Just a quickie observation - I see all the wood stacked up against your wall of the house; best advice (not that you asked for it) is to keep that stack of wood at least 20-30 feet away from any house structures. Termites love to burrow there and when the wood starts dwindling, they start working towards your home interior. I encountered that before and it turned into a $6,000 nightmare / disaster to get an entire garage wall replaced (two stories!).

I like how you deseeded those black bean pods. I'm sure that you've already taken care of it, but an easy way to get rid of the last of that chaff is to winnow it. Go outside on a moderately breezy day, and toss the beans in the bowl in the air, like a chef does when he is mixing the ingredients in a pan. The wind will catch and blow away the chaff, and the seeds will drop back in to the bowl. It is a very, very, very old way of removing the chaff.

Becky, I watched the little emotional scene you had with the pumpkin twice. I had chronic depression for 25 years and hated life because I just couldn't connect with it. My stubbornness paid off and I got myself out of depression completely in mid-2018 since no meds or therapy worked. I live in NYC and I don't have aspirations of becoming a homesteader but I watch you out of admiration and the love you have for your life. Even now that I've been out of depression for going on 3 years, I'm still struggling with connecting with life although I"m much better and have come a long way. Your love for nature and life is intoxicating but connecting to something as simple as a beautiful homegrown pumpkin the way you did, brought tears into my eyes and made me so hopeful that I don't need a massive revelation to connect and enjoy life, I can just start with simple beauty. You changed something in me today with your beauty, vulnerability and authenticity. Thank you

The look of joy on your face harvesting your pumpkins is what growing your own is all about. Those black tomatoes, I'm guessing are something like indigo rose, but the fact they ripen later is surely a bonus if anything because you are extending your harvest period. If you can continue to get wonderful produce late into the season by choosing certain varieties that can only be a good thing right?

Love watching your enthusiasm for your garden. We live on the prairie of Colorado, but still have a garden every year. A stray chicken showed up one day, then we bought a chicken to keep her company. When I lived on a farm I would get the flower seeds I wanted and label them, then at the end of each week I would take some brown lunch bags and just harvest them all in the same bag didn't matter the colors were mixed and and then I would throw them on the sides of my out building and bring flowers in all year. I miss that farm.

Here in South Australia it is mid-Spring and a busy season in the garden. Last Autumn we stored a huge haul of pumpkins in our cellar and have been eating them for many months. We have about 15kg to go but I make at least three meals a week around them (my kids love the zucchini slice, substituting pumpkin for the zucchini). They store incredibly well, no rotting at all. If anything, the sugars in them have developed and the flavour is even more rich. Nice to have something that preserves itself and saves me the work 😉

For the first time this year I used Milky Spore powder in my beds at the end of the season to "hopefully" inoculate against squash bugs. Milky Spore is mostly used for Japanese Beetles, but I read it can also be used for squash bugs. If you are composting in place, you might consider putting some in your soil as the plants will attract the larvae. What a wonderful Harvest!

Hi Becky, just a quick note for soil health, if you cut the plant instead of ripping it out of the ground you’ll be doing the microorganisms, the soil and yourself a huge solid. The roots will decomp and all of those nutrients will be available for the microorganisms, plus you won’t be disturbing the soil structure so less weeds!

And to be able to wheel your wheelbarrow of goodies right into the house is NUTS to me!!! But if you can draw out your floor plan I would love to create a home plan with some of the attributes of your ‘work space’. You are such an inspiration to me. I see all the things you do in a day and I want to be that same person. I am having weight loss surgery next spring to save my life and give me back my life. I am trapped inside my obesity and I LONG to do all the things you are doing. Right now I rely so much on my husband to help me with the homestead AND he works a full time job. I cannot WAIT for the days when I am doing all the same things you are! Thank you for being such a motivation for me and I love you channel and all you do!

I don't drink soda, but I love seltzer. Sodastream is my best purchase so far. One $15 cartridge makes 60 liters and saves so many bottles and cans.

I recommend planting herbs in your " deck" garden" They do great in pots. Rosemary, Thyme, Oregono, so many more. And the great thing about most herbs is they don't need much care. Walk out on your deck year round and get fresh herbs for your kitchen, wonderful.

How you felt about your pumpkins was how I felt when I grew my one watermelon. 🥰 As a time saver on your seed saving if you’re super busy, save the pods and open them up in winter to get the seeds. There’s no rush, and you can sit around and play with them (I mean remove the seeds) while you’re relaxing.

Your Chickens are having a great time with you in the garden! When doing the tomatoes, trim bottom leaves and plant deeply. Trim off any leaves or branches that touch the ground. After that I only trim the thin sucker vines coming off a strong branch. It puts more energy into the strong branches for blooms and holding fruits. You got so much from your plants! Don't be too hard on yourself as it's a lot of work!

Hey Becky, my husband told me a story of how in Africa the gardener used to make a broth with pumpkin leaves in it. The leaves were stripped of the furyness and treated like silver beet.

I know I commented recently about your joy shining through as you garden-but seeing your excitement about your bounty is contagious. You spark other people to try gardening and give so many helpful tips. I have shared these same joys over the years and feel that is how God physically hugs me . Not to sound off the wall but I really do feel closer to him with plants and therefore creation. love your enthusiasm !!! thank you for sharing

It’s not silly to be a little emotional. Yes it is just a pumpkin but that’s a lot of pride, effort, and hard work that you put into it getting it to where you can hug it. You should be very proud of yourself!

I always enjoy spending some time with you Becky, even if it's just watching a video and pretending that I'm there with you. My heart fills with joy when you get excited and happy when you see what your garden has produced for you. I'm also very happy that you are taking a day for yourself. You deserve it Becky, you work so hard every single day. I hope some day I will get the chance to meet you. You are an incredible woman and I know that you are one of those woman that would be a great friend. Hope you had a great time with your friends and when you go with your In-laws. Take care of yourself, sending you a big hug and see you in your next video. Much love to you. ❤❤❤
