when you connect it back to the PS4, it'll revert back to default settings. Try finding a way to calibrate colors using the ps4 settings instead.

Only difference is that YS has a 165hz refresh rate screen and YP has 144hz refresh rate. So you can choose whatever is less costly at the time of purchase.

My laptop is acer predator helios 300(2018) model number -ph315-51 ,I have checked the manual and internet sources too.... I wasn't able to get the hdmi version of my laptop, but am planning to but acer vg240ys 165hz monitor, the issue is my laptop does not have a dp port, I have got to use a hdmi cable, will I be getting 165 hz output, please reply to this anyone... I personally use the chiptronex Kranos and I'm satisfied with it. It's a membrane keyboard with a mechanical feel. But if you want other options then checkout my 20 must have gaming laptop accessories video where I talk about other keyboards.

I would suggest going with the one I have the vg240ys. There are a few reasons why. 1) the kg271p is a 27 inch monitor with 1080p resolution which i think is a little stretched out. I recommend a 24 inch like mine. Or better to go with 1440p resolution for 27inch screen. 2) the refresh rate is higher on mine at 165hz where as the other is 144hz 3) the kg271p is a TN panel which I wouldn't recommend if you're specific about screen quality. The vg240ys is an IPS display which is much superior. So in conclusion get the one I have as you'll find the results much more satisfying in terms of picture quality and refresh rate. I have an old monitor Acer s200 hl 900p monitor which I've been using with gtx1050ti and ryzen 5 1600 and get adequate performance in gaming. Should i upgrade to Acer Nitro VG240YS? is the difference really worth it?

Yes. But the performance will drop because of the higher resolution. You have to keep that in mind. But you'll also get much better clarity and quality while gaming.

It's hard to measure response time. But this monitor has somewhere around 10ms. Not all monitors have 5ms or below. It's mostly costlier ones that have the lowest response times. TVs have the highest response time. So if you play multiplayer games it's best to get a gaming monitor.

It's off for me cus I put it on srgb mode. It turns off vrb. Vrb is visual response booster. If you want a better response time you can switch on. Especially if you're playing multiplayer games.

Really cool review, I also have an RX 5600 XT, does it maintain most of the games at 165Hz ?

I usually set all the games at ultra settings and to 3k resolution. So I won't get above 70fps. But if you set to medium high and 1080p resolution, then yeah you might easily get it. Most indie and multiplayer games you can achieve that number. Don't really need above 60fps for AAA titles. Also a sub to the channel will be super helpful.

how to have that radeon app? i think I don't have it. do I have to have a GPU from amd? i just have r3 3200g. and I'm using this acer monitor rn

you don't necessarily need a GPU. You can connect to the HDMI port behind your PC. If you have a monitor already, consider this just as another. Only replace it, you don't need any other software. Only if you get a GPU in the future, will you have to connect the monitor to it.
