I'm 5' 7.5" and used to bench with my middle finger on the rings because I thought wider is better. Over time, I've narrowed my grip and the sweet spot is pinkies 1-1.5" inside the rings. I know some argue using a wider grip is better because it reduces the range of motion, engages chest more, etc, but I just feel the most explosive, stable, and strongest with my narrower grip.

Hey this just added 100lbs to my bench. Just kidding great advice. I'm 58 years old and bench 365 lbs close grip. My wide grip max was 550 lbs back in my early 50s. I blew out my rotator cuffs not pushing at 45 degrees. I wish I had this video 30 years ago. To the young guys this is the real deal, listen up.

@@MatteoFitness Not juiced. I have benched for 30 years plus as my main focus. It was all 1 lbs at a time. There are no easy gains. As a natural you can gain approximately 30 lbs of lean muscle mass as that is what your natural T production can support. Mine is all in my chest and arms. I do not do legs or back except to help my bench. I started at a body weight of 185 lbs and I weigh 235 lbs now after 30 years of benching. So I have about 25 lbs of fat and 25 lbs of lean muscle gain. So about 1 lbs per year of muscle gain naturally. I think it's about 20mg per week of natural T. Juicers use 10X, 20X, 50X that. That's why they die young.

I wish I saw this video years ago. It was only few days ago when I learned about hip drives. I tried hip driving yesterday. It was completely different level of experience. Lost count of sets and reps and feeling overtrained. There was a brief bench pressing short with JM. Don't have much time to see this tutorial. Hence let me ask you how many leg drives you need in bench press. Look forward to live long enough to hit some decent numbers on the bench

I've never really been able to get a good leg drive for my bench, like I'm not really sure what to do in order to drive my legs while keeping my butt on the bench. I really like the tips though, especially the foot placement, the bar being at your eye, keeping your back tight, hand placement, and elbow angle. Bench is a hard lift for me because I'm really tall and have long arms, and I've been stuck at a max of 195 for a few months (I started lifting in january) but I know that I'm strong enough to get 205+ right now, i just can't get it because of poor setup. Ill work on adding these tips to my bench and see if I can't get a new max! Thank you!

I feel so fucking good right now. Julius Maddox literally did the exact same thing I do when trying to coach a beginner on the bench press and they're flared too far (or more correctly I use a similar example). I don't use the football example, instead I just say if you're pushing something you wouldn't hold your elbows up there and give them a standing example 100% exactly as Jules did. I feel so pro, and so vindicated lol.
