It’s less sharp and has less attack in my opinion. It also just feels better to play my little baby hands get all cut up my steel strings ;-;

Depends on the music style your playing on the guitar some music will sound better on steel some will sound better on nylon

Exactly. The high end of the steel strings is nice. But so are the mids of nylons. It's a rounder sound but not better or worse. Just different. I need both.

Steel has a longer more natural ringing of notes and fuller sound. Nylon has a more focused sound over all.

Depends on where the song is going. If it's gonna rock, steel. But if it's going slow and sentimental, maybe nylon sounds better

Totally depends on the song. Here you have what sounds like a Skynrd riff that is done with a nice James Taylor inspired fingerpicking style. So the steel string sounds better here. But it’s a cool comparison to make. I should do this more going forward and not assume one is better than the other for a particular song without trying both first. Great idea!

I have both and I play them according to the vibe. Just get a parlor acoustic with a wide nut like a classical and they will be very similar to play.

Nylon. I am still learning but I wanted a guitar and when it came time for a choice I decided on a classical guitar for all the things that I felt would be easier to learn guitar.

Well, naturaly it depends on what type of music you're playing, for example fast spanish chords sound better with nylon. However I prefer Steel

I've been using a Classical Yamaha for the past 4 years or so, but I also wanted an electro acoustic one, when I'm playing with an amplifier. The thing is size is important, so I ordered a Yamaha APX T2 OVS, which is 3/4, traveler. I got it 2 days ago, I'm still trying it, I have 14 days to change my mind. The thing is I love the sound of nylon and these steel ones hurt my fingers reaaaally bad. But the body is super small and I not sure how nylon strings will sound if I change them.

For nylon I recommend cordoba or Yamaha they make good quality instruments for any price level. And for steel string I would go with something like Washburn or fender for starting out. They also make good quality instruments that are easy to play.

The steel rang more clear and the nylon a warmer sound. Depending on what styles you play both may be required. Try flamenco / rumba on steel strings and see what happens .

For this one I think I just used the mic on my iPhone. On other videos I use a shure beta condenser microphone. I recommend it!

The nylon is a Juan Alvarez nylon string made in Madrid 1985. I think it’s just a student model but still has a really nice sound. I own a more “expensive” nylon string and prefer the sound and feel of this one.

i know this might sound odd to you but, i wanted to know how to pick the right strings and add the right notes to the chords like you just did. can you perhaps make a tutorial on it like how can one do that to any chord and make some beautiful sounding fingerpicking pattern and add a few notes here and there. It'd be great help. I'm subscribing.

It’s called a harmonic! I can’t really explain through here but you basically play the string while touching it lightly. There should be tutorials on here. Just look up how to play harmonics on guitar

I recommend light gauge strings and check the action on the guitar! The strings might be a little far off the finger board which makes it harder to press. The first beginner guitar I got was so hard to press and that’s because it had nylon strings 😳

Nylon has more resonance and volume, steel has character of metalic materials, metal verb, so if u need to play loud or to play with ensemble (classic as well) use nylon, if u need solos for pop songs or other easy types of songs use steel, it has a great layering under the vocals

Hello! I don’t have tabs unfortunately but I just played a D major a Cadd9 and a G major chord. I hit the low. Notes with my thumb and the higher ones with my index middle and a fingers. No pinky.

See if you can get one that is 3/4 size! Those are more comfortable to play if you have small hands. I’ve seen some classical guitars that size and they sound good

Classical vs Spanish guitar. Spanish guitars were designed to sound louder and more striking to suit the stand alone nature of flamenco. would still be louder no matter your strings. Only thing that would change slightly is tone, and playability/how they feel
