I know this video is years old but the principle is there! TY! I refuse to pay $200 for parts and labor when I KNOW its costs a fraction! I’m a female and I don’t fall for that anymore 👀 I’ve been doing minor work to our vehicles (yes me, loop in hubby when I needs some muscle help 😂). We have changed batteries, tail lights, even accidental scratches (i.e. drove too close to some side road trees 🙈), air filters, visors, and many more! Again, KZfaq is your best friend to saving a lot of $$ with many of the things I mentioned if unsure how to do it. I always look it up to see if I can, if not, then I let the pros handle it 😂

Thanks for your helpful video. We recently had a service on our 2016 RDX. As usual the dealer came up with a long list of items. I didn't think the major ones were worth arguing about. Our experience at the dealer has been generally good. But, the price they wanted for changing the filters seemed ridiculous. Once I did a little research, and found this video, I knew I could take care of it myself. So, I did. It turned out that the filters didn't look too bad at all. But, I changed them anyway. At least I saved the 1.5 to 2.0 hour labor charge. It took me less than 10 minutes, tops.

Thanks for the video. The dealer I bought my wife's RDX from has adopted "profit maximization " software meaning they have shifted to overcharging and underperforming as much as possible. I caught them putting in the wrong oil and charging $120 for these air filters. I haven't taken the car to them in over a year. Changing the oil on these cars is easy also. Don't even have to raise the car. I'm going to go change the air filters right now. Thanks again.

Lmao Not surprised Bethesda will do that. My girlfriend just picked up her RDX from service at Rosenthal and they told her she needs to change her engine filter next service. Told her to go on Amazon and find it and a nurse will install it for free lol

Well, it's done! Amazon Prime got the filters in yesterday and this morning I "tackled" this "project" within 15 minutes. The engine filter was definitely the easiest part and the cabin was some work but with the help of this video that got done too. Saved myself $$!! Thank you so much Tim.

Take 5 oil filter wanted to charge a fortune for these cheap filters. Now I know better! I refused the air filter but they did replace the cabin filter.

I really appreciate the video Tim. I have a 2013 Acura RDX in Northern VA and go to Pohanka usually. I just declined the service for the A123 aside from the transmission fluid exchange and simple oil change because it was just waaaaaaay more than I was prepared to spend on air filters I can do myself. I'm most grateful because I was having a hard time figuring out the Acura/Honda Genuine part numbers for those two filters and you had them on your invoice at the beginning of the video. I just ordered those exact part numbers from an Acura dealer in California (thx Amazon) for a grand total of $45.00. Also, thanks for showing how easy the engine air filter was. I knew I could do the cabin one (btw always do genuine parts, the 3rd party ones out there just don't fit well and it causes really annoying fluttering noises in the cabin), but wasn't sure about the engine one. You should have done it before they ripped you off, (hate Chavychase acura) but thanks for video though! you can order parts acurapartswarehouse (cheapest I've found) and Rosental acura match the price with the site + delivery. hope it helps

My mechanic wanted $100 for an engine air filter. I passed and am doing it myself, since I can. I was actually working at a full service gas station way back in the early 70s when the first car with a rod to keep it up cam in. The owner had to show me the rod. I filled him up, checked the oil and cleaned the windows, and replaced the oil fill cap and slammed his hood shut. Then I saw the look on the owners face! I opened the hood back up, and bent the rod back into a semi-straight position and apologized.

I had taken my RDX in or service last month and they told me the filters needed replacing. Anticipating the ease of changing, I just had them give me the parts and not do the installation. Glad I did - I'm pretty sure they quoted me more than $100 to do it as well.

i went to dealer for regular maintenance for my rdx and they told me to engine air filter replaced and when I asked them about the charge they said $80. I was sitting in the waiting room and watched this youtube video, asked them only for the parts, came home and it took me less than 3 mins.

Hey thanks for putting this up. I checked on ebay and they are selling the air filter & cabin filter combo for $26 with free shipping. God I hate that dealerships over charge for simple things like this. $129 for labor & $69 for parts when a CPA can accomplish the same thing with 1 hand tied behind his back in 7 minutes and 12 seconds with $26 and change? Come on now.

Your owners manual actually will save you thousands if you just decided to read..I myself am a technician at a dealership and if people would just read their booklets and took the time to understand how your car works, theyd be much happier with their experiences at dealerships.

Tim, in an amazing coincidence, I too am a MoCo resident, and also bought my 2015 Acura RDX AWD Tech package from Chevy Chase Acura. Went in for simple A1 service minus the rebalancing (just the rotation) and got the oh BTW call, your filters (cabin and engine) are dirty and wanted to charge me $198 (plus tax). Told him I will pass as I read on Acurazine that it was super easy and cheaper to do it myself. Thank you so much for your video and I can promise that after my free oil changes are over, I will pretty much shop around the other Acura dealers (minus Rosenthal, but that is a separate story...) for service. I did like Pohanka as I went to them for 6 service. In any event, thanks again, and any recommendations you have for Acura service, I would like to take under advisement.

Rockauto.com usually has very reasonably priced air and cabin filters online. Example for 2014 Acura RDX the average price is about $10 for air filter and $7 for cabin filter plus shipping.

Hate to break it to you, but just about every main dealer will hit you with these absurd charges....and guess what? My air filters ALWAYS seem to be dirty when I get a service! Anyway, just replaced mine (2014 RDX) for the princely sum of $25 for both (Amazon). Cheers!
