Last year I had the pleasure of playing Charlie Louvin’s 1953 D28. A woman who was camped next to me at Mt Airy saw me in a classic country jam and asked if I would like to play it. Still can’t hardly believe I got to play the guitar of one of my favorite singers. I sang “See the Big Man Cry” with that guitar and cherished every moment. That guitar definitely counts as one of the best sounding and most significant guitars I’ve ever played.

As a teenager I spent a few days with a girlfriend at her aunt's house. She had a D-35 from the '60s in her basement. I cleaned it up and restrung it and woke her up.. She offered to sell it but changed her mind. She started playing on the church bus.

I met you in a Springfield music shop years ago. Actually, you sold me an Eastman mandolin, the day after I saw the Chapmans play at Silver Dollar City. You brought out your vintage Martin guitar, and if I remember correctly you said Marty Stuart had tried to talk you out of it.

My 1962 D28 is the best sounding acoustic I’ve ever heard. I inherited it from my uncle about 20 years ago and I’ve re-fretted it twice. It looks almost as good now as it did when it left the factory. Very few little nicks and dings. All minor.

1947 and 1948 Martins….only ones I’ve played and both at your shop.

I knew Elmer’s guitar would be #1. He even let a shlub like me play it. I was told it’s the guitar Tim Stafford is holding on the cover of Alison’s “Every Time You Say Goodbye” album. I’m guessing he let Tim record with it.

Get a D28, or an HD28.... it will be your Forever Guitar! ..back in the 80s , when I picked up the guitar, it was all Japanese products. Nobody had Martins in Connecticut....after a 20 year delay, I got a 1966 000/18...then a D18, and finally a D28 Custom Shop....Congratulations on becoming a Martin Dealer!

My first Martin was a 1990 D-16m. I chose it over a D-28, It just sounded better and was very lightweight.

Just wait until you get the 1937 authentic in you Shoppe and in your hands. I hear that they are exceptional (and now you sell them).

They are amazing. I had one until my fretting hand spasmed / cramped and wouldn't straighten out for hours. It is a wounded hand, but I will not play a thick neck again. The guitar sounded great, just not for me. It also grew a split on the side of the lower bout.

Yeah. It was so exceptional it got sent back because “it had several issues”. 😂 We heard the same thing about the golden eras and then the vintage series. Now they’ve renamed it authentic, which killed the value of the last two series. No, really, this series is built like a real Martin. We were just kidding when we said it on the last two.

??? 19:25 I've heard about some of the 37 Authentic guitars having some issues. There have been some YT videos showing the work being done to fix them. What's your take on these problems and are they worth the price???

@@jamesakers1175 I am honestly ignorant of any such issue. I have heard of a video discussing this guitar and mentioning how lightly built these are. The folks I know who have bought them are very content...so far.

I have owned 5 Martins, 3 currently. None are vintage, but I have a 1971 J50 purchased new and a 1963 Epiphone Cabellero I found and restored. Other acoustics here and there, including a baritone. Of all the Martins, my absolute favorite is a OMC16e in Ovangkol I have named Brown Dog. (Who doesn't love a brown dog?) I play her a lot more than any other acoustic I own including a D35 and D28-12 string. Had a D16e and a 000M and those did not stick. Recently saw a 000-28 in a local pawn shop but it needs a refret. Don't even want to make a lowball offer in this market, it might be accepted...........

@@jamesakers1175 Beaches Pawn, JAX Beach, FL Had a fair bit of buckle rash and other scratches, nothing affecting playability except potentially the fret wear noted on cursory exam. They might do OK with just a level and crown. It has been well played it seems so likely sounds good. I didn't play it. I don't know it's vintage. I did not check if a pickup was present, I didn't see one. It was not something I felt was needed in my arsenal at present.
