It's quite unbelievable that two professionals are openly bragging about how quickly they called, high-fiving each other, and Beth Shak is dancing saying "I got it", all whilst a third player is still deciding whether to call. Why don't you just tell him you both have aces, you clearly don't want his chips. And then the third player calls!? This is like three drunks in a home game, not three pros as the WSOP Main Event.

 KK is the same as AA before the river comes. Better when both the other aces aren't in the deck. The players with pocket rockets are pretty much depending on a flush... which is what, 2%? Its essentially the same as duece deuce til all the cards are flipped. Thats what makes poker so fun. A trash nothing hand can become the nuts. AA gets cracked all the time. Idk how many times I snap folded like a 8 3 offsuit, as I should... and it would have been trips or a full boat lol.

@felixaquila9701
@felixaquila9701 10 ай бұрын
@@gwoody4003 I disagree. If he put them both on two Aces, he had to know that it's still only 20% chance of winning. This is relatively easy to estimate, you have 2 outs at 5 cards so the chance to lose is roughly (1 - 0.05)^5 [2 cards of 46 remaining is about 5%] which again is roughly 75%. Count in that a flush will also kill you since the player with the corresponding Ace will win, and your loss chance goes up to somewhere near 80%. Killing yourself with 80% chance while only having the chance to triple up is suicide. I agree that this is not a perfectly easy calculation to make, but for a poker Pro it should be mathematical basics.
@gwoody4003
@gwoody4003 10 ай бұрын
@@felixaquila9701 I wonder if he really did put them both on AA. Cus yeah, AA is likely to be cracked 20% of the time. KK vs AA has 15% odds of winning. Idk how it compounds when there's 2 AA out there or in the case we know the other 2 aces are dead. But if I knew with near certainty both opponents were AA and I had KK, I think I would still make that call. They are already guarenteed top pair... but near improbable to improve beyond top pair. Idk it would really depend on how my day was going. Some days you just have better luck and if I been connecting all day I would probably call it lol. Hindsight is always 2020, and you can't really get bogged down in shoulda coulda thinking in Poker or you will end up timid or on tilt. I noticed a lot of players deep in a tournament seem to get exhausted or bored and wanna get it over with and take gambles they wouldn't in early rounds. Having a guarenteed profit sewed up I am sure has a lot to do with it. 3rd place is a decent payout, I wouldn't be as worried about being wrong like getting cleaned out early would make me.
@gwoody4003
@gwoody4003 10 ай бұрын
We know how it turned out and could see everyone's hand, and so its easier to say we would turn that down and it was a bad call. And despite the obvious tells, you never KNOW for sure what they had. If he won we would be praising the genius 4D chess move 🤣. I wish he had won, the Hellmuth meltdown would have been epic. You could tell he was worried a little when those other 2 aces were shown.

@felixaquila9701 10 ай бұрын
@@gwoody4003 "But if I knew with near certainty both opponents were AA and I had KK, I think I would still make that call." - Why? I can see that someone would disregard the possibility of 2x2 Aces because this event is so improbable, but if you were near certain that you had to beat the Aces, and you know that this will only happen in 20% of cases, why would you still do the call? Or why would you make the call depending on previous luck? I mean, I can absolutely understand playing risky when doing recreational poker, but in a tournament, this would just show a lack of mental discipline.

How did Richey see all that behaviour, find it within himself to CALL, then roll his eyes when she showed the Aces, like it was some sort of surprise that she had them? @@Alex-uo7th It's indeed really hard to understand stack sizes with this information. I try to look at pot size. Before Hellmuth's all-in pot is 661k, after that its 823k, so it looks like he has 162k. Also, his move is shown as all-in, but Shak's raise is shown as 504k, so she has more than anyone. So, it seems that 504k is Richey's stack. Also, when he calls the pot increases by 424k as well - from 823k to 1247k.
@Alex-uo7th
@Alex-uo7th 10 ай бұрын
@@Spailzor Your numbers seem to adds up and, on this situation, is indeed a fold. The only thing that i'd like to add is that is very hard to assign aces to both opponents. He did a large raise, she went all in (still QQ-AK possible), and Hellmuth instacalled ALL-in with the original raiser that still have to talk (so AA), so it's possible that he assigned only AA to hellmuth, that was less dangerous regarding the stack, and even if lost to Hellmuth, he could have ended in profit with the side pot.. I did a quick MATH (WRONG, BUT NOT BY MUCH) and the chance of that hand dealt preflop is 1/10.793.861 so we can't really blame him for not assigning ACEs to both opponents, while he have kings. IF AA were assigned only to hellmuth (that is a reasonable logical thinking), the decision to call is the right one.

Don't quite know if I would say that was the most chaotic hand for a split pot by the dominant hands. Most chaotic would have been a flop of two diamonds or hearts. Then the turn is the K of diamonds or hearts to give Richey trips and Shak the flush draw and then the river gives Shak the flush and double knockout. THAT would have been chaotic.

I remember this hand so well, as I was screaming at the TV: "WTF?? Hellmuth just broke the rules and maybe borderline cheated (yeah, what a world champion) and affected action after him that could have an impact on the next player. Hellmuth has always been a narcissistic sack of monkey puke, (and forget the crap about it's just him being "so competitive"), and as far as I'm concerned, he's a cheater. I don't know if youtube has it up anymore, but, he once tried to take back a call of an all-in claiming he didn't know it was a shove. He also, has CONTINUOUSLY, for years, berated, cursed at, and mocked other players in a manner that is against the rules, and he is essentially never, NEVER penalized for it. That is utter horseshit. In case I'm being too subtle, I've loathed him for decades.

I suspect that due to him being down to 10bigs in what was essentially a hyper turbo, Richie figured that going in with KK was still his best bet, even if it did mean being up against AA. And if he figured out that they both had AA, he'd know he wouldn't get beat by a set. So he went for the triple-up on hopes of catching a King.

folding pocket kings pre is a bad move like 99.9% of the time, but this looks like one of the few times it is warranted. Beth could have a wide variety of holdings when she jams, but when Hellmuth snap rejams, with Brett still to act, and having already raised? That's a rough spot. Add to that the dancing that Beth was doing, even after Phil rejammed, and I think this is a fold. As Brett, what's the situation you're actually hoping for? Sure, maybe Beth has Queens, or Ace King, but what is Phil snap jamming with? He might call with AK, but he's not snap calling. A solver probably calls most of the time but in 2007 this seems like a fold.
