A variety of styles can be played effectively on an acoustic guitar with low action and fitted with electric guitar strings and a magnetic pickup. Correction. The band mentioned was called Corner Shop and the song was "brim Full of Asha" PLEASE SUBSCRIBE. THANKS.

D'addario EJ20 Strings are basically an Electric Guitar version of Extra Light Acoustic Guitar strings. The nickel wound strings tend to outlast phosphor Bronze or 80/20 bronze strings as they're less prone to tarnishing. They also have a warmer & darker sound than bronze acoustic guitar strings so they're great for brighter instruments.

I know it was 5 years ago that you made this video. I just wanted to say many thanks, as it is nice to hear from a guitar teacher, that you can use electric on an acoustic guitar. I have an Eastcoast SA30D bought s/h for £25 as I am a beginner. I am going to change the strings, as the are rusty and after watching your video. I'm going to put a set of electric 11s on. Many thanks. Kim

Thanks. I think electric strings are great for beginners . You can always change later if you want, but ,like me, you probably never will, especially if you play amplified.

Playability is paramount (to me). Even without a pickup, nickel (electric) strings play easier on any guitar than bronze. Straight acoustically, some deep, full tones are lost compared to bronze. So what? At least I'm playing it. At 66 years old, I just took my Taylor acoustic out of the closet and am stringing it with heavier nickel strings (13-56, in hopes of retaining more lows). When they arrive, I'll decide if they're worth keeping on the instrument after playing it for a while. If not, I'll go to my choice in electric strings, 10-46. It's a decent acoustic, but it's been stored for 14 years because even at 52, it wasn't comfortable to play with bronze strings. Nice video. Thank you. ....oh, even if the guitar you demonstrate with isn't a premium instrument, it's actually a pretty guitar.

I use electric strings on an acoustic guitar exactly because of a magnetic pickup. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a cutaway. But I mostly play rhythm anyway.

I do believe after researching this and other vids on YT that I HAVE TO upgrade my Vantage acoustic/electric with electric 10's. Because I have a set of 10's. I ALWAYS amplify, I have NO appreciation for naked acoustic sound. Its a waste of the huge potential that acoustic guitars have to offer us. Thank you for your encouragement!

How did ya ground the sound hole pickup without a metal bridge? Was there a piezo already in the guitar that is grounded? Steel for passive pickups. If ya replace bronze with steel keep the gauge the same unless you change the nut and bridge.

I'm new to the guitar, (I've had mine about a year, but I haven't a lot of time to play.) And I really want to get back into it again, but all the songs I want to learn are electric(such as crazy train, or other ozzy osbourne hits, metallica, AC/DC, ect.) And my acoustic just can't get the right sound out. I've got a small amp that it plugs into, but it only increases the sound. I love the electric, but in no way have the money to invest into another guitar.(I'm 15) is it worth it to get the electric strings? And which kind should I get? I don't remember the type of guitar I've got, I think it's a yamaha, but I can give you more info about it around 4pm. Also, any tips for usage and restringing the guitar?

Is your guitar an acoustic electric with a pre amp and under saddle piezo pick up. If so it will just amplify the acoustic sound. To make it sound electric ,get a sound hole pick up. There are some really cheap ones that will do the job. Fit electric strings. I use ones that start with 11s on the first string, because 10s tend to break more easily at the bridge, but you can try 10s if you want. There are lots of videos on youtube about fitting new strings. Good luck. Don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions. If your guitar is a nylon stringed classical model, the magnetic pick up will not work with nylon strings.

Are the strings easier to play because of the gauge or the material? Say, you put 11 gauge electric strings. Will it still be easier to play than 11 gauge acoustics? If so, is the ease of play still significant at same gauges? Thanks so much.

Sorry for the delay. Yes ,electric 11s will be easier to play than acoustic 11s, because the other 5 strings will be heavier in an acoustic set.

@@duendedude2345 Hey there. I do wonder if you dont mind me asking. I've heard rumours that if you use electric strings on an acoustic guitar they go out of tune much more then if you had normal acoustic guitars? I assume its not true but you never know! :D

DuendeDude thanks man, but i noticed when i finger the first and second fret of the G string it sounded very sharp. Why?
@duendedude2345
@duendedude2345 4 жыл бұрын
@@gv8916 I assume you mean the pitch of the note sounds sharp. when you fret a note close to the nut, you are actually bending the string downwards slightly ,which sharpens the note a little. this is more pronounced if the nut is a bit high, and the lighter strings can contribute. The G string is worst in this respect,especially when you have gone to an unwound G string. The lower nut hight and action of electric guitars help negate this.

I don't have a problem, but maybe you need to lighten your touch compared to playing acoustic,as you won't get the same volume as heavier acoustic strings. if you are amplified, lighten your touch and let the amp do the work.
