My family is competitive. Ours is first to call out the word. And we have someone keeping score. If two+ people call out the word at close to the same time we skip it and find a new word. And, some times we’re feeling extra sadomasochistic so we add the rule that if we had to skip a word it can’t be used again. Like if two people call out “Exit” for E, then it’s no longer in play. It’s fun. If you think Monopoly messes with friends, our rules for the Alphabet game are not for you.

Oh, and winner usually gets the prize of everyone else chips in to buy their lunch. Because road trips are usually me and some other family from different households. So it’s a good prize.

Yea but I've never heard of it having to be the first letter of the word. Also it's more fun making it competitive where everybody has to go through the whole alphabet on their own and two people can't use the same thing for a letter.

@@komradekhabarovsk727 We've always played by those rules as well, but it did have to be the first letter. Except for X, we could use any word with the letter X in it, except for the word "exit." We also play with the rule that it can't be on a vehicle either, so only signs or buildings.

Geoff's "it has to be the first letter" is wrong, as is the "everybody takes turns with different letters is wrong." It's a competitive game, not a cooperative one! :) That rule just the person who gets J,Q,X, and Z. And in a 3 player game, someone is gonna get 2 hard letters.

First off I’m just gonna say that lots of people play this game in lots of different ways and so calling any of the iterations wrongs is wrong itself, it’s just different. Second off I play the game where everyone does take turns, it does have to be the first letter, it doesn’t have to be written but it does have to be a noun and fit the category that we chose such as animals, or Pokemon etc.

They drove past San Leandro!!! That’s where I live!!! They had to have gone to the Winchester Mystery house. Because SF has Alcatraz and that’s in the opposite direction

Same! The whole time they were driving I was like "Yup, that's that thing I know" every five seconds. Little did they know. That road next to the freeway where Jeremy mentioned that ranch? At one point there WAS a zebra living on the property next door to that ranch. It wasn't a zebra ranch, there just happened to be one there.

Its a crystler car. I have a town and country and that’s the same console. If not Bluetooth, there’s the way to play with a charging cord through aux.

My siblings and I also played the ABC game on car trips, but we competed to reach z. Rules for our version were: Everyone starts at A, first to Z wins, last to Z loses, the words have to be written out, you can't use the same word on the same sign as someone else if they call it first, letters can't be called on licence plates, even if they're vanity plates, and if we were in big cities we couldn't call words on semi trucks and that rule was waived if we were in the middle of nowhere and the only signs were street/miles away from a city/speed limit signs. Sometimes the games would last the entire trip when we got stuck on uncommon letters like Q, X, and Z. Always helpful to pass a dairy queen, next exit, or pizza place signs.

ALPHABET GAME! I play this with my family on every single road trip they go on. We play it as a competition where the letter can be anywhere in a word but can’t be used again by someone else. It gets intense

Whenever I'm playing this game, instead of going through the alphabet a-z, the rules are that the next person has to say a word that starts with the last letter of the previous word. This way, the game can go on forever!

Our state is very beautiful when we get rain. You guys came at a good time in the year. I'm from Southern California, currently living in Central California. Never lived in the bay area, but I have family in silicon valley, so I'm semi familiar with the area.
