Longtime volunteer with Oregon Ducks hockey. I can testify that ACHA hockey is growing by leaps and bounds. Oregon hockey just played our first D1 season in front of near sellout crowds in Eugene. Many of the ACHA teams are well organized and funded. Hockey jerseys sell like hotcakes and a junior player could find himself playing in a southern state in front of a huge crowd.

The ACHA gets bigger and better each year. My suggestion for AHA is to do a monthly roundup of notable ACHA games/ events and maybe a uniform of the month. This will give prospective players a better idea of the ACHA.

This is wild! I didn't realize Club hockey had grown so far that they offer scholarships. They used to hold try outs and you paid to play on the team when I was in college back in the early 2000s. This is really cool

I was a assistant coach for the First Canadian men’s team Sault College Cougars. We won Nationals our first year we were eligible, and the score was 12-1 or maybe 2. But the advantage we have is the NOJHL is our backyard with a team here in town. So if you look at the rooster of that D3 team I would dare to say we could have skated and competed with any D2 or some D1 teams that year. The next year we we’re headed back to nattys in D2 as they moved us up right after our D3 victory. And now recruiting is done in all of the Junior leagues up here. I have noticed many scouts or coaches coming to Canada to get these players. I have seen Grand Valley, Adrian and many more up here in Canada looking for quality players that won’t necessarily go to major Junior and the college hockey here is full of ex-OHL players so it is hard to make those squads as after their OHL career they have a full ride school package provided by the OHL team.

Can you please explain the difference between the quality of a D1 team like Adrian College in Michigan and another in a different D1 league University of Georgia. They seem to have different national championships, but both are D1. Thanks😮

I wouldn't say ACHA d2/3 were "just for fun" in the past. Maybe in certain regions, but certainly not in the Southwest and West even 15 years ago. 2007-2008 we had a few low tier junior guys and plenty of guys who played u18 AA and we'd still get smoked by a number teams with great players. I remember only one team who was actually truly "club", but all the other programs (including ours) had tryouts every season with fans at games, etc. Colorado, Texas, California, AZ all had some quality rosters across d2/3.

So how would a top 10 ACHA D1 team fair against D3 teams? against say 25th ranked D3?
@ahadvising8
@ahadvising8 7 ай бұрын
Good question! They’d probably do quite well honestly. Would be a close 7 game series, with the D3 team having the edge

Do ACHA teams scout the KIJHL? I see a lot of players from the KI on ACHA teams and am wondering how does that connection happen? Do the ACHA players qualify for any scholarships? Or is pay to play?

ACHC is competitive club hockey. There is no scouting (Univeristy of Illinois grad with D1 & 2). Recruiting is from player word of mouth. We had a lot of guys from Iowa one year because one of our teammates recruited his buddies. Teams have ZERO impact on admitting students. Most of the coaches and staff are volunteers. We gave a lot of our gate revenue to our coaches as a thanks for their time.

DI NCAA hockey is too expensive to watch so ACHA has a big advantage in that sense. However, the ACHA teams from schools with D1 programs must be included on their athletic websites, the ACHA scheduling is difficult to access and prospective spectators often don't even know the league or teams exist. Get on the ball and do a better job of publicizing this sport. Put pressure on the school athletic programs themselves.

Do you know much about the BCIHL and ACAC. I never see any mention of these two leagues when both are around NCAA d3 and low D1 level. SFU beat a D1 team and usports teams. ACAC beats Usports teams as well.

They’re a bit more low key and not leagues we typically send players to. Some programs in those leagues are quite good though and are worth going to

I think USports in Canada is the top league in N.A., NCAA is #2. For the time being until the NCAA allows in major junior tier 1 players from Canada.
@ahadvising8
@ahadvising8 4 ай бұрын
NCAA is ahead of Usports because of future advancements. USHL is equivalent and as competitive and strong as the 3 CHL leagues. They just have 1 major junior league rather than 3.
@maximite
@maximite 2 ай бұрын
@@ahadvising8top players from CHL play in world juniors for top countries in tournament. Zero players from USHL play in world juniors, except for weak teams where that is their only N.A. player. More CHL players move on to AHL and ECHL than AHL. Players who play in NHL from NCAA usually only play 1-2 years. A CHL team will beat an USHL team any day of the week. Any USHL player over 18 that's worth their weight would already be in the NCAA
