Florida has an invasive species problem with lion fish. The locals would say that they are not native to Florida and they take over the reefs. Reproduce like crazy and they eat up everything.

Almost all the caribbean have the same problem with the lion fish. The locals encourage people to not throw them in the ocean because they don't have natural predators and as you say they end on the reefs and catch whatever they want.

@DarthPatrick

Invasive fish are fish that people brought from other parts of the world and put them in the ocean for whatever reason. If the new fish have no natural predators, they just learn to stay in that spot. They continue to breed rapidly with the lack of predators. The native fish are accustomed to living in whichever biome they’re in, such as a reef, so they can’t leave. This, in extreme cases, can destroy entire ecosystems. One example of an invasive fish is the lion fish, originally from the Indian Ocean. They have poisonous spines, so humans don’t eat them. In recent years the lion fish population has gone out of control in the western Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico.

Hi Ace, The new fish that you ate is called a wahanui. It is translated from hawaiian big mouth and it has high amounts of ciguterra. Also the peacock grouper is an invasive fish to hawaii so try to kill them so it wont damage the reef
@vampiroll

If you dont mind me asking, what is ciguterra? How is it harmful? What does it do? just curious
@micah_hammah
@micah_hammah 3 жыл бұрын
Jeff H ciguatera poisoning also know as cig for short is a bacteria in a algae that small fish eat and the bigger predatory fish eat the little fish. So then the big fish has the bacteria in it. In the fish the bacteria sticks in the head and organs so the fillet meat will have lower chance of getting sick. The symptoms are vomiting, throwing up, and diarrhea.

An invasive species is a species that is not native to a specific location or a fush that has spread to a degree believed to cause damage to the environment, Lion fish are everywhere and also very invasive. Invasive definition is - tending to spread especially in a quick or aggressive manner

People bring non indigenous fish and dump them into foreign oceans. Say the Peacock grouper came from an African ocean. Somebody released a school of them into the Hawaii waters. Millions of years ago when the Hawaii fish were evolving, Hawaii’s Natural selection didn’t include peacock groupers. So When a foreign predator like the Peacock grouper gets released into a foreign body of water, they start wiping out native fish populations and disrupt the food chain. They’re invasive...

Invasive meaning they are not native to that area. Somehow they got there in an non natural way. Most likely someone had them as pets, raised them and released them into the wild. They were able to survive because their climate was the same as where you are. Problem is, they take over the area, they reproduce and reproduce over years and no other fish eat them. When a fish doesn't have a predator for whatever reason, they decimate the other fish population because they need to eat to survive and their population doubles and doibles because no other fish eat them. It throws off the balance of the eco system. Just like on land in nature. Say wolves for example. In a lot of states you can not hunt them. They were brought into the area by fish and wildlife because in earlier times the natives wiped out the wolf pophlation. Fish and Game reintroduced them by inserting a 6 pack of wolves. Now, those state are opening wolfe hunting to control the population. Same thing, the wolves eat deer, elk, bison, cattle, whatever they can get. If no one controls the wolf population, eventually there will be some many wolves that need to eat, there will be no more cattle, bison, etc. Throws off the balance of the eco system. So if the natives that live there are telling you that you have to kill the fish to bring down the population, whether you agree with it or think what they are telling you is true, you should do it to respect the ecosystem your enjoying cause you may not get to enjoy it one day if those fish wipe out the other fish population. I'm sure their "Conservation Of Fish and Game" had to okay it otherwise everyone would be getting violations for want and waste. Killing a fish and throwing it away. Where I live we have to kill all snakeheads we catch regardless of where we catch them.

Lion fish in florida are invasive also. The open ocean is like a desert. Most Fish cant travel across it. So yes fish are isolated to different regions. Lion fish have no natural predators and they eat any small fish the can get ahold of. And they are hard to catch with hook n line. So they wipe out all local populations.

It’s sad to see such a huge one being caught and released. There are people who set up roundups just to get Rois out the water. With rewards but mostly to get them out and have fun while doing it. They also carry ciguatera. Very poisonous. Just wanted to shed some light. Mahalo🤙🏽
