I love hearing the comments from your videographer! I watch A LOT of painting videos, but I’ve never seen one that has comments from the videographer. She does clarify things to the viewer for you about colors, etc., which is great, but what really strikes me is the way it adds life and liveliness to your video. Good stuff!

This is the first time I have seen a video of yours. I really enjoyed the process as it evolved. My mother was a portrait artist working pastels. In the beginning, she painted in acrylic and oils. I absolutely loved this lesson. I am so hit or miss with pieces I paint, plus I can't seem to get that loose stroke. I fuss and fret over details and then don't always like the results. I look forward to trying this, but I'm sure it will take me much practice to get close to the look, if ever. If I can just get better at it then that will be worth it all. So excited to find you here on KZfaq today!!! I saw you painting live at the Sun City Center Art Club a few years back and painted a number of paintings on my own after that. I have been away from painting for a while and spent a good bit of time doing pastels, then garment sewing in 2020 and lately quilting. That just happened to me! I was painting a little girl playing on the beach and fell in love with her hand scooping sand with a bucket. The proportions were off but boy did I try to make that hand work. I finally took it out.

A coach keeps tellling me how REAL I am. But I dont know where to go or what it means. So I see you with your knowledge and expert tips here. Yes, now I know where to go and be loose. Hey you Painters! There is some real good advice and explanations in this video, like "Don't work in little sections or a little bit at a time". Some of my habits have been getting in my way while I've tried to achieve perfection. Goodness, it takes me weeks sometimes 'to get things perfect' to look the same as what I am copying. I will (try) to stop doing that.

I painted this and am so happy with it. I’m really looking at photos to paint in a different way now! Love your philosophy that big brush strokes take bravery, and paint simple things beautifully.

It’s true, loose painting can be so hard for me because for me it’s about control and failing to look at the painting as a whole. Once I manage this I create something better were I am looking more at forms and values. It can be a really enjoyable process if you just let go.
