I own LaForge. I also owned True-D. Those were really all there was for diversity at the time I got my first set. Right after I bought my first modules did the cheaper versions come out. If I were to buy now, these would definitely get a look! Just the way the event scan function is implemented would make my life so much easier at races. I can admit that, but I'm not a fanboy -- but I do love my LaForge.

Raymond Williams I have tried the LaForge firmware on this module but found it very lacking even in comparison with the stock firmware. That's not to say the hardware is bad. I'm open to trying out different options and finding what suits me best, I guess I was lucky enough to have others to try. The Furious looks nice but again I found it lacking. The ultra mode is really very good, super handy and saves a lot of time, lost model is bloody genius but the downside of not being able to get decent doors is pain for lots of ppl. Not for me as I'm using Attitude v2's so had to cut a hole and hack the old module out.

I've tried reaching out in the RCG thread, but haven't been able to get much of a reply yet. Where can I get my hands on the fw for it... Got the Pro58 and ST-Link ready to rock, would love to do some testing.

The only thing you lose is the beeper and the ability to change the channels with the fatshark button but that will be fixed soon.

@@BluegrassMultirotorFPV you'll need to pay for the firmware. It's around 13 bucks. It was well worth it. It fixed the diversity bug where channel b would be automatically favored. Eachine wrote crap software for awesome hardware(32bit STM vs 8bit in all others).

OSD in goggle requires additional hardware that is not on the RX5808 module. GC9N has a project where he builds a micro minim OSD into the goggles to provide OSD, but it's not really for the faint of heart.

George is fine. He's cut a deal with Furious FPV to put Achilles on the Furious Achilles module. I'm not sure what the status of the open source project is now.

You're not experiencing drift. The channels are just wide enough that they overlap. So if your channel is actually 5800, then if you tune in to 5810, you will see the 5800 channel but it will be weaker. The drift that Achilles deals with is usually caused by heat changing the frequency of the oscillator, and it is only on the order of a MHz or two.

I think you switch to ultra then long-press the dial, then save.

re download the firmware Achilles V2 and update your module

Long Press when the desired frequency is selected. Save to favorites will be in the menu that pops up.

Thank you very much for your quick reply! But when I'm on the desired frequency and I long press the middle button (I have a "home made custom" diversity module with Achilles 2.0 on it, and it has three buttons instead of a rotary switch) it says saved successfully. But then when I go into favorites I don't know to which favorite number it saved that chosen frequency because it doesn't show me the frequency when I'm in the favorites menu. But don't worry, now as I know how to add it to favorites I will play around and hopefully will find a solution. :)

Honestly, it's really hard to do a good antenna test, because there are so many different criteria that make an antenna good or bad. For omni antennas, it's a little easier, but for patch antennas, the difference in beamwidth can make one antenna great for one situation and terrible for another. So you can't just say "this is the best", at least not very easily. Also, testing axial ratio (multipath rejection) is difficult. So I'm not saying it'll never happen, but it's not imminent.

You have to carefully plan this sort of testing. I think a construction analysis with basic instrumented bench tests yield the most information. (Kind of like what Bruce Simpson occasionally does.) But most of this "hurrdurr imma randomly fly around in my backyard" "testing" just isn't helpful.

Everything is subjective so in the case of antennas, stick with whatever works best for YOU.

The split version is a little more low-profile in the goggles, and some people like having two antennas on the opposite side of their head. The integrated version is easier to install.

Great info! The V3's have the module hatch where as the V2's do not. I'm not against cutting/ modding the goggles though - -just not sure if I can drop in this Achilles Module on V2's since they're a bit different. May just have to order one and try it :)

I don't think Attitude v2 can take a FS module drop-in. I think you have to cut away part of the top of the case. Not 100% sure though.

This is die to difference in video bandwidth between the modules. This is very difficult to design and manufacture around, and it is something that higher end modules like rapidfire account for.

No, not at all. I mean... I haven't verified it, but I've tested a bunch of these modules and they basically pull the same current regardless of what firmware they're running. So I would be really surprised if Achilles was more efficient.

The firmware selects which RF module is being seen, so the decisions it makes can cause performance to be better or worse.

POLARJFPV the dominator goggles have a taller module bay than the attitudes. So unless you want to cut the top of your attitudes module bay it won't fit.

I have att v3 and mine fit just fine. All you have to do is loosen the screw that holds the left side of the goggles halves together and gently squeeze the module in there. Tighten it back up and you're set!

Fits reasonably well in the Attitude V3 - that's what I'm using since day one. The trick is that you will need a pin header that extends the pins just a little bit and this way it fits without any modification of the goggles. I think I'll put up a video on that this evening.

I would guess yes, because it looks very similar to the Attitude shell and I doubt that they made a whole new mold just for the Focal. You will need the True-D Attitude cover not the one for the other fat sharks.

I think newer versions of the Pro58 can't have Achilles installed on them.

I haven't verified this, but I am 99% sure it will work with any of the generic RX5808 modules. If it takes the GC9N firmware, it should take Achilles too.

Be sure in Xloader that you have selected the correct type of board (Uno, Nano, etc.) in that pulldown menu. For drivers, I suggest downloading and installing the Arduino app. It comes with drivers that I think will work with your module.

It's favoring the patch because the patch has like a 120 degree beamwidth and 10 dBi of gain. So as long as you are flying in front of yourself, the patch is the right antenna to use.

I always assume that a Fatshark module won't fit Attitudes without modification unless somebody specifically tells me otherwise. I haven't been able to verify this one. I guess I could try it in the Attitude v4.

You need to undo the screws that hold the 2 halves of the goggles together. Take off the face plate. Separate the 2 halves enough that the module will fit in. tighten screws again. The goggles case will apply enough pressure on the module that it wont come out. You will have a wider join gap in the goggles at one end but thats ok

It fits v3's if you follow the steps i listed above. Got it in my Attitude v3's and works fine. The 3D printed covers wont fit unless you cut off the mounting tabs and double side tape it to the module (not required as the module will not come out. But did it for added screen protection)

I did say there will be a small gap at one end, but they are in there and working fine. And have been for 6 months. If you don't want a slight gap that does not affect anything and cant really tell unless your looking for it, then don't do it. Just trying to answer a question Bro. The fact is you can get it to work which is the point of his question I believe. Yes the bay is too small.

I really would expect it to work with almost all of the RX5808 modules out today. The exception would be a few of the Big Boys who have made improvements to the module that break compatibility. If it can take the GC9N firmware, it'll take Achilles.

Just did a search and it appears the Pro58 doesn't have a way to flash new firmware! Too bad.

Joshua Bardwell the pro58 uses a stm32F1 not a atmega328p chip like everyone else. It would have to be ported, so the short answer is no it will not work

sweet thanks! at the surface this stuff seems so difficult and scare, but if you read a little and look carefully it turns out to be straight forward. i was thinking that there was something special in the goggle to make it work. i haven't held one of these modules in my hands yet to play with. i will soon though! thanks again.

If you think updating the firmware on a module is for 'geeks' I am not sure how you are managing to get by in this hobby! ;-) Honestly it is very straightforward and 40 bucks goes a pretty long way these days. You could almost use it to upgrade to a runcam eagle 2 for example.

Listen, for a new person, having to watch a confusing video, buy some parts, read some long and confusing instructions, and then figure it all out when you can spend an extra $30-$40 is not the best advice to give someone that is getting into this hobby. Leo Vasquez Josh is always very upfront about affiliate links. Considering the significant time he has put into reviewing many other modules available on the market I think it's pretty safe to say he's not recommending this module just for the Amazon kickback. Many people are very happy to do a bit of tinkering to save 40 bucks, so why wouldn't he make a video about it? Sure there are people who would rather their gear not need any extra efforts and are happy to pay for that. Still, this module isn't a bad option. I've used it with the stock firmware for a year now and it's been great. this firmware is just a nice bonus. As Josh said, to each his own.
