This position is useful in the case of being told by cops to stay on the ground, lay flat on your stomach, and keep your hands away from your body as far as possible. The surrender pose.

Current guidance states that feet can be up to the width of a boot (based on the grader) apart or closer. It may be worth noting this in the description for soldiers referring to this video for aid.

Getting 30 is easy enough; however, averaging one rep every two seconds for the duration? I think not...not with any kind of form. Granted, my arms are fairly long, but it takes a full second/rep for a good form, full extension pushup...and that's with the aid of the normal elastic rebound on the bottom. It also takes very close to a second to perform the arm-extension "T," leaving no time for the transitions. I normally perform 80-85 good form "regular" pushups in two minutes. Trying this for the first time I did 44.

Yeah it's hard. You have to basically fling your arms out and in as fast as possible. Silly movement.

For me it’s starts getting sore at 27 whereas I can manage 30-35 regular pushups fairly easily and I usually max out at around 55-60 regular pushups. Managed 33 hand release. Signing up later this year. Hopefully I can better by that time.

I feel the burn in my chest by reps 27 for this new push up. This PUs is brutal when it comes to execute correct form.

According to the Army’s official site your hands can’t touch the ground when putting them out which is why it’s a hand release push-up.

I like that your thought process is spot on for how I feel about this hand release push-up! Why not just do a bench press? It is going to be tough to motivate Soldiers and explain to them why this movement is important. Just do it because the Army said so! lol

Setting up bench press equipment during a PT test sounds like a legistical nightmare. The deadlift bar is already enough of a pain in the ass. Especially on deployment.

I’m 6’8” and I can bench 275 for reps. I only got 35 solid reps in the allotted 2 min. Gonna be really hard to max these with a long wingspan given the allotted time. In general they’re harder because you have to go all the way down.

All are really doing good work. You have to read up on the regs thoroughly before doing these videos. The last one I see, someone said to bend your legs beyond 90 degrees when doing sit ups. The regs clearly stated that if that's done, they will not be counted.

Yup and only the heel is required to be on the ground so have the one holding your heels vs your feet is advantageous to you.

as someone who is currently in infantry oust (currently on HBL) these push ups are HARD ASF on the our first 1-1-1 I got 28 and on our first acft I got 28 in 2 minutes got terminated for resting. this is definitely not a test you can just walk into. You gotta train for it
@Luke-td2mm
@Luke-td2mm 4 жыл бұрын
Think I saw you (only remember because that's a unique name) They are definitely something you have to train extra for. I have focused on just doing PRT push-ups, which got me a 32 (shitty 24 on my 1-1-1) on my ACFT. So I'd say just doing multiple types of push-ups will help overall ability, now the leg tucks on the other hand....

Did they add the T pushup back again? Was tracking that they went from the T pushup as demonstrated in the video. But if I'm not mistaken it's just a hand release pushup with no extension.
@Ophio117

That's what I was tracking as well but a look at the current official acft website shows that the T is back. www.army.mil/acft/#eventCard3

t-pushup is the official one - question of how far out you must extend, in my mind. if I'm trying to rest, I slowly extend and bring back, staying in motion. At the beginning - I'm just flicking my hands out and back in. I need to figure out pacing, but got 49 on my last ACFT.
@jesseyjulson1967

@@davidnee will probably be another graders discretion type of thing. I'm sure this first year of diagnostics there will be a lot of gray areas. FY21 hopefully they work all the bugs out. My units not getting the equipment until possibly 7 months prior to if not less than that.

I think it was 70 when it was purely a hand release push-up. Now that you extend the arms out it dropped to 60. Not sure if it’s easier or harder to be honest. Extending the arms takes much more time than just a hand release.

@wckvn

One of the reasons why it was changed from hand release to a hand extension push up is because there were some flexible guys just lifting their chest off the ground and by doing so lifting their hands off... also if you do an ACFT in a limited visibility hours graders were not always able to detect if a soldier lifted his hands of the ground or not... so, extending hands was a trade-off.

Sorry to tell y’all, but you need to read the regulations put out by the army more carefully. It’s hand RELEASE pushups, meaning they must come completely off the ground, then move into a T shape with your body, and then they must return to starting position. Also, feet must be boot WIDTH apart, not length. You need to pay more attention to detail, because you could very well cause someone to get complacent doing these pushups like this, you almost got me.

I'm looking to get in before october (or whenever they actually implement it) so should I practice normal pushups for the APFT I'm likely taking or do these HRP's instead thinking it may also increase your normal pushups?
